  • Smittybilt XRC GEN2 Jeep Tire Carrier Install was not that difficult to install, it took a couple of hour. Just follow the instructions and if you are as lucky as myself and there were none provided, just contact Smittybilt and give them the product name and number and they will email the instructions to you. Their number is 888-717-5797 and this number is current as of March 21, 2017. Here is a link to Smittybilt and the info for the tire Carrier.

    Thanks Russ G, for allowing me to add this link for the instructions: Just FYI, here is a public link to the current instructions as of early 2017. Keep in mind there have been several updates/versions of this tire carrier so if you have an older one these might not apply.

    Nice video, thank you! I do have a question...I have the same and was trying to mount the CB in the same spot. did you have to grind out the powder coat first to get a good ground?

    • @Burnstravels
      @Burnstravels  3 года назад

      I didn’t grind anything when I installed it. I just had the antenna adjusted.

    Nice Video! I have the same rear setup and have had issues with the tire carrier. I installed myself and tire carrier started to wiggle up and down while i was driving. took it to 4WheelParts in San Antonio and they removed/installed it back on to make sure it was good. About 2-3 weeks later(about a week ago) it started doing the same thing. This time it was about an inch up on the pivot pin. Called 4WP parts again and they let me know that they would order a new one to replace.
    if possible, let me know how it goes with time.
    Thanks

      That's good information to know and if I have any problems I will put them in the notes. Also how the issue was repaired or exchanged for a new one like yourself. For myself I wanted the tailgate and tire carrier to open together. I was also looking at the Teraflex 4838150 HD Hinged Carrier and Adjustable Spare Tire Mounting Kit for my 2015 Jeep Wrangler also. If for any reason in the future I have issues with the current tire carried I may purchase the Teraflex one, hopefully I don't. Thanks for your comment.

    @Burns Travels what brand LED 3rd brake light did you buy

    • @Burnstravels
      @Burnstravels  6 лет назад

      Rod B well I broke my standard stock by accident when I was installing the tire carrier. The one I have I found on Amazon. It was less than $30 and it’s actually not a bad light. At the time I was planning on replacing all lights with LED but I’m not their yet. When i do I’ll have a video for it. The light is not a name brand it’s nick off. Again it works well

    TB you talk about bending a pin, Is that a cotter pin under the bumper? A local shop did dis for few and the bolt loosened and the carrier wanted to leave the bumper. Please advise.

    • @Burnstravels
      @Burnstravels  6 лет назад

      Well I haven't had an issue, and besides the washers go on then the bolt then the cotter pin. I haven't hand any issues with mine. I looked at my pin just to check and its still there.

    • @talezfromthedashcam3138

      Where is the location of the cotter pin? on the bottom of the tire carrier swing post?

    • @Burnstravels
      @Burnstravels  6 лет назад

      Talez From the DashCam the cotter pin or pin is under the bumper through the post that is on the tire carrier. It keeps the bolt from unscrewing.

    "... there's spacers, a hole, and a nut that a pin goes through..." Yup, I had no instructions either and the verbal description of how to mount the pivot bracket and the carrier arm would have helped here.

    I am thinking of purchasing this for my SRC gen2 rear bumper but reading comments about rattling noise makes me uncomfortable, any updates guys what do you think. P.s. Your videos were solid and very useful when I installed the front and rear bumpers last week. Thank you.

    • @Burnstravels
      @Burnstravels  6 лет назад +1

      mehran arabpour I have had the bumpers for a while and I'm still satisfied with them. To answer the rattling noise you mentioned. If you have added the tire carrier their will be some. I only notice it when I hit bad roads such as pot holes, large bumps, etc, they are the worse. Gravel roads haven't been bad and I think it said somewhere in the instructions that you may need to adjust the bolt that connects the tire carrier to the tail gate. I will have a video coming out soon and I will bring that up along with what I'm doing for the video since it is somewhat related to the rear bumper and tire carrier. Overall I really like what I purchased. Here is a note to think about Teraflex has a heavy duty hinge system with a upgraded tire carrier for larger tires. This is an option that I thought about doing. Just an idea to ponder upon and check it out. Hope this helped and take care and thanks for watching.

    Do you happen to have video from when you put the tire carrier on the pivot pin? I don't as missing parts & instructions when I got mine & don't know what all is missing. The manufacturer has already sent me some of the parts I know are missing & instructions but I feel like I'm missing something.

    • @Burnstravels
      @Burnstravels  7 лет назад

      phewis the pivot pin has black spacers and a slotted nut. The washers are for height adjustment. When you slide your pin in under the bumper, make sure your tire carrier isn't attached to the jeep gate. As the pin slides it you will not be able to bend the pin so open the tire carrier and the pin will turn with the tire carrier so you can bend the pin and keep the pin from coming out. Hope that works for you.

    Does the tire carrier shake or rattle even when the buckle is tighten???

    • @Burnstravels
      @Burnstravels  2 года назад

      Well I have had it for almost 4 years on the jeep and the only thing I might hear is when it moving side to side is the HI-Lift jack I have attached to the carrier. The carrier maybe a few time but I don't notice the carried it the jack I hear mostly.

    Has anyone installed the rotopax gas can on yet. The only thing I can figure is that it goes between the window and the bracket.

    • @TeamPhoenixWV
      @TeamPhoenixWV 2 года назад +1

      Roy I have them installed on the back of my bumper and they are 3 gallon Roto packs now they’re thicker and more square. So about 4 inches thick and about 18 x 12. And I have two of them on my jeep now. Find a place that sells them locally and bring the jeep and see if you can take one out with the sales rep to make sure it fits correctly

    My turnbuckle is loose and I'm not sure how to remedy it. Causes the tire to rattle so loud I can barely think while I drive.

    • @Burnstravels
      @Burnstravels  2 года назад

      Dry tighten up your turn buckle you’ll have to have your tailgate open to do it that might solve the problem. I had that problem about six months after I installed mine and I had to adjust it again. That’s what I did but it rattles every now than then just because of size

    • @soulure
      @soulure 2 года назад +1

      @@Burnstravels Thanks, I removed it and found that the bolt wasn't sitting flush inside the spherical part, it had rusted and been worn down to the point that it's loose no matter what I tighten. I'll just have to get a replacement and that should fix it. I appreciate the response.

    TB can you please share how you attached the 3rd bolt to the Pivot Pin Bracket "that required drilling 1/2 hole thru the frame" . BTW Videos are great.

    • @Burnstravels
      @Burnstravels  6 лет назад

      Darrell Moore I didn’t drill in my frame and it’s been over a year and I haven’t had any issues. Everything works just like when I installed it. I didn’t feel comfortable doing that.

      Did you attach the 4 bolts supporting the hitch before you mounted the Pivot Pin Bracket? Thanks again.

    • @Burnstravels
      @Burnstravels  6 лет назад

      I had a issue with that too, I did drill the 4th and the carrier has been fine. Put the pin in was difficult until I open / rotated tire carrier which in turned moved the pin hole on the shaft that when into the bumper and me a real simple way to put the pin through the hole and then bend it so it will not fall out. Hope I answered your question and thanks for watching.
