Firefighters have had paramedic training, so they can help in cases of medical emergencies. So if a fire engine is closer to the scene, dispatchers will send them as well. I don't think fire engines can take people to the hospital though, but they can provide first aid to a patient until an ambulance can get to the scene

I’m really interested to know why fire and ambulances turn up in the states, is there a reason guys as we don’t do that here so I’m unsure?
