- The older Toyota Land Cruiser power locking hubs work great when they are working...however they aren't known for being the most reliable and are hard to fix on the trail. Manual hub locks are much more reliable and easier to fix on the trail. These replacement hub covers are the best option I have found to easily convert electric power hubs to manual.
Tools required:
T-40 Bit
Rachet
12mm socket
Brass drift
Flat head screw driver
Brass dead blow hammer
Snap ring pliers
Small Philips head screw driver
Soldering iron
Wire snips
Electrical tape
Parts required:
manual hub covers: blokirovka.ru/...
The website is in Russian but easily translated by google chrome. Send them an email for ordering.
Hub cover gasket toyota part number(43531-60031)
Hub body gasket toyota part number(43422-60040)
Grey Gasket maker
2x 50 ohm resistors: www.amazon.com...
UPDATE: unless your hub lights are flashing you dont need to wire in resistors. Id go ahead and do it anyway just to prevent trouble later on. Also its not nessisary to remove the hub body. Just remove the cover pull the motor and cut the wires off. Then replace with new manual cover.
I try to solder resistor 50ohm10w, but hub lights still flashing.. any tips?
UPDATE:
the hubs are already installed and i liked the quality of the material, i think it is good considering the price. I changed the pawls that came with it and instaled the original ones, i noticed the quality of the original ones was way better. since they are the only part that suffers stress, i think the covers should last as much as the hubs will. This fix came in a very low budget and turned out amazing. Thank you for the video 😃
Glad i could help man. This is the ultimate fix for hub problems on this vehicle and is very budget friendly
Brilliant video, need more people like you recording this stuff 💪
Thanks for the video, mine broken as well, need to swap with manual hub lock
Meaning to say that old electric hub lock still can use, only change the cap only, is it right.. Thanks sir
Very useful video. Easiest way of converting to manual.Great effort bro. I also own 1995 KZJ78 1kz. But I can't find manual cover here in Pakistan. Can you send me the manual cover and the gasket. I will pay the price. Thanks and Best regards
Hello there. Still waiting for the arrival of the hubs covers. Meanwhile, as preventitive maintenance i didassembled the wheel hub, in order to substitute the internal grease and provide some quality lubrication for the bearings. While disassembling everything i stumbled upon a sad discovery. My studs where breaking because the locking nut, wich comes before that circular piece in which the eletrical hubs make contact via the copper brushes, was not properly tightened. That led to a small slack. So if anyone is having the same problem, there you go, easily fixable 😜
Donde lo encurntro
Great tutorial.
Thank you for the step by step guide! I am thinking of doing this to my ‘94 KZJ78. I noticed on the parts list you out down the gray FIP gasket. What did you use this on?
I use it on the hub gaskets to make them more water tight
Is it same procedure on the 1991 Prado 2tle
Yes
Can I ask what's the real function of the "cover bolt" 🤔
@oscarenriquecoronadoperaza3959 to hold the cover onto the hub body. But it's also used to pull on the drove shaft so you can expose the snap ring groove when reinstalling.
Svp référence bouchan manuel
i order the hub to Ru.. but no feed back..please help
I sell the same set. Message me on Instagram @adventurerigcompany
Hi sir.. Do we need to press the hub lock button to activate the tranfer case while using 4x4 mode? Thanks
Yes you still need to hit the hub lock button. This tells the 4X4 computer its ok to enage the transfer case when you hit the H4 button. Its a good reminder to undo your hubs once your off the trail too.
@@Adventure_Rig thanks for your quick response, one more question can i just swap the kzj78 lock nut, washer to old version 54mm lock nut and washer
@@nasleathercare4827 i would think so but i personally prefer the one it comes with. You dont need to get a new lock washer each time. Just reinstall the set screws. I think its a more sturdy design.
@@Adventure_Rig ok noted, mine was broken, previous workshop didn't torque it correctly, now is the time for me to diy myself, thanks 🙏 sir have great day
amazing. i am doing this to my eletrical hubs. can you tell if in the meantime the part is working ok?
Everything has been working well
@@Adventure_Rig i want to ask you something else. Do you have problems with broken studs? I fotted avm hubs and the avm bolts break, so i fitted the original toyota studs (that came with the eletrical hubs) and they broke too. Everything was installed correctly. Do you know anything that can cause this problem? I am getting rid of the avm hubs and installing the oroginal ones the way you did, bue i am comserned that something else may be causong the studs to break
@@afonsonobrega4337 havent broken any studs. That is one advantage of this as the factory hubs are really strong.
@@Adventure_Rig i think the big diference is that the cover bolts are screwed to the wheel hub, not the hub body(like the avm hubs). That means they are bolted in 10 points, instead of 6. Lets see, i have ordered the hub covers and i am installing them, maybe some months from now i demount everything and post the resulta here, so people with the same problem can be sure it works
@@afonsonobrega4337 i think once your swap the only weak point will be the clutch pawl itself. Id recommend using the factory toyota one
where did you get the manual covers from ?

Why do you replace manual hub?is there any problem?
The electronic hubs are not as reliable and are known for letting you down when you need them. The are 2 small carbon brushes that wear out over time and there is no way easy to fix it on the trail if it happens to fail when your out there. The ehubs work great...when they work. The manual hubs always work
