Hi. I am trying to learn and am using v0.19.3 on Windows. I have been trying to add some pipes to the bottom sides of a box like you show in this video but have failed every thing I have tried. If you were to add 3 tubes or pipes with angles to the bottom of one side of a box similar to this, how would you do it? What workbench would you use for the hollow tubing and how would you attach them to the box so if you filled it with liquid it would run out or drain from the tubes? Thanks in advance.
Hi Dave, Sorry about the tardy response. Thanks for your question. I'm not entirely sure that I understand what you're trying to achieve, but it seems to me that you are trying to create pipes that are fused to box so that it is a single piece. Is that correct? If so, this is what I'd do using the Part Design workbench (but there might also be a better way). I'd create the box as before, then I'd create three new bodies containing cylinders representing the pipes. The cylinders need to be solid at this stage. Then I'd position and orient the cylinders in the direction that I want them pointing. Once that's done, I'd make a clone of each cylinder then hide the clones. Now I'd make the box the active body and use the Boolean Operation tool to cut the three cylinders from the box. This should leave three holes the diameter of the cylinder in the box. Remember that the cylinders need to be solid to perform this operation because cutting with a pipe will create multiple bodies which is not supported by the Part Design workbench. Now this is where the clones come in. Hide the box, and activate each of the clones. Use the Hole Tool to drill a hole the length of each clone. This won't effect the original cylinder so we're not going to break the box. You can now activate the box and use the Boolean Operation tool to fuse the box and the three pipes into a single body. I had short lengths of pipe inside the box due to the way that I placed my pipes prior to fusing them to the box. I used a Subtractive Box (one per length) to remove it leaving a smooth interior. I hope this helps.
Is there a book for free cad I know there are different versions but is there a book on the help page (the community help page) also can you do a video on the help page and how to use it.
Thanks for your feedback Kyle. TBH I've never looked to see if there is a book so I don't know. I haven't thought about doing a video on the help page but its not beyond the realms of possibility.
Thanks for sharing this Laurie. I haven't read it other than to check which version it was written for. It was written with 0.16 in mind so may not be so applicable now but that doesn't mean that it's not worth reading.
There are several books available on Amazon although they are quickly going out of date. Nevertheless they provide basic principles and grounding. Some use sketching on faces rather than planes which, until recently, have sometimes led to errors as a result of the topological naming problem. The linkstage3 branch from Realthunder promises to eliminate this if it is amalgamated into the 0.20 release and many tutors are beginning to hang their peg on that particular hook.
I tend to agree Alex but in fairness to the developer it is a work in progress so we should expect that some things don't work. I used to be a developer back in the day and found that it was better to hide things that weren't implemented so that it didn't confuse the user. I would have preferred that it be done that way here but others have different preferences to me :)
Another great video Geoff!
Thanks for your kind words Paul
Great explanatory and exploratory video! Thank you for recording it.
Thanks for your kind words. I'm glad that you liked it.

Nice tool but also needs some improvement.
