These are the techniques Ben Woods uses in his arrangements and compositions within his scores, available at www.sellfy.com/benwoods
This lesson series is not meant to teach you how to become an authentic Flamenco guitarist, nor to teach the art, rules and rhythms of Flamenco. Instead just the Flamenco techniques and some alternatives Ben Woods uses in his music.

flamenco guitar is incredibly fun and borderline addicting once you get used to it. im still barely okay but man ill tell ya. its some of the most fun I've had in years.
"When one teaches, two learn". - Robert Heinlein
Deep...and true! 😉
I just wanted to say thank you. I have been dabbling in flamenco trying to pick up what I can on youtube, but your lessons here are by far the best and clearest. Cheers !
Thanks, Ben, always amazing videos. I REALLY appreciate these, they are super helpful!!!
Thanks Ben, I need to learn this, thanks for showing us.
Ben, These lessons are invaluable, fun, inspiring gifts! Thank you very much.
Man your videos have helped me so much brother. Thanks and keep them coming!
Love! Love! Loved this! Thank you!
Brilliant work! Keep it up!
Amazing player u r!! perfect than many of them!!must have learnt it right at the first place....keep it up!! we want more flamenco lessons:)
Learning this to play the Gerudo Valley song honestly.
Ben - just seeing this video based on my recent interest in Flemenco guitar. It was great. Your instructions/ demo for rumba rhythm was very easy and clear to follow. It will take practice for me, but thank you!
I really appreciate this, thank so much.
Thanks a lot! Cool lesson
Gold. Thank you.
Muchs gracias. De verdad que he aprendido mucho con sus videos.
I just wanted to say thank you. I have been dabbling in flamenco as well!
thank you Ben
Magnifique très bien expliquer.
Merci.
You are the Best!
thanks for the lesson.
Ha, love it: "At the rumba speed... sometimes they go quite fast" (understatement). Ben proceeds to order, "Warp seven, Number One... Engage."
lmao
Got it down in like 2 weeks, great video
This is awesome! Thank you! Gotta lot of work ahead of me haha
Lovely
Thanks Ben
Gracias por la info !!
Very good lesson ☺😍😍
Thank you coach, I have been drilling this 1/2 an hour a day. My chuck sounds like a full-on Charles, but I'm working on it.
Thank you you brother
You are a Very good player . Super technique.!
Teacher Ben woods your the best 🥰🎶👍🏻
Thanks for the lesson and youtube tip
You Are My Inspiration Dear Ben Sir
I watched Your Malaguena More than 1000 times
Wow! Thank you!
I learned it, now its very easy
Yea...it's four years later, but I gotta say your lesson is clear and easy to follow. Playing guitar and singing for years and now I discovered flamenco. I'm obsessed with its incredible technics and obviously..sound. It's the Great Labowskis fault. Thanks for the lessons brother.
Thanks Toni, sounds like your on a good path!
Man, u rule!
Thank u sir
Nice bro
Your Awesome!!!!!
Gonna learn me some rumba strums, and get me some ladies. 😂
That's why we're all here bro
Thankyou!
My pleasure, I hope it helps
Thanks for sharing. Could you please show some STRUMMING patterns ( not rasgeuos ) through different compas .... tangos, bulerias etc...
Очень хороший музыкант и преподаватель. Спасибо бро.
Gostei da aula
Thank you very much. Could you please put a lesson about how to play tremolo? Thanks again
best flamengco. guitarist. you’re. great because you create. a new flavor. of music. FLAMETAL. flamengco and metal. more power. everyday i listen to your. stuf. more power.
🤘🤘🤘👍👍👍🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸
u are awesome....
can you make tutorial aguas donde vas plis🙏
That "chuck" sound! So THAT'S the missing tone eluding me in learning Agua Donde Vas! I've got some woodshedding to do now. This and the impossibly fast arpeggio section... those descending triplets are killing me! I'll save the sweep arpeggios for when I get these things down... that's a whole other ball game!
John Fredrickson The chuck sound is what was missing from my inventory for so long. Wish I had learned it earlier because it's easy and opens so many doors.
2:03 ... "I lost track ... going this slow makes it a little difficult" ~ odd I have the opposite problem LOL .... so many right hand techniques (if you're right handed) are like patting your head and rubbing your belly but x10 times worse haha
that's what i wanted to learn!
I'm happy it helped
How are you making the chuck sound? How do I stop the strings from ringing
On the first beat how do you do a downstroke with your thumb and golpe in the same move?
In a grasping motion, the thumb strums across the strings, while the fingers go into the soundboard to make contact.
Thanks Ben I'm gonna practice that
What strings do you use. Brand & tension?
2:20 faster is lit
I can't tell on the gulpa are you hitting it with your thumb or your finger ?
Thank you ben. It is not fast for me thank god, but ive been doing it wrong i guess(?) for the last 10 years-ish. Trying to change the way i played it stumped me for a full 4 hours! Huh.
Going up-down-up entirely with the index finger after beat three- instead of using the thumb on the last upstroke- sounds much better. I just changed my rumba strum. Thanks for the insight
🤘
3:59 alien move ?
fantastic thank you is this your Ortega signature model

Thank ya! Now ee ken play da gitur
these r just awsme.for last few months I have been watching you sir.I am from India.getting a flemenco guitar here is difficult. I have a classical one.is it ok to practice on it....thank you.
Flamenco and Spanish classical guitar are same bro
What is that at 2:25-2:26? That beautiful hand technique, how do you do that?
Rasqeado
hello Ben , nice videos but can i ask you , how long did it take to be perfect in all these techs
and did you practice all of them together or each one alone ?
thank u Ben very much and keep going
23 years, start practicing bitch 😂
Good question!.... I often wonder how long it took Ben to learn all those techniques too, and long it took Ben to become a proficient concert guitarist.
Flamenco is so awesme i wish i was born in spanish so i learnt this technique
It IS totally awesome! I'm not Spanish, I was born in Seattle. Anyone can learn!
Apparently not so easy to learn as an Indian 😔
I wanna learn it so badly and there are no flamenco teachers around here
What was the first accent described at 0:56 in? I didn't catch what that was.
Golpe(tap soundboard with ring finger) and simultainiously strike all strings. This is the first move and falls on beat 1.
why can't I move my fingers fast?is there any good idea?
madan tumbapo it's muscle memory, start out slow, practice everyday and the speed will come, theres no way around it.
So I've been practicing this one for a little bit and my strumming just sort of sounds noisy and unpleasant to me. I'm not sure what it is. I don't feel that I've got it down yet so maybe I just need practice but also I'm using an ordinary guitar and not a classical so could that be it? It sounds less loud at speed also but I can see here you play it slowly and it still sounds nice. Anybody got a tip for me?
Hmm it's tough to know whats going on. But yeah a nylon string guitar is recommended. And I recommend you go back and watch this lesson more carefully and always practice slowly with a metronome. It takes time but it will strengthen and then you can slowly start going faster, keeping the machine-gun timing. Good luck my friend.
@@BenjaminWoods Thanks. I'll give slowing it down some more a try and maybe pick up a nylon string guitar at some point soon. This series of videos is part of my regular routine right now and I definitely do feel the accuracy and timing showing up in the rest of my playing so thanks a lot.
Thanks for the great lesson. Btw can I don't use the golpe?
I use it, but it's fine if you dont want to.
thank you very much, I can do this rumba strumming now 👍👍
great stuff man, i would love some advanced flamenco techniques as well
Past the most recent 8 videos in this playlist there are a few more that show a few more advanced techniques. ruclips.net/p/PLZoV7gLOjtDUpwdKtCHR3zT-ePqCJlrok
Ben Woods ok great thank you
I want to buy a nice flamenco guitar can anyone point me a some good brands. The guitar he is playing looks great anyone know what it is?
kipting look at redgate guitars, Cordoba and yahmaha. See what sound you like and how they feel. I use a Cordoba gk nylon.
Thanks a lot Ben, really good videos, congratulations! I am spanish so I am suppose to play as Paco (just joking, I wil lose some thumbs up for that). Right no it's 10 o'clock in Spain so we are not yet in siesta time :). It may be useful to add something about "rumba catalana"/ventilador (I have not found any video in english but it should be) It is widely used in chorus for example, when people free their souls and start clapping and singing... Jerónimo de Carmen / Pituquete are the ones that I have learnt from (I grew up in Santander, at the north, where flamenco is like a souvenir from Andalucia, so I have to learn by videos like yours, so thanks again)
What you say is true Álvaro. I've found that flamenco is somewhat of a "souvenir" to natives of Andalucía--surprisingly!...Just as I'm sure there are people in Louisiana who are oblivious to blues music and blues artists. Glad to see that you are on the hunt for good flamenco!
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

I can't do the first part of the Technique, its so hard. Any advice?
Waffel Practice... only you can teach yourself
Hey Waffel! Just remember that the hand slaps on 3. Pretend that it's your snare drum while you count out 1-2-3-4, and just keep the right hand moving down up down up down up. Hope that helps!🎸
this is so frustrating for me hahaha after i go with my middelfinger down i use thumb to go down but its going up instead
Stick with it, you'll get it!
Great series of tutorials. Could you elaborate on which strings to contact in each of the eight strokes?
Go for all the strings on moves 1-5, slap(6) then treble strings only(G,B,E) for moves 6,7, 8
Right...so I need you to make a full tutorial of just the agulpe' alone
Haha. My fingers want to scratch instead of strike while my thumb strums.
Here ya go ruclips.net/video/S292MeWjhgo/видео.html
@@BenjaminWoods oh , nice. Thank you very much.
We need training about chords ( play speed and change the chords ) PLZ 🙏🏻
yes please learn me 😂 0:19
The first movement is very hard
what is golpe?
it means strike.
Mateus Mendonça
Golpe is hitting the body of the Guitar, mostly of the time below the chords but this can be done on the top two.
The way is done is play a beat down with the thumb and hit the body of the guitar with your middle finger nail at the same time.
0:24
Another guy teaches this except the last one is a thumb up which impossible for me.I'll use your way
I only show what I do, not all the ways out there. Although of course I think my ways are best hehehehe
I wanna learn flamenco......i have Yamaha C40........
It's funny how when you can do it fast, going slow is difficult LOL ... it's like the centipede stopping and really thinking about how he controls all those legs
You're probably right. Try the speed function in RUclips-gear icon lets you slow down 75%, and 50% without changing pitch.
@@BenjaminWoods thanks ... yes I recently discovered that and was watching an old Sabicas vid at slow speed to see his right hand fingers LOL
Half of the video completed
Still on first step
Good job!
