I know you do it for good content, but Joey please return devices like this. These sellers don't deserve the money

I disagree. This was a relatively easy fix and it was broken exactly how they said it was (HDMI port issue, broken inside). Much better than a console that is labeled no power but is a dead APU or whatever else those professional sellers claim.
@ the board was butchered and reassembled wrong, including missing almost every screw. Not to mention the crushed/torn wires. Listing should have been “thought I knew how to fix electronics and have properly made a mess of this”
Word. They deserve the worst, by selling this as no display because “the hdmi port might be broken” wtf. Fucking up this hard and a description like this? No f***ing way…
OMG, I am truly astounded that the PS5 even turned on! What in the name of love was that last repair technician doing?!
They obviously didn't know what they were doing. My 12 year old granddaughter could probably solder better than that. 🙄😅
I think the previous fixers used a flamethrower to remove the HDMI port 😂😂

I think you mean they unspooled a whole spool of solder, placed it on the port and then used a heatgun to solder it down. 100g of solder incoming!
It might be sold as for parts / repair, but surely there's a point where it's totally reasonable to return something as "not as described" - this one is missing pieces and has significant damage from a previous failed repair which wasn't disclosed in the eBay listing description
I'm glad you got this fixed and working, it is very satisfying to see a disaster cleaned up like you did.

@@billyhidalgo2264 If an item isn't as described in the listing the buyer can still return it. I've sold on eBay for a long time and they will still let the buyer send it back for a full refund.

I have been an eBay seller AND buyer for about 10 years. The state of that PS5 is unacceptable. I don't think I've ever seen a more perfect example of "Item not as described." I would've sent that nightmare back immediately. 😮
I had to send a Toshiba laptop back once. The seller was so argumentative. It was clear they weren't expecting to get called out on he. My favourite is when they accept your return after some back and forth "as a gesture of goodwill". It's not goodwill mate, it's the least you can do after trying to scam me!
@RepairWins Ebay will force the seller to accept the return whether they want to or not. I hope you got all of your money back.
@ I know. I got them to have it back AND pay for the return postage. I'd rather not have to bother; it would be much easier if people were honest but hey, at least we've got buyer protection.

There was just a guy with a 1kg soldering "hammer" working before 🙂Looked very nasty but there was so much flux and solder everywhere. Keep calm, clean the mess, start over with your impressions again 🙂

Good on you for fixing this one Joey. It's shocking what people think is acceptable to sell. This console shouldn't have cost more than £100 in my opinion and it should have been described better.
I think the technician put a whole spool of solder on the HDMI port and then melted it with a heat-gun.

If you have a friend with type 1 diabetes, an empty hypo from them might make a useful tool to position tiny components during reflow. I have a relative with diabetes and am amazed at how fine that particular needle is. The hypo plastic tube would make a comfortable handle I'm guessing. Just a thought.
Guys avoid the fumes of the lead solder or you will end making the same mess in the first ps5 😂

That was one of the worst ports I've seen, but surprisingly not the worst job of putting it back together/cleaning it up that I've seen. Good job with the repair.
Return devices like this, stick it to the scammers for all the past and further ‘clients’ they send devices like this to who can’t fix it. Scummy behavior by the seller - return garbage like this , not even worth the content. Shameful of the seller trying to pass off a f’d up board

I think you should have added solder mask, even if not technically necessary. If I was buying it I'd feel better knowing there wasn't so much bare metal on the board.

that was a rather easy fix considering the state of board.
I seen some bad work done as repaired well over 100 of them, but that one of the worst. What did they used to desolder HDMI a blowtorch? Only reason won't say the worst is due to most the pad's are still their which I am shocked considering everything around it was pretty bad.
These faulty ebay sellers are crafty. Ive recently started buying for parts items and have come to know this the hard way. Yes joey you are right, its never as it seems.

Ebay can make you scream with fury sometimes, I bought a bus bar box for my 3 wheel van and said to seller before I bought it if he could whip it out the door soonest and don't mind paying couple extra quid for expediated postage... so he said OK nyetski problemo pedro and this was wednesday... well I got notified that he posted it today so I said what about the quick despatch etc and asked for me extra £2 back :( Man he is going to be a star as he will get my first ever negative or neutral feedback, very unhappy and its only he had this particular one I needed that I haven't asked for the full amount back. The main electrics in my Reliant are rotten around the battery posi terminal and I have gotten everything ready to rebuild and streamline the leccies esp as my super powerful HID headlamps are running from it and well I ain't got no dips right now nor my driving lamps and my little speaker which plays OFAH theme music is a dead as is my stereo but worse thing is it won't crank because the crank circuit runs from a battery feed and the wiring is so rotten it just needs ripping out like an old fireplace and starting again with thick copper core.

You could fix it now - but who knows how long this board will hold up until it gets returned then you’re stuck with a pile of dung
It likely hold up since it was thankfully the HDMI port and in that area the previous tech touch and thankfully nothing else? He did replace the missing wrong components and repaired the broken pad. The large solder blobs were on ground plane, so it actually stronger since it now on a larger area to support HDMI port. I would have use UV solder mask to hold wire used to repair broken pad down, other then that he fixed it as I would have exactly to the T and I repair them professionally 100's of them. He did the best he could despite the damaged caused by the other seller/tech.
Man that PS5... What the hell have they done to the hdmi port? Pearl Harbor and Hiroshima all in one.. But a nice fix.

Have you ever considered using someone to do the repairs on the power supplies? i know you're not keen on it but other may be willing?
RUclips videos about learning trying and tackle the power supply It’s not that scary people change their own brakes and then drive around, so give it a go.

I mean great content, but wtf is going on here I’d send a picture back to the seller…. Is this you! Or is whoever it is you need to teach yourself.
This is why I tell people straight up. If you don't know what you're working on, don't work on it. And I get called a gatekeeper. Even though the knowledge is out there and a nearly infinite ways to learn before attempting to ruin your expensive electronic devices.
How is anyone going to learn if they don't try?
When I trained in electronics (a long time ago), we where all given a Sinclair ZX Spectrum to repair first, and even though we were not told, we were expected to mess it up and destroy the board. Only then would the boss produce a brand new board, and tell us to fit it. It’s the only way to learn.
