Good podcast! Many 'hobbyists' try and transition into a career doing what they 'love,' only to discover that having to make a profit at that is not as easy as they think, and working to someone else's expectations is not the panacea they thought it would be.

Evan's comment about somebody getting a computer science degree and then operating a CNC is dangerously close to what happened at my work. Knowing wood's material properties and how to properly cut it is so important to productive working. I've had to sand so many pieces that could've been cut smoother if the operator had known better. Or remake parts where knots got blown out, etc. Really enjoyed this episode. As someone who works in a semi-production shop, I found myself agreeing with pretty much everything y'all were saying. Good stuff 👍🏽

Try Tom McLaughlin's Shop Night Live show Thursday nights at 8:00 PM EST on RUclips if you would like a live woodworking show to interact with. His entire back catalog of shows is on RUclips.
