Thank you SO MUCH for your video. After spending 6 hours trying to figure out why I didn't have and sound and after taking my radio back thinking it was a bad unit, I was able to resolve my no sound problem in 2 minutes after watching your video. THANK YOU!
Great video, I just wanted to add, Do NOT wire your amplifiers rem to the radios 12v constant( typically the yellow wire )! this will cause your amp to be on when the car is off and drain your battery.
Thank for you advice. But really need to know, after connected both blue/white wires of after market radio harness and adapter for my car, where can I hook up the remote turn-on wire from after market Amp to ? Or do I need a T connector or what? Thank for help again. Appreciated.
I’ve been looking for this video for about a year and have been holding off paying someone hundred quid for about 2 months to do it myself and save the money. Fully sorted now thanks a lot
Excellent video! I bought my wife a Land Rover Freelander which has a factory Harmon Kardon amp under the drivers seat that I didn't even know about. I installed a new head unit and speakers as factory replacements, using the correct (and only) Metra radio wiring adapter and dash kit. Head unit powered on, no sound. There's no mention of this in Crutchfield where I bought my adapters and connectors for this install so I did some internet digging and found out there's a hidden factory amp and it's obviously not powering on now. So thanks to this video and very detailed explanation and a schematic on another site showing the remote turn on pin for the factory amp, I am going to splice an inline fuse between the remote wire coming out of the factory amp plug and the rear 12V lighter adapter that sits at the back of the center console for rear passengers so it turns on when my key is on.
This is the most explained and detailed video I have watched, this is like 4 video in one and it was well explained. I'm new to adding a sounds system to my car and your videos absolutely helpful.
I just hooked up my remote wire to the 12v cigarette plug. Works fine since the plug is only on when the car is on. Just make sure to hook it up the the + terminal(the tip)... The remote wire just tells the amp when to turn on so it doesn't drain the car battery.
Thanks for making this video! I'm using an automotive class D amplifier for non-automotive use, and the instructions with the amp just said: "Connect the REM terminal to the remote control wire from the head unit with 18 AWG wire." Well, I don't have a head unit; I just needed to know what to do with the REM to turn the stupid thing on: tie to 12V? to Ground? to one or the other through a resistor? Thanks to your tutorial, I felt confident in connecting it directly to 12V, and it came up as expected. Thanks again for supplying information the manufacturer didn't see fit to include in the stupid manual!
Some dumbasses think that because they know one thing, it's a crime not to know what they know. That just means that you know one thing and the rest of your life is shit. Thanks for the educational video.
Yeah, I always hate it when people are condescending to me when I ask questions and am trying to learn something. I tend to not ask them any questions about anything again.
Isn't it better to connect the remote wire to a fuse (by using a fuse tap) if your factory stereo doesn't have a remote wire to connect to? Problem with connecting to acc or ignition is that you can get a surge of signal when you turn on your car to acc or ignition that could damage the amp and/speakers.
I did this and the wire got hot. But didn’t burn up and worked. Good thing I used solder and heat shrink. Also, when I connected the remote to antenna wire, my amp wouldn’t produce power to sub for first minute or so after each start up. But it works!
I know time has passed but for anyone else to see. The answer is "the less the better". I just hooked the one end of the remote turn-on wire on a 15A fuse [(which was for the radio) has 12v on ACC and IGN] on the passenger compartment fuse box.
So i bought my new deck and connected the blue white wire from the new deck to the wire harness i bought. I just bought an amp and i don't know where to connect the remote wire since the blue white is all ready connected to the wire harness. Should i connect all 3? Do i connect the blue white from the deck to the wire harness and also to the amp remote? I disconnected the blue white wire from the wire harness and just connected the blue white from the deck to the remote to the amp but my speakers wont work now. I'm thinking i need to connect all 3 wires together
Great Video. I just stumbled across it. I knew there was a different way to power the amp. Took my car to an audio shop to install my sub. I was told they couldn't find the ignition wire to power the amp on my 2019 X7. Nothing against the shop. They're old-school, as they were struggling with a 20 CTS. I will do the installation once I get the wiring diagram.
Hey, I have a quick question. I currently have 1 amp for 2 subwoofers. I want to add another amplifier for the mids and highs I will be getting soon. Will I need to run another remote turn on wire to that amp as well? Do I just split the blue/white wire into two so I have one for each amplifier? Sorry I'm new at this and I want to do it right.
I read on a forum that someone plugged their remote turn-on wire into their remote control jack! Yes it was a bare wire plugged into a jack but you still can't blame him for putting the REMOTE into the REMOTE lol... I think the terminology should be changed

Hey Al, If i connect the white-blue wire to the blue antenna wire and i don't listen to the radio can i go directly into the antenna 12v? or can i splice into the red ignition switch wire since it is not the constant. being that i dont have a factory amp power wire.
Hi good video!! question Can i connect two amplifiers and one epicenter to the same remote wire or is too much? So far i have connected two amps only and the lights inside dimm a lot when the base hits.
Can I just use one of them connectors that taps into that and connect the other wire at the end? Is that the only wire I need is just that one? Find the aftermarket radio aftermarket amp
On my head unit it is the red wire and also the orange one......all it does is power on the head unit when the vehicle is either started or put in accessory mode......One note is that your yellow constant power wire(to battery +) is running your head units clock, settings saving,etc...
This might sound like a stupid question but how do you hook up aftermarket door speakers to the amplifier? Do you just take the sound output of the amplifier to all the speakers? Many videos just explain how to hook up subs and when it comes to door speakers they say just to hook them up, not very helpful at all.
Both Blue and Blue/White wire has the text "Factory amplifier remote turn on" so you can wire the amplifier to either Blue or Blue/White? I am still confused.
If I'm trying to use my Ford Sync system and add an aftermarket amplifier, I can pull the radio out and, using a multi meter, find the wire that is 12 volt (switched) and tie into that? Originally I was going to tap into the speaker wires and use the high level inputs but have decided to use a pre-amp (equalizer) and will use a LOC instead. That requires me to run an antenna wire. I'm not a big fan of running a wire to a fuse in the fuse box.
Thanks for the video. Question... Is it possible to use an amps remote turn on wire to power other devices (splice into and wire off of the blue white wire)? I need constant power to a rear camera when the car is on and this remote wire is the only line i have run to the rear or my car.
I have a problem.. so when I put my remote wire and positive wire in the right place where they are supposed to go it doesn’t work but if I put my remote wire in the positive place and the positive in the remote wire place it works perfectly fine is this safe or no?
What does the Pink WIre the Says Back Connect to Ground or Positive ? The Back up Camera has 2 Blue with a White Stripe Wires ? What Do they Connect to Positive or Ground ? Thanks Terry
are you able to use the speaker positive as remote turn on? ive seen a few guys use it to connect to kicker hideaway amp/sub as the remote in and it work? Im asking as i will be using a Line out converter and want to use the positive speaker wire as the remote turn on for it. Thank you
So my Golf MK4 needs it's antenna amplified. But I only have a blue/white cable. Could I just try to hook the blue/white one on the an antenna amplifier? Would it keep giving 12v?
So given this blue white wire is hooked up. If the car stereo is hooked up to accessory power. You turn ignition off and remove key. It turns the stereo off. Does that turn off the amplifier too? Any chance of problems sometimes and that amp stays on? Because Im getting a battery drain somewhere . Im using an aftermarket unit with a harness adaptor hooked up the factory amplifier. EVerything works fine except for that battery drain.
If I have a factory head unit without a remote turn on wire, can I run the remote turn on wire from the amp to a light switch mounted in the cabin to remote turn on the amp?
Hey Alan, many thanks for posting this video bro! Day before a 14 hour drive to Lake Powell, I couldn't figure out WTF I did wrong to lose my amp and speakers. Worse yet, my old lady got all pissed off since she said from the outset to take it in and have the new deck installed. Just as I was giving up, I clicked on this video and had it fixed in 5 min!! You said accesories, is that the purple wire? It’s connected to something in my car, can i tap on that wire? would that not mess with the watever it is connected to?
So if run the remote wire from amp to the blue and white from the harness, what do i do with the blue and white cable on the harness adapter? Do i use some special connector rather than a but cap?
I have a double DIN ATOTO 6 and the only blue wire it has is a power antenna that's already hooked up to the harness. Should I wire the remote amp to that?
I have a 12cd changer in my van and I am not getting CD control at the radio switch and the changer is not selecting the CDs; I checked for continuity in the cable at the main pin which is bigger than the other pins, and I don't get any beeping on the meter, I suspect a bad cable....what does the main bigger pin do should I get power there if I connect to the radio and test?
What about a marine radio? I have two amps on my bike and i can turn the radio off but amps are on constantly except when ignition is off? Do i need to run a switch to turn amps off or am i wiring the system wrong? Thanks
I have a question regarding the remote wire. I was listening to my music and subs were hitting hard then all of a sudden my amp shuts off. I assumed the remote wire got loose maybe so i checked the remote wire being the unit and it was fine. No power to amp at all. So then i jumped the remote wire and the battery cable on the amo and it turned right on. The remote in back of my head unit would not turn it on. While it was bridged the music play and as soon as i turned it up the subs would cut in and out. I can't figure out what the problem is. Is it my remote wire not being connected to my head unit? It wouldn't power on that way for some odd reason. Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks All!
please tell us what solved your problem with your amp shutting down- was it a problem with you remote amp turnon wire as you suspected - your post was 2 years ago, but many have the same problem.
I am trying to test my amp and subs on a bench so will not have a car stereo, plan to run my phone to amp via RCA's. Question is, can I run a B+ wire (12Volts) into the amp remote input? My understating is the "blue" wire aka "remote wire" coming out of the vehicle's head unit is just a low current 12V output that uses common vehicle ground.
I have a car with the speaker wires completely removed and I'm trying to install a Raspberry Pi into my car with brand new speakers and an amplifier. I just want to know if the Remote Turn-on wire has to be hooked up to the factory wire or if I can connect it somewhere on GPIO of the Pi to make it work
If the remote turn on wire has to be hooked up from the head unit to the car, how do you then attach a amp to that? and do you know if this wire is the same color for japanese head units?
hey Allyn thanks for the great video. I have been trying to narrow down the cause of 'no sound' on my Lexus LS 460 mark levinson audio system is it the same principle as this or is there any other thing that I'm missing. Its still not delivering audio. Thanks again.
My factory radio doesn't have a remote turn on wire but it has an output called "acc. B+". According to what you said at the end of the video, it should work as a remote right?
Quick question... what if my harness doesn't have a remote wire and only a power antenna wire? My pioneer nex 4200 had blue/white but the harness does not. I saw someone connect blue/white with the red for power and it worked. Any suggestions?
This was the most helpful video I’ve found. Thank you so much. This was extremely detailed for people who aren’t super savvy with car stereos lol
Installing an amp today, this was the one step I missed 😂
Me too I killed my battery 😐
Me too. Amp wouldn’t turn on and I panicked about it for a hour and a half till I found this video . Ganna fix it in the morning
Same and I hope my battery is full tomorrow

This comment was very helpful now I have to disconnect what I just connected to the yellow wire
I was struggling to find a remote wire and hooked up to the antenna after watching this video!! Sub's are working!!!! Thank you!!!!
Yes, i was confused as my stereo has no remote wire. But it has antenna out, it should work.

can i use a power antenna wire for remote turn on of my amp? because my head unit doesn't have remote turn on wire.!
Yes if your turn the ignition on and test it with a test light and it lights up your good. Ythe remote wire is just a secondary power wire
I did this and for some reason my amp wouldn’t run my sub for the first minute or so after each start up
Can I use a blueremote wire as a negative wire to use on a toggle switch if I do not have black wire ?
Hi good video!!
question
Can i connect two amplifiers and one epicenter to the same remote wire or is too much?
So far i have connected two amps only and the lights inside dimm a lot when the base hits.
Can I just use one of them connectors that taps into that and connect the other wire at the end? Is that the only wire I need is just that one? Find the aftermarket radio aftermarket amp
So, is it internally connected to a 12V relay to connect power to the amplifier or is it a digital signal to switch a internal transistor/mosfet?
If your using a line out converter is it necessary to use a remote wire? If so can i run it straight to the battery?
Would if you wanted to have both the stock amp and the aftermarket amp running at the same time? Would you just splice into the amp turn on wire?
On my head unit it is the red wire and also the orange one......all it does is power on the head unit when the vehicle is either started or put in accessory mode......One note is that your yellow constant power wire(to battery +) is running your head units clock, settings saving,etc...
This might sound like a stupid question but how do you hook up aftermarket door speakers to the amplifier? Do you just take the sound output of the amplifier to all the speakers? Many videos just explain how to hook up subs and when it comes to door speakers they say just to hook them up, not very helpful at all.
So if I have both which one should I wire it to ?
So does the remote (blue white stripe) have to hook to the harness then to your aftermarket amp or just skip the hook to the harness to the amp?
Both Blue and Blue/White wire has the text "Factory amplifier remote turn on" so you can wire the amplifier to either Blue or Blue/White? I am still confused.
What if I wanna use a Factory amp And a aftermarket amp ? Do I just attach them both to the turn on wire?

If I have an aftermarket amp, what do I do with the blue/white wire on the wire harness? Do I just block it off?

I have a 12cd changer in my van and I am not getting CD control at the radio switch and the changer is not selecting the CDs; I checked for continuity in the cable at the main pin which is bigger than the other pins, and I don't get any beeping on the meter, I suspect a bad cable....what does the main bigger pin do should I get power there if I connect to the radio and test?
Can I connect all three together?

What about a marine radio? I have two amps on my bike and i can turn the radio off but amps are on constantly except when ignition is off? Do i need to run a switch to turn amps off or am i wiring the system wrong? Thanks
Do you have tutorial for intalling a kill switch to the amp?
Hi did you get am answer your question? I also want to know
Thank you for a very nice and clarifying video.
Thanks All!
playa4lifesd619 did you ever figure out what the cause was i have the same problem.
please tell us what solved your problem with your amp shutting down- was it a problem with you remote amp turnon wire as you suspected - your post was 2 years ago, but many have the same problem.
I also need help with this problem

My f250 wiring harness has an amplifier ground wire (16). Is that the trigger? Thank you.
My factory radio doesn't have a remote turn on wire but it has an output called "acc. B+". According to what you said at the end of the video, it should work as a remote right?
Did you figure it out?Mines is the same and I'm having a problem getting the amp to turn on
Quick question... what if my harness doesn't have a remote wire and only a power antenna wire?
My pioneer nex 4200 had blue/white but the harness does not. I saw someone connect blue/white with the red for power and it worked. Any suggestions?
