Great philosophy, it is actually in the end the reason why analog is looked for, the imperfection. Miss you farker

I personally have never really needed perfect 8 octave tracking. Might be useful for a jazz pianist, but slight overkill for a bassline.

I vacillate bw precision oscillators and function gens as vco's. Now, after using a DUSG and a Falistri as such for a long time, I'll return to a Rossum Trident. If it turns out to be sterile, then I'll add some modulation or effects, like ring mod and distortion, or audio fm in the filter to turn it into something richer, more natural - just what you talked about. But the reason I'm leaning toward this side is that this sound can be dirtied to taste and keeping the perceived harmonic relations, whereas this doesn't work the other way round.

It's a good point considering that approach and the module in question, super module :) the one I refer to as too "clean" is not as dense or packed as the Trident because that one offers a lot whole new level of sound and/or modulation, of course I want it all as well :D having both options and more is great, then we enter the paradox of play ability and size, but that's whole new discussion, cheers!

I bought a bunch of used vcos and never cared if they are perfectly tracking. needless to say i did measure them and yea they track like crap. but the whole point of my rack is to surprise me. the completely wack out of tune sound is what makes it the opposite of the "perfect" digital signals i contrast with in my daw.
