I think the whole band still misses him
Especially Malvin...he visits his grave whenever he's down for Christmas and the band still pays tribute to this great man prior to every show. I was so glad to hear that. He is still so dearly missed.

mad dog - Agreed, also, in my opinion, when I see them perform, there just isn't that connection between Phil and Viv that Phil had with Steve and while they will always be my favourite, I will miss seeing that and I'm sure, to some degree, Phil must as well.

So for all the people in the inside circle who have stated that Steve didn't even want to get sober... well you heard Phil's words, Steve had told Phil a lot of times "I really want to stop doing this, it's awful." There's the proof, Steve DID want to stop drinking.

What's great about Phil is that he credits all those around him that helped the band write songs and get to where they are. No ego.

"Girls, Girls, Girls" That is your favorite group from the best decade in the history of metal music in the 1980's? And Dr. Feelgood crap? Vince you can't even understand or hear WTF he is singing? You need to back to the 1970s to find really great heavy metal bands that stand the test of time. Not the Crue. I do like Def Leppard (with Clark) but Guys that go to concerts to listen to this bubble gum metal makes me wonder about them. Do you buy the "Merch" too?

Awesome interview!! Def Leppard is my absolute favorite and Phil is awesome. But I also love Motley, so cool to hear these two rockstars talk and share experiences. Would love to see more of the guys from Def Leppard on the show! Or from any of the other 80s rock bands. Will definitely keep an eye on this channel.

Anyway, aside from Phil being one hell of a guitarist and seemingly really nice person, I can't think of any other musician, his age, that still plays without a shirt...dude is freaking ripped. Even Sting doesn't play shirtless anymore (I think). I can only hope to look as good as Phil when I'm that old.

Great show Nikki, I grew up listening to you guys alot if 80s rock bands, and to hear you guys chat about the old times is fantastic. Love Def Leppard and crue.
Def Leppard was a band that matured before many of their contemporaries. I look at other bands from this time and they rag on the producers of their biggest albums when Def considered Mutt a member and did what was best for the band. They are friends that support each other and it shows.

Her first concert was Def Leppard in OKC? I saw Hysteria in OKC when I was 14. A horse racing track.
Europe opened and their first song was Final Countdown and their last song was Final Countdown. I always remembered they played it twice.

Great stuff Nikki, and Phil! As a former working musician myself, I love the analysis of the craft. Always have. I often think back to my earliest band days, in one particular band with a guitarist you may have seen or met (Steve Schuffert - The Godz, Glenn Burtnick...), I was 17, he was 16, and whenever we went to see a national act at a local 1500 seater, it was like going to school. We'd sit in the balcony front row just studying what they were doing. Forget enjoying the show. For us it was all, "Did you see how they did this, that or the other?"
Loving this channel Nikki. Kudos to you and the team for putting this together. It's great to hear the stories from our favourite bands growing up. Wish this had've been available for you guys back in the day!

Nikki I hate to tell you this, but drugs have been mainstream even when I was growing up with you guys. 60's were all about drugs. so were the 70's and 80's. I was a lucky one that never touched heroin or meth thank god. But every other drug out there from like age 11 I was doing. Started with cigarettes, then pot, then drinking and doing acid each week by age 13. I only did that for about maybe a year. Got old after a while. But I was also doing Ludes, Valium and what ever else I could get my hands on. I have even done Cocaine. Shit I should be dead by now and this was all back in 1979 or 80 when I started. I seen you guys at the US Festival in CA and we were fucked up! Great times and glad I survived them. Sadly many others don't. I was not a rock star like you, but I lived the life of one in other ways. haha! But we all choose our own paths in life, and even as a child I knew they were bad. Good thing is I don;t touch drugs anymore either. I don't drink smoke or anything. We either grow up and out of them, or die from them. Just so you younger kids know. Its fun for while, but after a while the fun is gone and the dependency has you by the BLEEP! Then comes the choice, stop and live, or continue and die. Pot and cigarettes were the last things I stopped, and it nearly destroyed my lungs. It took me two years for them to get better. Now I'm 50 and hopefully will not get cancer from it all. Knock on wood. All in all if I do? I have been a lucky one and have the life of 10 men. But I would change to not doing the drugs and alcohol if I could do it all over again. I would have remember a lot more of the concerts I went to every week. haha!
Omg Nikki sixx I so luv the things u are doing with sobriety it's awesome luv your books and videos on addiction and luv the way u explain and face it !!! Which is awesome I'm in sobriety and still try to preach r show my sobriety to my lil bro and sisters they haven't grasped it uet but still show them the steps in trying to become sober wish they are readers but are not so I try ...luv your books which I got !!! And try to spread the word luv your work but don't work so hard I try different things to change my lifestyle which I have vowed to never b the addict that I use to b !!!!! Plenty of props for u never got to that hard shit ....only coke lol still hard but u did harder luv u and appreciate the word u give out !!!! KEEP Up the Good Work!!! Luv u lots continue doing and spreading the word!!!🤛🤛👍👍👍👍

Phil said how if you fall off rehab you crumble. I don't remember the exact words he said. But I recently fell in my own counseling work. It was helpful BC I feel like its less my fault. It is so hard to be perfect. It was very helpful hearing the rest too. So sorry about Steve. I love Def Leopard. One of my friends introduced me and the songs stretched my energy. It was healing.
I was hoping they were going to jam, I love the riff in Wasted. One of my faves, plus fun song to sing. Joe's voice was one of the hardest for me to emulate for a long time. Singing is like playing except you're the instrument. Fun to get to a point where it's like having all the stuff you can do with a guitar and twist it around. Anyway, ... Great interview and if anyone reading and hasn't seen the movie about Def Leppard it is really good.
Great interview. Pity as Nikki was the primary song writer for his band he never asked about the primary song writer for Phil's band. Steven Maynard 'the Riffmaster' Clark. All he asked is "what kind of a 'person' was Steve". "Deeper" not. Opportunity missed Sixx. That pisses me off big time, not good enough to not pay homage to a bands main engine, but it was a solid interview. Mutt's influence was MASSIVE, no issue but Steve was the member that penned 90 per cent of their songs lyrically and constructed some of the most intricate melodies, riffs, hooks and bends in history. Mutt pulled, mined the gold Steve had.

One of the best concerts I've ever attended was a few years ago at the Glasgow SECC where the tickets were £45 and for that price was the no brainer triple bill of Steel Panther, Motley Crue and Def Leppard. I actually bought the tickets just to see Steel Panther who were amazing but I loved the "Stargate" drumkit the Crue were packing. By the time Def Leppard came on though, I was comfortably blootered and fell asleep halfway through their set. LOL

Great stuff!!! Two musical devoties with a different approach to the same course. Actually my First concert was Deep Purple, but with Joe Lynn Taylor on vox. Had the same urge to get up front as Phil, and even got to touch Richies guitar as he threw it into the audience. Almost unschrewed the whammy bar :) I'm basically a functioning alchohollic, meaning I open a bottle of wine, when my kids are put to bed and asleep. It's compulsive behavior. And.. inspitational hearing you guys adressing the issue. In my case, I know- and have identified the problem, however the final dession to quit drinking, is hard. I guess, it's all about patterns and habbits. Therefore I I'm an alchohollic, since I can"t resist the urge to pop the bottle. The hard part is to not buy the wine and saying no at social gatherings. Just like when quitting smoking. Nevertheless... Respect to you guys body of work and your "geek/nerd" approach to music. And for speaking about your expiriences with stopping drinking and other drugs😎
As a drunk who would drink til I'm drunk is envious that you can drink "a bottle" of wine as I cant do that, so I've had to completely give it up!
