Yeah but people spend almost $2000 a month on rent think of that every month for a year if you slowly put away money you could totally buy this bus and it would be worth it’s weight in gold.
Yeah the whole time im watching this I'm wondering why he didn't do insulation.. I mean living in a hot area it's not necessary but it does help out alot and when he decides so go to a different environment he is going to notice
These buses are insulated poorly. And the roof should have been insulated as well. All that metal is gonna sweat horribly once someone starts living in it. Moisture is gonna cause mold, even in the desert.
Suggestion for the guys trying it: Rust is the worst enemy of this type of vehicles. Always check the floor, walls and roof. Look for leaks or damage. Check the structure that holds the metal sheets and try to fix your interior structure to the steel structure (instead of the metal sheets). Unfortunately this may mean removing the floor and part of the walls. I recommend it and also look for mold. The old insulation might have some of that also. I'm not totally sold on screwing the wood beams to the metal sheet. I would prefer to create brackets and weld those to the structure, paint everything and the bolt the wood beams to the bracket. Always put a circuit/fuse box if you are mixing big metal boxes, water and electricity. You will be driving and things might break or get loose damaging the installation. You might suffer a traffic accident and a bus fire is no joke. Finally, consider that a big metal box will change dimensions with the temperature (interior and exterior). You might need to consider this in order to avoid warping or breaking wood. That also plays an important factor on reducing the noise while driving. On the mechanical side, check suspension, axel, brakes condition and lubrication on all those points. Consult a diesel mechanic and hear their ideas about the project. You even might take advantage on the original electric installation, or neumatic lines included on the truck.
I've tried to be as positive and constructive as possible, but the work that is shown on the video is a little disappointing and can be dangerous if the guys following the channel try it without a correct planning and guidance. I know that the channel is for DIYers, (damn, even my self I have been optimistically ignorant of some of the challenges I faced in my life, but I always tried to reduce the risk, at least the risk to injury others). Until today, the risk of getting hurt, sick or to injure someone else with the projects was really low. This build takes the risk to another level (I know, you have your disclaimer) I'm not comfortable on how it's presented. As your pal Four Eyes has said on his videos, designing and planning how tackle the problems and needs is the trickiest part of a build. Everybody can use a tool. Planning should have taken a bigger part of the video. Sorry for the text wall. Keep the good work, but more importantly, keep yourself safe and healthy (and help to keep the followers safe too).
Seems like in these skoolie type vids ... not seeing much in the way about .... the "mechanical" aka engine and drive train information. Seems to me ... that spending a few grand having the engine gone over and what ever.
If I can add think about ways to minimize weight in your build, remember your going to be hauling all this around wherever you go. Your building with the mentality of a home reno, way too many studs thinner skins, I build two of these and have learned to build thin solid panels with 3/4" furring strips and 1/4" skins. Watch a video on how they build rv's cabinets. Added solid foam in exterior walls and in walls for extra rigidity. In my mind just saying your not an electrician or plumber doesn't excuse doing bad work, the electrical dangers are just as real in a vehicle as they are in a home. As for plumbing this is where you really need to be positive of what your doing vibrations/potholes will really take a toll on these components, small leak can cause MAJOR problems down the road. Mold wood rot .... Please leave areas like this removable for servicing. Good luck with the build and please do some more research on planning and prep, IE lighting, switches, speaker wiring, water, heat/ac ventilation, exhaust fan....... before putting in the "pretty".
Before you get too deep into this project, I humbly suggest using Dow Corning Foamular (or similar) insulation board inside the gaps in the wall. It's easy to cut with hand tools and easy to apply with liquid nails adhesive. If you care about the gaps, you can fill them in with a few cans of Great Stuff spray foam insulation. Besides making the interior more comfortable, it will pay for itself by reducing the need to burn diesel to run the air conditioner.

Before i started the video i was going to make a smart ASS comment saying" I wonder if he left the sticker on the bus like he does sometimes on the sheets of plywood. I started laughing when he said he is leaving the stickers and painting over them.
quick tip for making templates is taking a 4x8 sheet of cardboard and cutting it into 2" strips and making your border as well adding supports so it doesn't fall apart when you pull it down. hot glue is used to attach the pieces together and small dabs can be used to keep the template up while it's being made. I did granite/marble work for several years and its the fastest way I've found aside from a laser system and a heck of alot cheaper.

First I was worried about the fact that he didn't change any window. I thought of all the nergy loss when heating or cooling the bus. But then I discovered that he didn't even insolate the floor or walls. This bus is gonna be a pain in the arse to cool or heat.
and the thickness of his walls, couldve taken a lesson from trailers and RV's... their walls are super thin, to cut down on weight, for obvious reasons.
I like how you made the templates of the curves and all so you could make the real wall coverings, that was smart, I'm gonna have to do that this time around... Building in a bus is hard and easy depending how you look at it.
I'll be honest the original bus wasn't that bad and a lot of those original materials could have been reused or sold to someone else building a similar project. I'm glad you showed what happens when you remove the lines because most people don't realize that cutting off the source does not remove the fluid already present in the lines. I think this is going to be a really good build and I will finish watching the video. This is by first the first RV transformation that I watched the whole video! You are a transformation Genius!!

Wow! First, a home theatre and now a tiny home. You've come a long way since those early coffee table builds.👍 Congrats and good luck on this project. I plan on staying tuned. Also, will we see HomemadeModern dropping by to lend a hand?
I can’t take this seriously as a home or even a place to stay in parked for any extended period without any added insulation. I can see leaving the single pane windows due to cost, but not adding insulation...no.
Shaun Jones Sr Exactly. Floors, walls and ceiling should be insulated. Spray foam (recommended) or reflective backed foam board. The amount of power required to cool this thing would be drastically lower. If you wanted to use roof mounted solar to cool, forget it without proper insulation.
Hey, dope bus man. Next time it might be easier to just "toe nail" your screws into the framing studs instead of using those small brackets and screws; would probably save time and money?
@@ModernBuilds Yeah, you just start the screw about 11/4-11/2 away from the end of the perpendicular board at a 45 degree angle and drive it home. I find it much easier than toe nailing nails.

Finally a guy who doesn’t take at least a year to finish something unlike people on TikTok
Congratulations man! Project looked insane. Is it just me, or did I miss the make model of this school bus?
Yes i also want to know the same
I really enjoy this series. Third time watching.
😂😂😂😂😂😂 love them awesome poses. The supernova team!! 😍😍😍😍😍. Blessings in all you do ✝️✝️✝️✝️✝️
As soon as he said “my name is Mike Montgomery” I immediately thought of PLL (Pretty Little Liars) 😂
I thought of the How to undo with mike montgomery
bro i swear you sound exactly like that kid on the bus from the polar express who talked a lot lmao
Looks like him to o 😂
This guy i don’t want to stay inside
Him:
lEtS buiLd iNsIdE
A look at the paint coat 🧥 , reminds me of PPE Kit in this Covid Era.
Best regards from New Delhi, India🇮🇳
i didnt know jhonny bravo has a passion for campers, cool bro
him: "its clean, freash"
meanwhile There’s some tape on the floor 😂
Great start to a series! Also, those boots are awesome. They look like they really hold up in a work environment. What brand are they?
"DIY"
Yeah I just happen to have a spare bus around.
Don't be a Debbie Downer
Lol
Diy is just do it yourself, not do it for 5 bucks. He did everything himself, so the title is accurate
Well you don’t have to do it with a buss you could do it with a buss or a buss lol
Still a DIY
Magic School Bus ! Suddenly remember this classic cartoon.... 😊👍
He makes it look so easy
I actually graduated from El Reno and I thought this was just an ultra targeted ad😂😂
But I’ve been in that bus for sure.
you’re not hung to insulate? i would def recommend esp given that it’s in joshua tree
It's already insulated...he mentioned this.
Joshua Tree doesn't get to hot
@@oslogutt80 i read this comment *right* before he said this at 22:16
Wow! First, a home theatre and now a tiny home. You've come a long way since those early coffee table builds.👍 Congrats and good luck on this project. I plan on staying tuned. Also, will we see HomemadeModern dropping by to lend a hand?
Thanks for sticking around so long!! I hope so 😜
This camera quality is amazing!!
I like how people magically became mechanics and interior designers before watching this video
me too
almost looked like you were gonna do some “cooking” in the RV
I think that plywood template was so clever. I never would’ve thought to do that
You are making it soooo easy step by step. Definitely more inspired of moving forward and go purchase my school bus. Great job!
How did you do?
5:10-Me and my homies when we wear matching outfits to school.
Lmfao so true
I can’t take this seriously as a home or even a place to stay in parked for any extended period without any added insulation. I can see leaving the single pane windows due to cost, but not adding insulation...no.
Chris Howard floor removal. What under the floor? 🤷🏻♂️
@@cghoward70 they do all those things in bus builds, he'll do it too. dont just assume he's not gonna do that absolute basics
Badusername2000 He very clearly said he wouldn’t be adding any insulation to the bus. Did you watch the video?
@@shadypalmtree2989 no i did not, lol, id assume he'd have common sense
I like that you share information on what you show. Most youtube videos are can well be bs because they dont do that.
Very special bus good job
"Bring your house to work day"
Hey, dope bus man. Next time it might be easier to just "toe nail" your screws into the framing studs instead of using those small brackets and screws; would probably save time and money?
not a bad idea!! can you toe nail with screws?
@@ModernBuilds Yeah, you just start the screw about 11/4-11/2 away from the end of the perpendicular board at a 45 degree angle and drive it home. I find it much easier than toe nailing nails.
Being honest usually with videos like this i get bored but i enjoyed this
That posing sequence was awesome
Cut a lot of corners.
Best Skoolie Shower build that I've seen so far!
he’s just sealing all the imperfections that can be harmful rather than putting the effort into getting rid of them 😬
I felt like everthing was fine until he painted over the stickers lol
i spent the last 23 minutes 47 seconds shaking my head.. this is a great video for... someone? But i would not recommend doing anything shown in this video
Chad Gunter couldn’t relate to this anymore. You said it best
But you could do it if you want. You can’t tell me what to do🙂
I agree with cyan
Usually also not advised to share a video of you violating EPA rules by spilling coolant all over the place.
I think I know what you mean - it's a lot of 'not really there'
Gracias por compartir con nosotros sus conocimientos en el mundo del camping. Abrazos y éxito!!
