- How do I add non Spotify songs to my phone?
I couldn't find a helpful tutorial anywhere! So after much troubleshooting, I decided to make one that actually works, until Spotify changes their system again lol.
For everyone still struggling to get it to work, here are a couple things to try.
1. You need Spotify Premium
2. Be sure you’re connected to the same WiFi network.
*You may need to allow Spotify to access your local network in your phone settings
3. Be sure to turn local files on BOTH devices
4. Try rebooting the apps to get things moving along and updating
5. Try making sure your songs are in .mp3 format
6. Try temporarily disabling your computer’s firewall
7. Conjure a spirit from the back rooms and cross your fingers 😅
Also, you can add album artwork in windows media player or VLC 😉

somehow doesnt work for me :(
my phone app settings look different but i did activate local data. also spotify connect on my pc says my phone is in another network even tho theyre both connect to the same wifi.
At least on iPhone, you might have to go the privacy tab for Spotify in your system settings and enable network sharing, I was struggling for 3 hours to figure that out

i don’t know what i’m doing wrong I guess i don’t really know how to get my songs in mp3 format and if i did that right the local files are nowhere to find
USEFUL TIP!
I spent hours downloading songs and following the steps but it didn't work on my phone. It said that the songs would not sync, despite me being on the same network. Finally figured out why!
My songs were downloaded in the mp3 format and I guess it was not compatible with iPhone (I could not drag the files to iTunes either). I converted all the files into m4a (You could use a mp3->m4a converter or download your songs in m4a from the start if possible) and they immediately worked! Everything is now playable in my Spotify :) Hope it helps!
p.s: I saw some comments saying theirs only worked with mp3 files, but somehow mine only worked with m4a. So I guess just try and see which works for you!

This was SO HELPFUL. I've had Spotify for 10+ years and this whole process still gets me. Some of my songs randomly were no longer playing on my phone and I couldn't figure out how to fix it. I wasn't connected to the same WiFi network, so once I did that, it re-downloaded the missing songs. Come on, Spotify! Anyway - thank you. :)

I was having a problem getting the my downloaded songs to work on my iPhone with the message "spotify cant play this right now. if you have the file in your computer you can import it".
I fixed this by going to my iPhone's "Settings", locating the Spotify App and enabling "Local Network" where it says "Allow Spotify to Access". Hope this helps :D

For me too, but I fixed it by disabling local files on my phone. Downloading the playlist on Spotify on my PC(even though it should be stored there already. Dunno how it works). then reopen Spotify on your phone and reenable local files. You must also do this step whenever you download new files, but it still works for me.

You may need to go to settings and allow Spotify to use local network but idk.
thanks alot man! for any others, make sure your firewall is off, to turn it off just go into your settings and look up firewall, then turn off the one that says it’s “(active)”

it just wont work... it feels like ive tried everything... did they patch this or something? Does my PC need to be on wifi specifically, or will ethernet do? It pops up on my iphone so im assuming its okay... someone please help

works fine for me, just takes a few mins to sync up -- try having PC on same wifi as phone and it should work -- good luck

Spotify removes my local files after a few days. Never had this problem. Really strange. Any idea?

If you’re on iPhone you need to go to local files and put them into the folder in Spotify.

When I enable Local Files there is no Icon in the Playlist tab like you showed. What am I doing wrong ? Nothing changes when I turn it on

Even after doing all the steps, it still shows the songs I've added as grey on the mobile app, yet it lets me play them on computer. Both devices are on the same network, do you know how to fix it?

Turn on mobile data on ur phone > hotspot your computer > press download on the playlist > Go back to your phone > go to settings > audio quality > download (at the bottom) > turn on "download using mobile data"

I had a problem where it kept showing “not downloaded” so I tried a different way to download to mp3 on the pc and it worked,

everytime i close the app and im not connected to the same wifi as my computer, it removes the download... how do i fix that?
For me it also does but i fixed it by looking in the local data file on my phone. So the songs cant be played in the playlist i created when im not in the wifi but they are playable in the local data file on the phone. Maybe that works for you

if anyone is having issues, the biggest problem that isn't stated is that spotify doesn't allow DRM-protected music to be downloaded, meaning that the song won't be allowed to be shared unless you remove the drm protection from the song

aaaa i want to bash my head in. this worked for the MOST part, i wanted to have these 7 songs on spotify. for 6 of those songs, it worked absolutely PERFECTLY... but of course... the ONE song it didnt work for is my favorite of those 7. and i keep following the steps and no matter what i do, absolutely NOTHING is working aaaa

so now spotify made it so that your device won't let you listen to it now, what do i do now?
Mine works for like an hour and then once I try to listen to the song later it is unable to play but shows that it has been downloaded. Idk what to do to allow it to play whenever possible.

hey :) i added a cover for the song on my Computer through mp3tag and now it has a cover on the PC, but not on my phone :( could you help me out with this?
If took me a few times resyncing everything to get it to work. I think the best bet is making sure the artwork is there before attempting to sync in the future. I can’t quite remember but I may have had to reinstall the whole Spotify app 🤷♂️

I've tried nearly everything I can think of for the past hour, but it still won't download/transfer my local file to my phone from my laptop. It shows up, and it plays just fine on my laptop, but everytime I try to play it on my Samsung it gives the following message: "Spotify can't play this right now. This track isn't available on your device." Anyone have the same issue?
Edit: I've given up and used a USB cord to connect my laptop to my phone. I now have two identical copies of the same song with the only difference being that the first can be played solely on my laptop and the second only on my phone, but at least I have access to the song on both devices now. I'm still holding out hope for a solution that doesn't require me to duplicate my songs across devices, though 😅

A little late, but I have the same issue... I suspect it's a android problem?
Edit: According to spotify, you need to enable perrmisions for "local network" (support.spotify.com/us/article/local-files/) but..... this setting doesn't exist on android, akward.
TUTORIAL FOR ONLY (apple) MOBILE: get the video with the audio you want, find an MP3 converter, turn it into an MP3, save it to “Files” turn on local files in Spotify, go back to files and hold down on the MP3 and drag it, search for the Spotify file, drag it on top of the Spotify file, and let go, then go back to Spotify and then check your library, there should be a local files folder, check it and your audio should be there :3

Idk what's going wrong I've done this for hundreds of songs over the years but when I tried to do it today 3 or so times they would show up on my phone but always gray and undownloaded I've tried having both my pc and phone on my schools VPN network, our dorm network and my phones hotspot and none are syncing the songs to my phone but continue to sink the many local songs I've added before. If someone can help awesome its much appreciated but its not like I'm gonna die

Unfortunately it didn't work first try when I followed your steps but I did the following and it fixed it.
1- Disable windows firewall.
2- Make sure Spotify is ran as administrator for it to access your local network.

For everyone who couldn’t play it on there phone still, or didn’t have local files on their phone, you have to download the song onto your phone, then add it to the Spotify file in your phone.

You can use programs like VLC or windows media player to add them into the metadata. Plenty of tutorials on that :)

make sure the files are MP3 only guys i had issues and i realised the files i were trying to add to spotify were FLAC which spotify doesn’t support for local files
