I am 68 years too now.As the curtain of my life;slowly comes down. This song is the beautiful epitome; of a great love still felt. But the person gone on. To live a life of love and fulfillment I pray.
Oh gosh, your comment touched me. I am 66 and my curtain of life still is raised. Lots of things to experience and people to touch my life and me to touch theirs. A simple thing like the first flower in the Spring gets me going. Hang in there friend.
I agree. I don't know how I missed him but about 10 years ago I was still chatting w/a guy from England and he played this song for me. I felt like the world slowed down I caught my breath, felt my heart flutter and my eyes started to tear up. His voice is pure ecstasy. I find it so sad most Americans have heard him sing, yet never knew his name. How I wish people sang like this today.
+andcheeky2 Matt was the best singer ever and better than Sinatra...why? Because Matt sang with such great feeling and emotion...he was the BEST no question John
+Martin Platt aka John, the guy from England told me, Matt was Frank Sinatra's favorite singer. He was full of it often but I always wondered if it were true. Wouldn't surprise me, because Matt was that good. Have a wonderful evening.
At the age of 11, I first encountered this song, and it stirred something deep within me. Now, at 68, it continues to evoke powerful emotions. Best Singer And Song EVER!
2020 'Walk away' brings back lots of beautiful memories. Now I am 68 years old, but I still listen to this song. I do like Matt Monro's golden voice. 👍👍
The sad untimely passing of Matt Monro left a big void in the wonderful but now forgotten songs of yesteryear. He was one of the last of the great crooners and was sensational. He is unforgettable and sadly missed.
My dad died of Dementia, on 12th, last year, at 87, this was the first song at his funeral. I've heard it so many times, but didn't really understand the lyrics til then. Then i broke my fucking heart, god bless you dad, you're right, its one of the best songs ever written!
As a vocalist It is very difficult to hang onto a note without wavering slightly off pitch......he was perfect every time...he was blessed with golden chords
@@TheRogerWyatt Totally .. So true, As a ballroom dancer in my younger days, relying on perfect pitch & melody was so important to our beautiful dances Waltz, Foxtrot etc Peggy Wood (Aoteroa)
I was a young teen when I heard this song by Matt Monro. It moved me so much then. It still does. A very beautiful melody and Monro is a beautiful singer.
This man had such an extraordinary sole full voice, amazing feeling in his performance. I never tire of hearing him sing. What an amazing talent we have lost. Thank God we have his music to listen to for evermore.
I can remember my parents playing him and saying to me you will like this when you are older me saying yeah rite never at 16 well now I’m 55 and totally love his voice and music lol how wrong I was to doubt them 🤔
The history of this song: In 1964 Matt Monro represented the UK in the Eurovision Song Contest in Copenhagen. Whilst there, he heard the Austrian entrant Udo Jurgens sing his song called 'Warum Nur Warum' (Why Only Why). Matt was so taken with the song that he asked his manager Don Black if he would write English lyrics for it. This song 'Walk Away' was the result.
it's 2018. i'm into matt monro marathon, listening to his songs. I am crying, not only because of his golden voice but because I "discovered" him only these days. I missed a great opportunity of enjoying his songs during my early years . I died when he said "Goodbye my love"... it was said and done, PERFECTION.
Loved this song when it first came out. Then back in London in the 70s for a visit I was in a coffee shop and this song came on the radio. There were so many people in that place, yet we all just stopped and listened and agreed that Matt Munroe's voice was so smooth and beautiful, and one of a kind. Matt had the power to touch so many different people at the same time.
+LouZ ontek I was lucky to meet him in about 1967 -Checkers Nightclub Sydney. Lonnie Donegan and Dusty Springfield were there too. After the show they all came down into the audience and spoke to their respective fans. About 30 of us had a chat with Matt and we just had a friendly discussion about music, other artists and songs that he might be able to sing etc. After about 20 minutes we left, not because we were bored but out of consideration for him. But he was not in any hurry to leave at all. He was a fantastic singer and a great guy.
+LouZ ontek That is a memory I will have for ever - Great singer and great guy. I think if you scroll down you will find a guy who worked in a restaurant (pizza outlet?) and he also found him very friendly and he always looked forward to his visits.
Great story LouZ ontek! I met Sheila Ferguson from the Three Degrees about ten years ago and we spoke of great singers and she mentioned Matt Monro and his voice of pure velvet!
I dream of waking up some morning to find a tsunami of societal shift in musical taste where the masses would willingly listen to, love, appreciate, & rediscover the likes of Terry Parsons. Where I wouldn't be the one tenth of one percent that remembers, appreciates, and plays his songs repeatedly. Only then would the likes of his talent, stage presence, impeccable appearance, and love of performing become immortal. God has blessed us beyond measure with Monro's short tenure on this island Earth.
It happened before in the early 90s when unforgettable won the grammies. The magic of technology made the duet between natalie and her dad the great late nat king cole possble and seamless. Oh so beautiful memories 😊
I was born this year! I walked into a thrift store one day and this song was on the radio they were playing and three ladies were singing along....just run run away! I was hooked! So Sappy Great!..........Jody
Do you guys know that this is an English version of Austria’s 1964 Eurovision entry ”Warum nur warum”, originally sung by Udo Jürgens who won the Eurovision one year later with ”merci chérie”?
Another fine example of Matt “acting out” the premise of his song, the way the woman sitting at the table is gone by the time he’s done singing. Such a talented singer and yet taken from us too soon; I know he died in February 1985 at the youngish age of 54(that’s not much older than I am now, I’m 51)of liver cancer, I believe I read somewhere.(That’s what my mom died of, one of those rarely cureable cancers.) Anyway, may Matt RIP. :)
I read and thumbs up your comment two year ago. Today I revisited this song and re-read your comment. The great sadness I have is that a year ago I too lost my mum to liver cancer. And yet when I first read your comment mum was still alive and (we thought) well. As you say, liver cancer is a silent killer. It appeared from nowhere and mum was dead within two months of diagnosis. So sorry for the loss of your mother and mine. Regards, Dave.
Walk away, please go Before you throw your life away A life that I could share for just a day We should have met some years ago For your sake I say Walk away, just go Walk away, and live A life that's full With no regret Don't look back at me Just try to forget Why build a dream that cannot come true So be strong, reach the stars now Walk away, walk on If I heard your voice I'd beg you to stay So don't say a word Just run, run away Goodbye my love My tears will fall Now that you've gone I can't help but cry But I must go on I'm sad that I have, after searching so long You, I love you, but told you Walk away, walk on, walk on

I am just about 72,I hope my curtain is still rising
The man with the golden voice.
There's no substitute for quality !!!
2023-24 although the video is dated, the song and singer ,Matt, is world class. They don’t make ‘em like Matt anymore. Pure Talent
The video is not laughable. It´s beautiful.
i know ive said this before although sinatra was chairman of the board,i think matt had the best voice, anyone agree?

+John Fairfield Have to agree, he was much better than Blue eyes, losing Mat was such a tragedy, this is my favourite of all time.

Same age same feelings

If we are judging purely by the quality of the voice, Matt Monro is without doubt near the top - exceptional 😊
AGREED ❤❤

Sadly missed alright. Welcome to the wannabe generation.

wat a voice bloody amazing
This just has to be played over and over again
What a pleasure to hear a man who can really sing, we're still listening Matt :)
A classic from one of the greats
아직도 듣고 있어요. 완전 훌륭한 가수
This song is amazing. What a voice.
He had perfect pitch, In my opinion the greatest male voice ever recorded.
And also Nat King Cole both of them had a very wonderful voice.
As a vocalist It is very difficult to hang onto a note without wavering slightly off pitch......he was perfect every time...he was blessed with golden chords

Discovered Matt's songs about 5 years ago. Now at 39 i'm still listening. Absolute great singer.
Matt Monro one of the greatest singers of all time I never get tired of listening to him

Love this song
Beautiful song-such a shame that vile Savile is there.
And talking over the intro. Didn't Tony Blackburn say they were told to talk over to muck up home recording?
I can remember my parents playing him and saying to me you will like this when you are older me saying yeah rite never at 16 well now I’m 55 and totally love his voice and music lol how wrong I was to doubt them 🤔
Beautiful...............1965

Absolutely beautiful song. Matt Monro has a gorgeous voice. How sad he died of lung cancer at only age 54.
The Greatest Singers have such beauty and depth, they can pierce the Heart with a single Phrase!!
I was 12 yrs old and heard this.... I KNEW I was hearing something SPECIAL. And I was right.:o)
Matt was supreme on another level ❤️
if you listen to that song in 2021, your music taste is awesome
You simply can not find today and never will an "old" but a great singer like those singers in those days...
What a wonderful voice he had.
In my opinion far more melodic and sensual than Sinatra....by a mile....Matt was the best.. x x
always loved this song. played it at my dad's funeral. will always be special to me
My favourite crooner singing one of the all-time great songs.
The best song ever what a voice sheer perfection one of my dads favourites
Matt Monro, the Britsh Sinatra, no doubt. Unequaled!
He was better than Frank Sinatra
Good old Matt, he had texture, tone, power and I just can't help listening to this.
A very touching display in song. Out of this World.

My Dad's 2 favourite singers were Shirley Bassey and Matt Monro. Never understood it when I was a kid. Now at 53, I get it!!!!!
Glad you saw the light, eventually. x 🙃

It’s really an early example of a music video. Love the model’s face...classic!
not bad for a bus driver , to be honest a velvet voice that sang theme songs for bond film and born free ,
The best .....................ever.
Golden voice !
Great Song. Great Voice. I am dreaming.
I. Agree. 500% Matt. Monroe. Is. The. BEST
An excellent video of this incredible song sung by Matt Monro.
My Mum will be 92 next month and she still loves him!!
What a great era to grow up in. Unfortunately the current generation has very little to enthuse about.

Matt Monro is one best singer.
I was in high school, I still remember this song. Great.
I love how the camera pans to the empty chair at the end of the song.
Pure Class!
Walk away, please go
Before you throw your life away
A life that I could share for just a day
We should have met some years ago
For your sake I say
Walk away, just go
Walk away, and live
A life that's full
With no regret
Don't look back at me
Just try to forget
Why build a dream that cannot come true
So be strong, reach the stars now
Walk away, walk on
If I heard your voice
I'd beg you to stay
So don't say a word
Just run, run away
Goodbye my love
My tears will fall
Now that you've gone
I can't help but cry
But I must go on
I'm sad that I have, after searching so long
You, I love you, but told you
Walk away, walk on, walk on
Your last line is incorrect. It's "I'm sad that I, after waiting so long, knew I loved you but told you, walk away, walk on."
Heavy Duty Song 💯Very Well Sung By Mr Matt Monroe💯GrH
Is it really half a century since this velvet voice hit the radios???
Always loved his music esp Walk Away
It isn't even his original song, but a cover of Udo Jürgens's Warum nur Warum
I feel cool and fresh listening to matt's voice in walk away..
❤❤❤❤
ONLY 2 SINGERS MAKE ME CRY.......KAREN CARPENTER AND MATT MONRO.

I know it’s the old man thing but does anyone believe that people in sixty years time will still be listening to what now passes for music?
Frank Sinatra who didn't have to pay to see ANYONE said he would pay to see Matt Monro perform.
Uma das primeiras musicas que gostei em 1966
