What started out as just a video on the M379 grew a bit, into a look at the whole evolution of Jean Rondeau's efforts to conquer Le Mans that culminated with his 1980 victory, the first and only driver/constructor to win the 24 Hour race and the only to do so in an eponymous vehicle.

Great video and not "too long".

I'm not surprised Dick Barbour " dragged down" the cumulative qualifying time for his car. I was always surprised he could get in the cars. Great man that he was, larger than life is probably the kindest way to describe both his personality and his bulk.

@@paulreilly3904 it takes all types - plenty of greats got their start supporting gentleman drivers. Makes things a lot more entertaining than formula one, as long as one doesn’t go the Tower Motorsports route…

Pardon me saying this, old chap, but by this time Cosworth were now free from any Ford (UK or USA) finance or influence.
Just a point! Still really liking your output. 😂

10:05: The "female" Inaltera with Lombardi and Beckers finished a very credible 11th also. They lost time apparently when an electrical short circuit left the car stranded at Mulsanne corner for some time around the 12th hour.

Rondeau was the only and true "Mr. Le Mans". Reportedly, somewhat of a prima donna, yet no one will ever do what he accomplished.

@@lenslr Well, he was famous for his temper even before his car-building days. In fact, though he was far from lame on a track, his temper did cost him some better rides early on. I've read that a big reason for Inaltera to quit their support was exactly his demeanor...

6:57: Factually incorrect. Matra did not "go bankrupt". The company decided to exit motorsport in December 1974 as they had achieved its goal set 10 years before of winning a Formula 1 world championship, a World Championship of Makes title and the 24 Hours Of LeMans ( 3 straight years). The parent company was also involved in the aerospace and defense industries. Sometime after 1974, the parent company's management decided to exit the road car business altogether to focus on its other businesses and sold it to Chrysler Europe, which apparently did go bankrupt in the late 1970s and was bought by the parent company of Peugeot.
