In this video, Madeline from Knitting House Square shows step-by-step how to knit a ski mask! This free pattern is knit flat (not in the round), then seamed up the side. The steps shown in the video include the cast on, ribbing pattern, casting off for the ski mask opening, casting back on after the opening, decreasing, and seaming using mattress stitch. The free pattern is available in two sizes and is linked below!
    Yarn
    Adult: 190 yds (174 m) worsted weight #4
    Youth: 120 yds (110 m)
Both shown in Joann Big Twist Value www.joann.com/big-twist-value...
    Gauge: 12 sts x 10.5 rows = 2”x 2” ribbing knit flat (unstretched) on US 7 (4.5 mm)
    Materials
    - 6 stitch markers amzn.to/3arTQaj
    - 1 removable stitch marker
    - Scissors
    - Tapestry needle amzn.to/3OWA5GF
    - Ruler
    - US 7 Knitting Needles (4.5 mm) amzn.to/3IqCqHC
Note this project is knit flat, so it can be knit on circular or straight knitting needles. I would recommend a circular knitting needle (at least 24" in length)because there are a lot of stitches for this project that may not necessarily fit on straight knitting needles.

Thank you for this! I'm going to knit one asap. I have seen videos for knitting in the round but this way seem so much simpler even with the seaming 🤗

Excellent tutorial. I wish you had demonstrated the purl decrease row. I got confused when you discussed it and I was looking at the written instructions.

Thanks for the wonderful tutorial. You explain everything perfectly. I have a question, if I cast 70+2 stitches how do I go about the decrease? Thank you for your kind reply and have a wonderful Holiday Season.

If I used that caston for an in-the-round project, would I cast it on in the other direction so I'd still knit the first row with it seated backwards like that? (I feel like the stitch would be loose if I knit normally, but I can't quite picture it in my head. I'll have to give it a try later.)

Hi. Does 2''x2'' ribbing mean 1x1 ribbing? And the gauge here is 2'' x 2'', not the usual size 4''x4''?

How many stitches do you cast on to make this in the round?

    • @KnittingHouseSquare
      @KnittingHouseSquare  Год назад +2

2 Stitches less, and then when you are working the ribbing rounds, you would skip the first knit 1, and the last purl 1 (those two stitches become part of the seam in the flat version)
