I’m so insanely grateful that my manager and assistant manager at a retail store actually care about the employees!!! They go above and beyond to take care of us employees
When I was a manager at Yankee Candle, we had a second store that closed as our storage unit. It had been a tattoo place called Ink. It was coming up on Christmas during covid & we needed some signage. Myself & another manager decided to go. Having fun riding the cart like fools because the mall was so dead when returning back from lockdown. Ink didn’t have power so we had to use our phone lights. Luckily, the signs we needed were right in the front, but I distinctly remember smelling smoke. Julia walked a tad farther in to make sure we didn’t miss any signs and have to come back. She saw a shoe and sock next to cigarette butts. We booked it out of there, I called my SM who told us not to go back. Nick had taken security with him and turns out a homeless person had broken in & was living in there. Apparently, the mall didn’t lock all outside doors so people were sneaking in & living in stores that had closed! Our mall was like 45% open since rent went up and locations were just being shut down. Unfortunately, same happened to my store location as well. Julia & I snooped around and did find a switch blade among the clothes & alcohol. After they changed our back door lock. Any time managers had to go back to Ink, we had to take weapons👍 We had to have walkie-talkies that our security gave us, a weapon, & a buddy. All just to get signs or redecorate the front windows. So to the mall that doesn’t know what locking doors for security or keeping scary individuals out, let’s never meet again!
When I worked in retail a few years ago a lady came in and grabbed a bunch of stuff, walked up and paid in cash and it was covered in something dark and dirty, she then proceeds to tell me it’s from her husbands wallet, who recently passed from a motorcycle accident and the banks didn’t accept bloody bills, my manager made me attempt to wash it since I accidentally touched it already, it wouldn’t come off. Everyone joked that I was fired but I left not long after that
It’s so unfortunate when you get punished for being the better worker because they don’t want the other workers there so they over use and over work you because you are their go to because you are good

When I worked in retail, there was toxic sewer gas coming up from the woman’s bathroom, I constantly smelled weed, and a guy whose charges of murdered were nullified, walked in, changed into our clothes, and tried to put his own back in place of the ones he was stealing. He was caught stealing by the manager but I was fixing up clothes that other customers messed up only a couple of aisles over while this potential murderer was right there. (the police who came told my manager what he allegedly did and it sounded like they were pretty sure he did it.)

I worked in retail for around 14 years...do I have some stories! I worked at Payless for a while and we would often find dirty diapers on the shelves, or used shoes put in the boxes and the new ones gone. When I worked for Claire's/Icing, there was a lady that came in and was holding a box of buffalo wings, talking on her cell and trying to spin the earring holder at the same time..I posted her online..LOL My manager there was awesome, though, so whenever someone tried to pull some shit, she always had our backs. Unfortunately she passed from breast cancer, but we stayed friends up til then, even though neither of us worked there anymore. My husband and I worked at Target overnight doing restock, and one of the newer managers came in thinking he was hot shit because he had a degree in management. His people skills were horrid and he was condescending to the women...then he had the gall to post one of his wedding pics by the timeclock! We were all like, how desperate was she? I worked for Piercing Pagoda, which was actually pretty fun...but one woman came up to the kiosk with her daughter and asked me if I could shove her earring back through her ear! Apparently the hole had closed and she wanted me to traumatize this child! I told her I could repierce her ear, but I was not going to do that. WTH is wrong with people!
Exactly what you were saying about you working at Victoria's secret is exactly what it was like for me working in retail. Apparently I could do the job of two or three people so I needed to get multiple people to cover my shifts. It's not my fault that other people aren't as capable. 😂
My worst retail story is when I was working at a very popular, very large card store... starts with an H. And it was Christmas time, so we had all our ornaments hanging up and they were going really fast... faster than we could order restocks. So, this one older lady comes up to me at the register one day and demands to know if we have a certain ornament in stock. As an assistant manager, I tell her one sec, I go check, I check the backroom, and nothing. And when I came back and told her we didnt, but I'd be happy to take her name and number down so we can hold one for her and give her a call when the next batch comes in... her face shifted. And she straight up tried to lunge across the counter to strangle me. Security got called. Safe to say, she did not end up purchasing that ornament from us.
Omg. I've worked in retail and customer service for over 20 years. My first job was at the public library. A man brought a kitten into the library that was sitting on his shoulder. The poor kitten git scares and pooped all down his back and he trailed it all over the library. My supervisor told me to clean it. I was 16 years old but I knew that I did not get paid enough from that so i was like lol no.
I had a customer poop themselves and then walk through the store as it leaked out the bottom of his pants, he walked the entire length of the store. He was elderly so it wasn't malicious. He then came back the next week because he bought a blanket that was too big and was mad at us for it. He kept saying he has a standard size bed, I asked repeatedly do you have a twin, full, queen or king. He yelled Standard Size, his son was there but he was useless. I had to say multiple times that there are no standard size beds.
i also had an experience at a grocery store where an intoxicated (i think meth) person assaulted our general manager and locked herself in the bathroom. he (GM) had to go to the ER and the cops had to kick in the door to arrest the woman
I worked at target and one time a lady came out of the restroom and said someone made a mess in there so I go in there to see and there was diarrhea all over the walls in the stall and I told my manager and he told me to clean it and I said absolutely not, another time the Line was taking a long time and this old man was cussing and just being obnoxious so I told him the other self check out was open and when he left, he told me that I need to open registers and I said that’s not my problem and he flipped me off and cussed me out there have also been multiple occasions where I went on my break to have a panic attack because my managers were ass! I worked at a dog resort and I never missed a day of work and I bought pink tickets and three weeks in advance. I requested one day off to take my mom to this concert and they gave me the entire week off except for the day that I asked off and I quit over text.
That story of the ladies peeing on the panties at Victoria's Secret sounds so gross! Did the lady lack self awareness? How was she not embarrassed about the whole situation? Even if she couldn't hold in her pee and was having her period at the time, how do you go up to the till and act like nothing happened? Ew! My dad works at a pool and tests PH levels and cleans the bathrooms. He often finds dirty diapers left on top of the changing tables. Like with shit in them. How people can be so disgusting and just not throw stuff in the garbage cans is beyond me.
When I worked at VS I had a lady come in for a panty sale and she went to the fitting room to try them on I guess. I was cashier and she handed me the panties and they were… wet and nasty. I literally THREW them to the ground and covered myself in hand sanitizer and asked a coworker to bring me clean panties to sell this woman because I refused to touch them again.
I also had a manager at VS that saw some lady stealing THOUSANDS of dollars of merchandise and my manager ran out the back door (it was a mall location) found her getting in the car, and the manager literally jumped on the car and kept the door from closing so the woman couldn’t drive away.
