  • Hello and welcome. Not long ago I noticed that I had not reviewed the ‪@SmithAndWessonInc‬ M&P Shield Plus. So I purchased one. In today's video we take a first look and towards the end I compare it to my daily carry. Will it become my new carry gun? Let's take a look.

I bought my shield plus as soon as they hit the market. It has been my carry gun for about 3 years now. My shield's trigger has a smooth take up (no grinding sound), light wall, crisp break- easily under 4 pounds. I was at range recently, a man had a brand new shield plus and talking about how awful the trigger was. The optic screws holding the cover plate on were stripped from the factory and the trigger was bad. Heavy, gritty, and the reset was so long. I don't know what happened to S&W in over the past few years, but I think they forgot how to make a good pistol. QC seems to be all over the place.

The 4” is the best IMO. So slimline yet still boasting a full 4” barrel. Best of the Micro compacts certainly. I run the 40 S&W 4” 2.0 non Plus with a 4.25” extended and ported 357 Sig barrel and it’s so sweet. So much power out of an ultra slim concealable setup. With 125gr Underwood ammo I’m netting over 600 ft/lbs of energy. With a Magguts spring it’s only a 8+1 but I wouldn’t give it up for anything for this type of application. I like the rubber sleeve on the grip for a more comfortable grip and bonus recoil absorption. It’s ridiculously accurate. I have the optic ready Performance Center version. What an amazing setup.

So, I love the Shields in general... I'm not a 9 mm guy, but I did carry a Shield Plus for a while, until I got my Shield 45. I now alternate the M&P 45 & 40 versions as EDC.
I found the Shield Plus to be the "softest" shooting of the micro 9's. IMHO, it has less felt recoil than even the X-macro and Hellcat Pro. I liked the feel of the G43x/48 but found I was much more accurate with the Shield Plus.
My youngest daughter now carries my old Shield Plus, because she didn't like how snappy her Ruger EC9 was, and my 9 mm carry alternates between FN Reflex and Hellcat Pro. I tried to love the 365 X-macro, but I just don't like striker fired SIGs, with the exception of the M17 and M18, and the extreme high end Legions.
So, after a long-winded, distracted treastice of inconsequential information I'll wrap up with agreeing with you about choosing the one you shoot best... Don't choose a brand because "everyone says it's the best"... Choose the firearm that you personally can shoot the best, and gives you the best chance of surviving a life and death encounter.

Also have a 9mm Shield with Trigger upgrade, New Adjustable Sites. and a 3 5/8 inch Faxon Barrel. Also a Hogue Grip. I bought the Shield a month before buying a Shield Plus. I'm not quite 100 percent sold yet on the aftermarket magazines from Shield Arms and PSA. Some people are still apparently having a few issues with either brand. The Shield Arms brand magazines are now in their THIRD design variation. I believe that PSA has two different types for the Glock. I'd really like to get a couple of one or both brands. But, they're a little expensive. They need to be super reliable, before I trust them. My pistols are strictly for self defense, and must remain rock solid in reliability. Have yours been completely reliable ??

The original shield was my first semi auto and I wasn't very accurate with it. When I moved out of one of the communist New England states that I was living in to the southeast and no longer was restricted by that state's magazine capacity laws, I purchased the shield plus and have found that I shoot it very good, much better than the original shield and it is my edc choice when I do carry a semi auto. I normally carry a snubbie revolver because of my lifestyle (I work from home and I am home or out and about in my neighborhood the majority of the time), but when out in public the shield plus is with me. I agree with you on the slide release it is very difficult to engage, that's probably the only complaint I have with it.

Great review man!!! I enjoy my Shield Plus, and it was actually the first gun I ever owned myself.I really couldn’t be more happy with it,but that is just me.I can see why you like your Glock 48,because it is all decked out.I believe if you got the performance model of the Shield Plus you might like it more.I mean you are comparing it to your Glock that is ported, and has a modified trigger etc. That to me is not a fair comparison,if that Glock didn’t have all that, and was just stock like your Shield Plus.I think that would be a whole different discussion.I would like to see you get a performance model of the shield plus and compared to your Glock 48.That might be a whole different ballgame then, just saying.
