In my opinion she's one of a kind. Love her introspections and thoughts on the episode, she's not only reacting but also adding a lot awesome thoughts and opinions on it. Bad thing is we have to wait every week, when you have a great collection to enjoy from now on 😅
@@feulps Have to admit, it's rare for a reactor to pick up on things. Buffy pushing people away, Spike's weird vamp-empathy, Anya... just being Anya. It's great and I'm enjoying it a lot.
8:21 “I did t realize there even was an issue between Willow and Anya” It blows my mind every time a reactor is surprised by this. Willow has been making snide and rude comments about Anya the entire time Xander has been in a relationship with her, but no one ever notices the constant passive-aggressiveness. They just talk about how Anya isn’t normal enough.
@@Zso-VIIII kind of wonder if we did too the first time around. Hindsight is 20/20 and we know the character arcs, so we might see more of those flaws that might turn out to be bigger flaws. I see way more flaws in Willow after having almost 30 years to sit with this character. Granted, I also find Xander incredibly difficult on rewatches, a lot of his behaviour fit in in the 90s but aged terribly.
This is because "reactors" talk over everything. So something that isn't right at the forefront of the plotlines, even something continuing like Anya and Willow's friction, just gets missed by talking about other stuff.
Thank you! Especially since Anya is clearly coded as being on the autism spectrum, whereas Willow is seemingly neurotypical. This is by far the worst Willow episode for me to date. She's awful (and I love Willow so much).
I really like what we get of this, but I kind of wish they had done it more often. I always loved the scenes where Buffy and Tara had conversations about things. Tara was always so sweet and less likely to take things the wrong way and Buffy seemed genuinely appreciative and comfortable.
So much. When all is said and done I think Tara may have been one of the greatest friends to Buffy, in some ways even more than the main Scoobies, just with how she comes in clutch with the most incredible emotional support at times when it really matters.
This was the first episode of Buffy I saw, on late night broadcast TV a few years after the first run. I was fascinated first by the satirical adult references in the dialog. Abraham Benrubi who I recognised from _ER_ , played this ridiculous troll saying things like: "Where can I find some plump juicy babies to eat?" and "Anya, you are as aggravating and emasculating as when we were going out." I slowly realized that instead of an episodic horror show, the horror elements were there to dramatize a continuing story arc. I had watched a lot of supernatural shows, but I had never seen anything like this.
a lot of people hate on this episode but I love it. I appreciate when the show can be fun while also building on the characters and their relationships with each other.
I do enjoy the fact Dawn is never acted in any other way than a kid teen sister. Her end scene reaction was just the same as overhearing adults discussing she was adopted. Buffy 's transference of her heartbreak onto Xander/Anya's romance is quite comedic and probably deliberate to avoid a drawn out heartbreak like Angel.
A lot of people sleep on this ep but it’s one of my faves! I know the Anya / Willow rivalry feels like it came from nowhere at first, but on rewatches you can see it’s been there all along. And their motivations are completely legit and understandable. Great ep :)
I enjoy this one, but I overlook it, too. It was a testament to how well structured this year was to have a breather at this point, given the last four episodes or so had become so heavy and involved. Even in doing so, they still managed to explore the dynamics within the group a little bit with odd pairings, which felt sort of refreshing. Favorite scene of the episode is probably the conversation between Dawn and Buffy in her room.
I'm honestly not sure how Willow's motivations are understandable. She just seems petty and narrow-minded, especially since Anya is (definitely at this point) being coded as neurodivergent. So Willow's "learn the rules" comments are objectively awful. I say this as someone who adores Willow, but this episode is one of the most difficult to watch for her.

I hate how the scoobies treat Anya. I know it’s meant to be leveraged for comedy, but it always feel so mean spirited
This episode revolves around Anya and Willow's issues thematiclly tying into Buffy's romance issues. I don't mind Buffy's post-romance struggles, but I struggle watching Willow act like she has any kind of valid point. Willow wasn't off, different or OOC. She dislikes Anya and that's been a fact since Anya's first episode. Willow needs to respect Anya is Xander's girlfriend. And Xander needed to say something rather than leave them to fight it out. The problem was it didn't excuse anything Willow did in the same way Riley's issue in saying Buffy didn't love him wasn't an excuse for the bitehouse. The issues of Anya and Willow have been building in the same way Riley's and Buffy's romance issues were (probably another reason Buffy identifies). Xander's one to talk when it comes to Buffy's romance issues. How was Anya introduced into the series? Willow even tries to deny the fact that she and Xander cheated, before realizing she can't. Another issue I have against her in this episode. Jerry from _ER_ as Olaf the troll. Willow wishing for money after Buffy shows up because she had just wished Buffy was there is one of the only times in this episode I can identify with her character.
Considering that Uncle Enyos explained that vengeance is a living thing and vengeance curses require suffering to be sustained, this episode leaves one big question unanswered: If Olaf experiences a moment of perfect happiness in the Land of the Trolls, will he turn back into a human or die of old age?
Sarah Michelle Gellar was at her zenith during this period. Between Buffy and also the movies she was in. Especially 'Cruel Intentions', which you did on this channel.
Might be giving the show too much credit and reading too much into it, but Buffy might be letting herself be more openly emotional for a bit now that Joyce is on the mend and she's not feeling all that impending pressure. Like, a relief response or something. Also, I don't think Willow ever really warmed up to Anya since the whole doppelgangland thing lol.
I freely confess, I was pretty resentful of Tara at first. I thought Oz and Will were cute together, hated that he left, and Tara seemed to be kind of a wet lettuce in comparison to the laconic, chill guy in a cool band. But S5 is where it all turned around, she grew into herself and her budding friendship with Buffy became one of my favourite things in the show. Them together in this ep and later on in a few episodes down the line, Tara is just a real one. And she's great in S6, a beacon of sanity and decency. As the show came to its end, Will and Xander had dropped way down the list of characters I cared about but Tara? She was up there with Buffy, Giles, and Dawn for me, Tara is just lovely.
I do like season 5 but I have always seen this one, among a few others, as just sort of filler episodes that I can skip past. I do always enjoy your reviews though! They are full of so many authentic emotional moments.
Hmm. I'd prefer she do ep. 16 solo, as I imagine she'll have a LOT to say about it. Maybe she could do them a day apart, though, or release them on the same day but as separate videos?
I think Triangle was another interesting, but weaker episode in S5, with the the tension between Anya and Willow coming to a head, with Willow, even she was with Oz and is now with Tara, still showing her latent jealousy over Xander having a relationship with Anya. We also see her increased use of dangerous magics, which is now just at the beginning of getting out of control, with Willow unleashing the aggressive Troll Olaf, who knew Anya in the past. We also see Spike's obsession with Buffy also beginning to get out of control too. When Dawn overhears Joyce, Giles and Buffy talking at the end it really sets up the latter part of the Season. S5 has so many great episodes that it seems crazy to call this one weak, but it is compared to others in the Season which are exceptional. Again a massive amount of foreshadowing in this episode.
It has nothing to do with Jealousy. Willow is worried that the ex-demon (who chose to willingly become a demon) that spent 1,000 years murdering men in the most horrific ways imaginable, and not only isn't remorseful over any of it but literally opens this episode joking about how even she thinks some of said men may not have deserved it, might hurt Xander who was her only friend for most of her life. Willow is basically the only person in the cast that even acknowledges Anya is a mass murderer and the most she does is make the occasional snippy jab about it. And, spoiler alert, Willow was right. First thing Anya does when they have a falling out is try to manipulate Xanders friends and loved ones, including the traumatized teen that just already lost family, into wishing a grisly death on Xander so Anya can murder him to make herself feel better.

I decided to start with 6x10 and keeping this for last.Who knows, knows.😉 02:23 - 02:48 What's amazing about this joke is the double-turn. 1st they fool you into believe that Buffy has turned into a nun, then you see she's not...but then she _actually_ says she wants to!!😄💛And you're like:"WTF,girl, seriously?!?😅" I admit the Spike chocolate scene was legitimately funny.😄🤍 *Willow:* 06:54 *You,Me&Anya:* 06:55 (I didn't grow up reading"The Cat in the Hat"..it's not a thing here in Italy.) 07:32 - 07:34 *Yes* I love this episode!!😊 07:48 - 07:49 "Protect me,Tara!"💙 *Me,always:* 10:44 - 10:46 / 12:28 - 12:30 "I wish I had 1000000 $!" There is no joy greater than discovering more Buffy reactions but the icing on the cake is that you're at season 5 already.
