There's a cave at the top near the shelter. I've done Blood in the Ice and Snow. I don't recommend it. There isn't any water from the Indian Center to Big Cedar Mtn. Plan accordingly. During Apr. when the Mtn. Laurel is in bloom, it's beautiful!!!! Don't camp in Slaughter Gap, because it's haunted. KNOW your Indian lore and the history of the area. You'll understand. In March 1975, I saw a Bell Huey land in the field before the summit. There was ice and snow on the mountain. I asked the pilot, a major, why he did it. He was bored. I asked if flew in NAM. He stated YES. There was only an 18" clearance for the rotors. Don't underestimate the weather. It can change there in a couple hours, especially in the winter. From clear to snow (2').
Another awesome video from you guys! Thanks for sharing your adventures! We live in Murphy, NC but used to live right on the Toccoa River - up off Aska Rd. in Blue Ridge. We’re always been avid hikers but unfortunately we haven’t been able to get out and explore due to health issues. Your videos are inspiring us to get back out there, even on some easy trails. 🤙🏽
First of all guys, great video! I live here and I am a historian and you guys really got some amazing footage. That Has to be a DJI drone! Anyway, you guys literally missed the true summit which is about 25 yards off to the left of the shelter. That's where the USGS geological marker on the summit is. It's actually down inside rock so many people never do see it. And also, The plant you were calling mountain laurel was actually Rododendron shown here in the video, but no matter. You guys did a wonderful job. It is very true, the mountain is named for the huge battle that took place possibly 300 or more years ago between the Cherokee and the Creek. It was fought in the gap between this mountain and the next one over, Slaughter gap. Most archaeologist/historians believe it was a massive horrible fight where almost everyone perished. Hence the name of the gap and those two mountains. Keep up the good work, guys!

Looks like a good hiking package with DeSoto waterfall. It can’t get much hotter than 80F during hot summer months.
