i'm finally going to the US and... it's anchorage
i was kinda in panic at first, but now i'm more like excited!
can't wait to see the ice berg
Darcie you may be nervous now but someday you will look back on this experience and treasure how unique it was. Not many people visit Alaska, let alone live there! Make sure to save some money before you go, so you can take some mini vacations to exciting cities on the west coast of USA and Canada 💖

I used to live in Anchorage! Be prepared to spend more money on items as they will typically be more expensive. Also even though Alaska is known for snow, it will mostly be covered over with ice so be careful with that! You should definitely explore not only the city, but also the surrounding towns and try a reindeer dog while you’re at it!

I'm born and raised from North Pole, Alaska, I really hope you enjoy your time here in AK!!! It's an experience you'll never forget. Although, you'll find its much more like Canada than America here. There is still a big patriotism with USA and AK flags hung almost everywhere you go.
If you have an adventurers spirit- I think you have to travel around the state as much as you can when you come; while our history museums are great, the nature sight seeing is unforgettable. seeing northern lights, hiking mountains, berry picking, visiting the ocean, fishing, skiing, seeing ice glaciers, try fresh fish like alaskan salmon & snow king crab, even see and eat reindeer and moose. drink glacier water. and learning about alaskan natives culture, to name some.
Anchorage is the biggest (in population) city in Alaska, with 300k people, and you can see the mountains from within the city. If you're a city girl, you won't get too homesick in anchorage, also there is lots of great korean restaurants there if you do. There isnt even one million people in all of Alaska, only 700k people in the whole state, much of AK is native/indigenous villages. Alaska is humongous and I truly believe my home is the most vast, diverse, and beautiful place in the world.
for an alaskan tip: meet as many native alaskans as you can, we have incredible stories and life-long lasting friendships,, and please stay safe as human-trafficking is very big in Anchorage so be sure to buy some self defense like pepper spray when you get here for just incase.
Congrats on getting into the exchange program and even though it's not your first choice- enjoy Alaska's natural beauty on your trip of a lifetime to many! 🌌🌲🫐🫎☃️🏔️🌆☀️

you're coming to America right as I"m leaving!! I can relate to how you're feeling, I got accepted to teach English through the JET program, I'm from somewhere that's super flat and far away from the ocean, so naturally I was placed in an area that's mountains everywhere and right on the ocean so I'm like??? how???? but as someone from "the middle of corn" I think Alaska is going to give you such a more unique experience than pretty much anywhere else in the US! from a vlogging/content creator standpoint it'll make you stand out so much more than cali or iowa, and hopefully it'll be fulfilling in your personal and academic lives as well!!

This is so exiting. I'm only doing a virtual exchange program in Finland's university, but eventually I wish to travel for real to do an exchange program. Alaska will be fun for sure. It's not just penguins there, though penguins are cute. There will be northern lights and gorgeous landscapes. Also just need to make sure you have proper clothing for the cold weather.
Congratulations on your acceptance to University of Alaska Darcie. Hope you enjoy the life there at the Uni and the United States. I would try to say hi in person, but I don't live in Alaska. Lol

Alaska is really spectacular, I would love to go there! I’m sure they will keep you warm. And there won’t be long walks outdoors to classes. Probably the buildings are close.

와 너무 도움되는 좋은 영상입니다. 저는 곧 미국으로 교환학생을 가야되는 상황이라 영어가 부족해서 급하게 이것저것 알아보다가
학원보다는 실전에서 써먹을 수 있는 연습이 필요할 것 같다보니 언어교환101 회화스터디 등록해서 주3회씩 다니고 있는데
확실히 외국인들이랑 실전에서 대화도 해보고 하니까 처음에는 어렵고 두려웠는데 환경이 이렇게 만들어지니 점점 늘어가는게 느껴지네요! 빨리 늘려서 영어 더 유창해지고 싶어요!
So I’m from California and I don’t know a lot about Alaska. But I get the impression that the state itself is pretty weird. It’s an American state, but it’s completely separate from the rest of the country. It’s not a very populated place because it’s a lot of land and the weather is bad. I’d say just be careful if you are going there. I can’t say I’ve heard a lot of great things about it.

Alaska is not bad, it’s very beautiful especially in the summer which you will get to experience for a bit. The coldest months are in November - February so you’ll be fine, don’t worry too much about it :)
Also, Moose’s Tooth has really good pizza so you should definitely give it a try when you get there
In terms of the weather, Anchorage is probably "warmer" than Fairbanks! Yeah, just make the most of it in UAA and it'll go by faster than you know it!!

As so many people say, Alaska is a place you don't usually think of in the US, but I'll say this. Being raised there for a few years and Being Tlingit (Native Alaskan), the Alaskan wildlife is absolutely beautiful. Your time there will be completely different from anything else you've experienced 100% guaranteed. First, the light there is always different depending on the time of year. For example, some days never have sunlight (or very little) and some days have 16+ hours of continuous sun depending on the seasons. Where I lived, wild berries grew abundantly, and were free for anyone to pick, a personal favorite of mine I'd recommend trying are Salmon Berries (named after their salmon colored body). There are some things you might want to buy to help regulate sleep cycles from personal experience though, such as Heavy wool window blinds/covers. Anyway, I'm so happy to hear you're going to try something new, extremely excited you chose my homeland for it too!
