Kevins instructions worked to the letter. the video is utter rubbish without comments. steps 1-5 worked as said but quicker. didn't have to wait so long for the screens to appear.. searched the web high and low. thanks Kevin. only thing to add. once you select factory reset/wipe, you have to wait for a few moments for the data to be wiped, this will be clarified at the bottom of the screen after which you have to manually reboot the device selecting "Reboot device" in the menu at the top of the screen.

Today morning suddenly pattern is not working for my sons tab, which he has been using to attend online classes and it was a panic how to reset it as it was keep on asking the pattern and the correct pattern didnt work. Step one: REMOVE YOUR SD CARD from any device BEFORE you factory reset it!! Devices detect SD cards as memory/storage. So if a micro SD card is in a device when a factory reset is performed it may (and most likely will) wipe everything stored on the SD card as well. At the very least it might retain a couple photos/docs, but the reset will likely corrupt all the data/files on it which can prevent your device from being able to read the SD card properly, thus preventing you from retrieving anything and requires the SD card to be re-formatted. Which erases everything on the SD card anyway. So be aware, performing a hard/factory reset on a device "restores the device back to the manufacturer's default settings." Meaning everything that has changed since the device was first activated is erased. Gone. DO NOT factory reset your device if your primary concern is recovering photos or other irreplaceable files that were on the device prior to reset, you will be sadly disappointed. It's hard when you lose everything you have saved on a device, but not realizing your SD was in the device until after you reset it, is next level devastation.
Again could you please post a video where you describe how you did this. I’ve watched this at least 40 times & still can’t get my Galaxy Tab A to go into these modes & reset. I forgot the swipe pattern on mine. PLEASE ! and thank you…
the video didn't help me but another user commented: Ok so I finally got it reset - same problem as many of you have had. These are the steps: 1. Press at the same time - power button, volume down button and home key for several seconds. * the device will enter a screen requesting the user to press volume up to install custom os or press volume down to cancel. This is the step that confused me (31sec). 2. Press the volume down to cancel. * quickly do the following after pressing the volume down key as the screen will immediately go blank 3. Press at the same time the home key, the volume up key and the power button for several seconds until the android icon appears (52sec) 4. The android logo will appear for about 25 seconds stating "installing system update" and then the warning symbol appears (1:15). The device boots to the wipe menu screen after about 35/36 seconds(1:41). You don't need to randomly press any buttons or home key as it will reboot on its own. 5. If you've successfully arrived at this spot in the video, the menu items are self-explanatory.

Thank you so much. Even though there was no audio, a comment made by a viewer helped me out. My tablet was on and I could not turn it off or unlock the screen even though I used the correct PIN. Follow these steps and the tablet will restart. Eter your PIN and it should work. Press volume down home button and power button at the same time hold it, when it turns black let go and do it again but instead with volume up.
You need to explain by speaking or at least leave written specific instructions on what steps to take. What buttons to press and what selection to make. The truth is,,, you’re not helping anybody
I have the Galaxy Tab A (2019) model. Bought from Best Buy from open box. It looks like it had a factory reset but when I went through setup it asked me for the previous account used to set up. To power off the tablet, you need to input the password!
