- How does one get a yellow stratocaster?
- Buy a white one and wait.

True I bought a used white strat. It looks like a banana laffy taffy.

There's a special color called Olympic white it's usually a little more just for the color

The fender sounds very clean while the ibanez has a smooth distortion sound
The Ibanez is very crisp, and is more diverse but a Fender is better at classic tunes and Bluesy type stuff
@@kaelebbare7041 Fender only isn't diverse if you have no imagination
@@happyhappy85 I wasnt saying that it's not diverse bc it is, i was saying that the Ibanez is a little more diverse
The ibanez is More like a rock guitar
yeah, thats defenitley due to the humbuckers
i’m a new to electric guitars cuz i’ve only been play acoustic for a few years, but from what i can hear, stray goes “doung doung doung” and ibenez goes “ern ern ern” :))
Definitely.
What????
I've been playing both for roughly 12 years now, and that's still a very accurate statement.
You are on glue!
Cuz
My dad has a Strat, and I have an RG.
Sometimes we play together, and it sounds so good, because of the 2 different sounds.
Fun Fact: His strat is worth around 5730$, because the paintjob was made incorrectly.
Fun Fact: My RG is worth less than it should, because I got it used, so it has some scratches.
Fun Fact: Nobody cares about what I just said.
can i have it pls
HyperJ Gaming which one?
HyperJ Gaming 5730$ for a month, that's more like a year.
HyperJ Gaming Now we're talkin'
remember, it's skill that counts not the price😉
I actually preferred the sound of the Ibanez! But then again, when I first got to play on an Ibanez guitar I was immediately sold... They feel so great, are really responsive and that neck.... SOOO smooth and thin... A joy to even just hold it!
I have a Jem. And when I sat down, it was like creativity sparked and I was in a better feel to start writing my own tunes.
Hey should I get a ibanez grx70qa gio
Iam the same way I have the Gio and the rg and they can play anything just matters who's behind it...
I have the rg470ahm. For it being a standard RG model it's great and if that's Ibanez standard I'm definitely going to be investing in a premium or prestige eventually. It's finish is killer the quantom pickups sound great dialed in correctly. Very responsive to gain but also having decent cleans. Overall it's one great deal 500$ RG vs a 1000$ American or Mexican strat. I can always upgrade tremelo and pickups down the road but as of now don't see a reason to as they do the job well. To me I think mainstream guitar brands in America better do something to make american instruments more affordable. I mean the RG Is literaly a super strat. With so many great guitars being made outside of America for prices that are are half or a 1/3 of the American counterpart.
Totally with you there, the Ibanez seems to have a richer tone, they are superlight, and just.. Awesome!! Was at a resort when I was 16 and they had a local artist "playing" for entertainment, and after heckling him a lot, he gave in and let me play his Ibanez for the restaurant for 30 minutes!! Such an amazing instrument!
My little bit opinion, if playing by genre
Blues : Fender's win
RockNRoll : Fender's win
Heavy Metal : Ibanez win
Underground : Ibanez win
Agreed
Agreed. It explains why lots of off brand electric guitars choose HB-Single-Single, to get the best of both. Humbucker at bridge for metal and solos. The singles for blues and rock. But real guitarists just want more guitars don't they :-D
@@philpreston3072 nice opinion 👍
Disco: Fender wins
@@mv9787 hahaha I'm biased forsure so I can't say much other than there's nothing like that single coil fender twang
I am 47 y/o who just picked up my guitar again. I bought a used ibenez and a small peavy amp. My son who is 17 started learning to play guitar from you tube videos. Thank God for these tutorials. I am inspired once again at playing guitar. It's never too late to learn how to play guitar. So to all the viewers out there I like to shout out: if you make and effort to want to learn how to play, after awhile it seems like your fingers starts to become coordinated. its awesome learning guitar intros...its very satisfying. It's good for stress relief.
Excellent comment, thank you! And so, what model guitar do you have?
If you like bright warm tones for playing rock n roll and blues, Strat it is. If you like dark tones for hard rock and metal, get yourself a Ibanez
Clinical
Yes this! I own a 1986 fender strat and I'd totally agree with this.
Energy Man Funny enough I don't own either. I have a shitty Walmart guitar to play. I just watch a lot of guitar videos and know a decent amount about guitar. Only started 7 months ago, I'm not too good but I know a good amount of stuff.
And if you want it even darker get a SG :))..... I have an Gibson SG and an Ibanez RG...... My SG is way way hotter than the Ibanez, but the Ibanez is quite a shredding machine, something i can't do on the SG no matter how much I try :D...
thanks m8 straight to the point and concise .
Krom1hell Well you know a lot of a guitar's sound is in the pickups. I'd suggest putting some Seymour Duncans or Bareknuckles in that RG you got.
This guitars are not worse or better just are different. both are fantastic!
Correct if you want the performance of both just get a gibson Les Paul. The £600 one is very nice very deep rock like the Ibanez and a beautiful tone with warm essence for everything else it's an all round guitar. Unless your perticular but rather then spend £500-£600 on a strategy then £500-£600 on Ibanez get half price. But they are all beuitful and one day hope to own a bit of all.
I just got an ibenz
@@jakedecrem2386 les paul is uncomfortable for the edges and it's very weightly
Jake De Crem Les Paul doesn’t sound like a Strat., is too heavy, and the shape is uncomfortable. Additionally they don’t stay in tune and with their short scale length they’re not really in tune when they are in tune.
@@jakedecrem2386 I had Les Paul... Now I own Fender Strat and Ibanez foe heavy duty.
It's really hard to compare two guitars with such different pickups, single coil for Strato, humbucker for Ibanez. They simply sound different first for that reason. I believe the main difference between the two gears is in how they are built. The flat neck in the Ibanez affect the action which can be very low and allow more speed in execution, especially in genres like metal.
The exact response I was looking for thanks !
Ibanez does have one advantage over the fender and that is it is easier to play at the bottom of the neck
I think the Jem's neck that I have is easier to play the whole board. Harmonics are cleaner. The trem system is rocket fuel for creativity.
2 ADVANTAGES IT HAS 2 MORE FRETS & IN MY EXPERIENCE THE UPPER REGISTER IS WAY BETTER ON THE RG!
It has several advantages actually. For one, if you get an Ibanez made in Japan (like Darrell's), the quality will be better than the MIA Strat.
If you're into heavy trem use, the Ibanez far exceeds the Strat.
Tuning stability - Ibanez
Versatility - Ibanez. Though it's very easy to add humbuckers to a Strat.
Having said that, I love my Strats. Five hanging on the wall, and I think 4 in the closet.
For me the 24th fret of the strat is too difficult to reach 🤪
If y’all can get your hands on a Yamaha rgx211 or rgx series mines is mid 80s my uncle has a 62 strat he let me play it for a good 3 months and it was butter smooth felt like a 20k guitar but this Yamaha I picked up for 75 bucks gives me that smooth butter feeling highly recommend
this is how a comparison should be made
Sir Snek: I absolutely agree
Agreed 👍
First time viewer, but aside from the comparison, can we just talk about how talented this guy is??
Lets talk
Sure is
I agree his playing is really good, he gets a beautiful sound with great feel.
crying in the cafeteria I'm 47 y/o I self taught myself when I was 21 years old. Then I quit learning thinking it was difficult to learn. I was wrong. I just bought me an ibenez... I been learning from you tube videos. It's awesome!!!! I know I could become as good as this guy with putting in my effort everyday.
Milton Deal this dude is your studio musician. Learned pentatonic scales and all but one thing is missing!! What is missing is feeling and emotion coming through!! Nothing there but the notes picked and played correctly!! A player like this is great for studio sessions and I am not knocking his excellent guitar playing at all!! I am just saying he would not make it in a famous group because that takes extreme emotion and a connection that comes from the spirit within!! Check out keebonk shower curtain jam. You will see what playing with the spirit is without ever learning any legitimate scales at all, this is me!!
The Strat has a more natural, traditional sound, and is a bit twangier.. While the Ibanez has a more modern, metallic sound to it, and more of droney sound. Both great instruments.
When i heard the ibanez i was filled with happiness and warmth literally the most beautiful thing ive ever heard
I wonder what Jimi Hendrix would have done with an Ibanez with a Floyd Rose set up ?
We would have built temples and statues in his honor.
I always say Hendrix would LOVE a F.R. bridge. He constantly was tuning even during songs as he used(abused) that Strat of his.
Hendrix of all people would love a F.R.
Melt your face.
Whatever he wanted to do.
As a beginner, these are my observations which might affect your decision as a beginner reading this:
I think the Strat sounds better for stuff like Blues and Jazz and all the clean stuff. The Ibanez on the other hand sounds great and cleaner with rock and metal sounds.
I’m a beginner who is currently learning on mostly acoustic, but I’m also looking at both of these models for my first electric. I’m definitely more into the hard rock & metal side of playing when it comes to electric guitars, so this was great to know. Thanks.
@@savedbyJesusgirl93 I've started half a year ago on an acoustic guitar from my dad's friend. A few months ago I decided to buy a squier (from Fender) they're nice to start with! I'm also considering buying one of the Ibanez because I'm more into metal & rock. Out of my experience my fender(/squier) doesn't really fit with that kind of music as i wanted it.. If you see this and your Ibanez is with u, how is he to play rock & metal? Thanks!
I have an Ibanez GIO and yeah it plays better for rock music. The tone for it is better. But in my opinion you need the right amp for it or a pedal.
Fender = Classic tones
Ibanez = More diverse and can get more modern tones
Both = different and are good guitars to my ears in this video
I thought the Ibanez had a fuller sound. Which I prefer. I have an Ibanez, although way cheaper and I really like the flat fret board. It's a double humbucker with fixed bridge. This red one is on my shortlist. Because of the HSH and the tremolo. I wouldn't mind a Jem either :)
I agree, Ibanez is a good all rounder bc it has a crisp sound, and can sound rather good in all category of guitar played music whereas a Fender is better than the Ibanez at only classic tunes and maybe some "bluesier" stuff
The humbuckers do make the Ibanez have more output but I love the sound of the strat so much more.
As long as you get to play i don't see any problems
Fender strat forever!!!
Tradition - fender
Innovation - ibanez
How is Ibanezw innovation this guitar is just a superstrat nothing new about it
@@likeabumblebee to be fair the strat design will be pushing 80 years soon where the superstrat is pushing 40, the guitar companies really innovating these days arent really the big brands. keisel and strandburg are killing it in innovation though.
@@theguynamedgio what about manson ? :p
Love their kaos pad
@@nathang1184 i think it's neat but they're not the first guitar company to put a synth pad onto a guitar and as far as the actual guitars go, they aren't using new bridge and fret designs that improve tuning stability and intonation. Ergonomics is also a more consistent factor these new companies are bringing up. Right now a huge aspect with guitars and what people are asking for is something built like a rock that is easy to lug around.
@@likeabumblebee i mean a price like that for such a decent sounding guitar is really an innovation
One thing That doesn't come across is just how fast those ibanez necks are to play on. You can also bend quite a bit more before choking the note out due to the flatter radius. I have owned a few strats in my time (though not as good as this US one) and currently own the same RG as tested here, and I find the RG by far the most versatile, for all genres. They're defintely not just for metal.
They could really do with coil taps for for the front and back though, just to get that single coil sound, but thats not too hard a mod.
Obviously guitar choice is a very personal and often emotional choice, so if all your heroes play strats and you simple love how they look and sound, then thats the guitar for you. Me, I'm stoked with my RG, it's the best instrument I've ever owned.
Position 4 and 5 on the strat are so distinctive and iconic. Not many other guitars can emulate those tones.
That's exactly it..And you can go from so much treble end to such a warm low end. So many guitars there is barely a difference.
Really great comparison -- in your solos they both sound amazing but the Fender is clearly overall brighter with more pronounced treble, while the Ibanez has a slightly thicker, darker tone with very smooth distortion. During the comparison that difference was especially noticeable in the #5 position, but they actually sound almost identical when both in the #3 position. The Ibanez never attains that jangly, twangy sound the Fender can do, but IMO distortion sounds much richer on the Ibanez.
Lastly, I just wanted to compliment your great playing in the solos. Really masterful stuff, and the type of music that I dream of playing someday.
Fender is sucks
@@nazirnajarin3014 what 🤡🤡
First time watching this in 2020 lol. And wow has Darrell progressed and expanded in impressive ways! Always be proud of yourself!
Let me know which guitar you think sounded best, and which you felt was most versatile!
I owned an Ibanez RG-2550 prestige with edge zero floyd : awesone build quality as you said, awesone design, but flat sound, no personality.
Since 2012 I play a Strat MIM Classic player 60, and it's my favorite guitar, best feelings and sound. I tried american models (standard, deluxe, vintage) which are good instruments but not convincing (for me and my guitar level) regarding the price gap.
Hmmm..the Ibanez in my opinion..but thatt is not to say anything bad about strats, love em but I just think that the Ibanez is more versatile all round.
Hi Darrel, from which tune is the slow blues lick at 4:11?
+Luuk Davidsz No, that's one that I made up for the video, but it definitely had some classic blues licks incorporated into it :)
Haha Ok thanks for the quick reply, i'm happy to hear it is made up. I am currently in the process of publishing a track that has similar feel en exactly the same first notes haha.
as an 1990 rg550 owner, I really like the sound of strat. But it is very subjective to pick one of them as good or satisfiying. To me both guitars should be owned.
I swear to God the neck pickup of a strat is the most heavenly tone I've ever heard on a guitar.
Have to agree hands down my go to position unless I'm playing something that needs proper position
specially when toned little bit down with gain on it, adding some little reverb for smooth
Strat neck is and always will be the greatest guitar tone ever. Nothing quite reaches the same level to my ear.
Blackstone
I used to dislike strats mostly for ergonomic reasons. But I played one exclusively for a few months to force myself to adapt and now I’m digging it. Takes time.
Absolutely.
For blues pop and jazz, the fender is the one to choose. For modern rock, metal and instrumental soloing improvisation, the ibanez is definitely the one to have. I have an Ibanez RG 1120 prestige, i play everything with it. The kind of amp does also a lot to the impression of the sound. Ibanez sound is more sharp and edgy, while the fender has a more darker deeper with more bass tone to it. Comes down to your preference. Both makes make great quality products
If you watch more of DBG's videos, you will find that electric guitars are much more versatile then you ever thought-regardless of make/model.
He showed the versatility of the Tele in one of his videos, and it blew me away.
Which video?
Both guitars sounded great to me. Darrel your playing was excellent. I enjoyed this clip immensely. I wouldn't choose one guitar over the other. I already have a Strat and a PRS double cut away. Now, I'm really considering getting an RG. Don't know why. Can only play one at a time. And I barely get that done.
The masterpiece starts at 9:13, i cried listening to this

+joel renteria So sorry! Some people just suck! 😔
Glad to have you on the channel ☺👍
Great comparison, I own an Ibanez and a strat, I love both. Great chops man! Loved every moment :)
Both these guitars are good and worth considering, and would do most jobs well. The tone differences are almost night and day; everybody knows subjectively what sounds better through their own ears for one's favorite style or genre. I suppose the 2 and 4 switch positions on the RG help you get closer to a Strat tone when you want. Going super fast on a Strat neck is a challenge for many players but obviously possible. However I noticed the Ibanez was not holding you back when you wanted to go on fast runs or tap. Newer players will probably develop speed and mobility for lines quicker on the RG due to the neck's slim/wide profile and flatter radius. IMO you also generally get more for your money with Ibanez given this choice today. Definitely works a bit better for my favorite music too. Good job sir, nice demo.
The Ibanez RG-series guitars are tough to beat for "bang for your buck" and overall tonal versatility. I'm partial to the MIJ RG550's and RG570's.
I've been playing a lot of Mayhem and Megadeath lately and maaaan I want an Ibanez!!! My Jaguar and Telecaster sounds great, but I think an Ibanez will hit that sweet spot haha. Keep rocking my man and looking forward to more videos!
They sound different and they are both nice but the Fender gets my vote.
Amen. There's a reason why all my guitars are Fenders.
Good thing they haven't made anything worth a shit in 25+ years. Lmao at the Iron Maiden/Clapton arguments. I'm a fan of both BTW, but this is a hilariously weak argument.
Real guitarists branch out. I've got Les Pauls, Strats, Telecasters, Ibanez across 6-7 ranges. They're all fantastic guitars which produce dramatically different tones. But hey, keep playing that same old crap and never branching out.
IMO real guitarists play because they love to play. who gives a shit what they use. I've got a collection too, but I have 2 stage guitars. A Mayer custom strat and a PRS custom 22, between those and the rest of my rig, I can literally play everything from Kieth Urban to Dream Theater. But yeah, buy a ton of guitars so someone can call you a real guitar player. lol
How do u like the les Paul?
The Strat sound is so tasty, I like the percusivness of it in the melodic section, the Ibanez has a smoother transition from note to note, in the clean section the Strat destroys everything maybe except for hollow Gretsch guitars.
Israel D Well said!
The Strat is a little stiffer and fights back a little, the Ibanez plays like butter , very forgiving , it practically plays itself.
I agree as to ya ace! groove on each guitar
I agree with others who say, both guitars are fine, they are just different. Overall the Strat has a brighter, more robust treble sparkle, in every position. The Ibanez has a warmer sound, less treble, less sparkle, which in some music sounds better. Because I love the brilliant treble or sparkling treble much like a Telecaster, I would probably opt for the Strat, but hey, it's obvious the Ibanez is beautifully built, and probably more technically engineered overall, especially their tremolo system. Both are wonderful guitars, which brings us back to the beginning, they are both great, just a slightly different presentation. If they were played on stage, no one would have anything bad to say about either one. Personally I have never given Ibanez a second thought, and after this demo, I think I was VERY WRONG, it's a beautifully designed instrument. My compliments on this particular RUclips presentation, it was perfectly executed, a truly GREAT comparison, perfectly volume matched levels, a very, very good comparison video indeed.
Could you perhaps tell me what one I should use for classic rock like queen?
@@OPquaver definetely strat....the ibanez is more for like an AC/DC or Metallica kind of guitar

What a great review type! back to back tone followed by 1min solos with great guitar shots! Thank you for you work! Please keep up!
My older brother always preferred to play heavy metal with Ibanez, I don't feel any difference because I'm a layman, but he was a professional musician.
I like the fender the most, it's sounds so sharp and awesome.
Let me preface this by saying I am not a professional. What I heard was the Strat sounds better when doing chords. It has a rich warm and bright duality. The Ibanez while sounding a bit flat in chord single note picking and fingering was clear as a bell and slicker. The take away: if you like blues, classical or classic rock the Strat is the clear choice but if you are a metal head (like myself) you have to go with the Ibanez. Thanks for the vid it was really cool!
+Benjamin Stegeman No problem! I'm glad you enjoyed the comparison 👍
Benjamin Stegeman I could play blues all day long on an Ibanez.
@955rocket i agree
When I heard the slow blues riff on the fender it sent shivers down my spine. It was so warm.
I have both. IMHO, both are great. To me it's a "pick the right tool for the job" kind of thing. Can't beat the Strat for blues. And can't beat those wizard necks for shredding, and or heavy metal.
The ibanez sounds better than I was expecting. The strat has balls tho, the ibanez sounds much thinner in comparison. Great video and playing by the way!
+Matt Dickey Thanks Matt 😀
The Strat seemed to be better to my ear on my surround computer speakers,or I'm just a Strat kinda guy so my ears might be biased? LOL
I liked your comment because you acknowledged that you might be biased. As might I be, I preferred the ibanez, though i do have an RG from the 2016 range sat right next to me :') I'm not a fan of single coils really :')
I love the sound of both but I definitely prefer the strat when it comes to blues and clean tones. The Ibanez excels in more melodic solos for me, it is has an amazing bright tone! This is coming from someone who only owns a telecaster, looking into adding an Ibanez into the mix though as the telecaster can be a bit limiting with shredding and solos using the top frets.
Strat is very hard to beat. The chime and clarity is unparalleled.
and yet here it is: beaten

+Cpt.RATTL3S 😄 Nice!
Overall, I liked the sound of the Fender Stratacaster best. It had that full, robust sound that appeals to my ears.
The Ibanez sounded nice too, but it wasn’t my favorite.
An RG was one of my first guitars. It was the first I bought. I was never super impressed by the tone. I bought a cheaper Jackson that sounded much better with the SD pickups and I later switch the bridge to a Dimebucker. It was excellent at that nasty Metal, high gain, shredding tone but also still had a nice set of warm single coils. I have never touched the RG. It was a friends that died and just never had the heart. I bought it from his Mom knowing it was his favorite but if I had to change anything it would be the pickups.
Younger me liked ibanez for its precision. But older me likes the strat for its personality and glassy tone
ThyChrysanthemum my experience also!
ThyChrysanthemum ...but I own both now.
Same, also used to think, strats are so... Normal.... Now I can't get enough of them
Slow Blues with that Ibanez was one of the most vocal guitar sounds I have ever heard. SO rad.
You sir get extra props simply because you played riffs from “ Virtuality“ by Rush as well as a great riff from Dream Theater! 👍🏻😎
All guitars sound beautiful when you play Couldn’t Stand The Weather on it
great sound from both however i prefer the ibanez over the strat, which seemed to have a slightly fuller tone (for my aged ears anyway) Versatility probably goes to the strat....because its a strat
Actually versatility goes to the Ibanez because it has both humbuckers and single coils.
I really like the warmth of the Ibanez. The Fender sounds a little too crisp and bright in comparison for my taste.
We have the same taste.
The Ibanez on the "slow blues" sounds similar to a Les Paul.
You're a very entertaining musician. Great review. The Fender is for making love. The Ibanez is for making trouble. Both are great at what they do. It's good to hear the comparisons in this format. Thank you.
For me...its the matter of the look and the feel, both sound fantastic as their own character ❤️🔥
The guitar playing is fantastic. So many people on youtube are just noodling or trying to play un-melodic notes strung together as quickly as they can. There is beautiful melody in your playing and I love the groove in the rythmic chops. I am going to re-watch this to pick up some playing tips. (Oh by the way I liked the Strat tones better, though I admit the Ibanez might have better playability)
+Paul Lee Thanks!
I appreciate the kind words ☺
I bought an Ibanez SG in 1978 for 800 guilders and at the time very expensive. Over 40 years later it is by far the best guitar I ever did buy.
Your videos are alwas great Darrel, and this one shows how lucky we are that there are great guitars with great and different sounds. In my opinion, a traditional strat has its own distinct sound which you can only get with traditional 3 x single coils, how ever, the new Ibanez Quantum pickups did infact surprise me, in position 2 (mid single coil + bridge humbucker coilsplit) you get a much better single coil and strat reminding sound that with the old INF serie pickups. Would be nice to have a blind folded comparison with a Fender Strat and Ibanez RG with Quantum pickups.
"Which is quite amazing for the *price point* "
-Goes into the interwebs to find out the price...... over $1200
-Dies.
Tbh that's the price for a decent-enough professional or enthusiast electric guitar
ZameGaming I mean yeah but like I’d much rather get a solar guitar at that point and just go for like an s1.6
Worth every penny.
How about, " I just prefer the Strat sound?"
I started with a Fender Strat, which I still really love, but as I'm a girl with very small hands I decided to invest in an Ibanez Mikro Bass and more recently a Gio Mikro Electric. Yes, they are not quite the same quality as the Fender, but given how inexpensive they are, they really are great value for money and still great instruments :)
Good comparisons. I have both a 1973 Strat and Ibanez gs450 from 1999-2000. I will say the Strat body is fantastic solid maple blonde finished. I will say the Ibanez neck is an excellent, precision, expanse of goodness.
Super comparison proving the RG is a fantastic value for any level of player.
Overall I liked the tone of the Ibanez better. It did seem that the Fender did tonics better though.
Tonic is not a quality of instrument or playing, it's the root note in a composition. Nothing to do with a guitar.
kevindlinc Yes harmonics
From my point of view, the fender starcaster has a clearer and brighter sound compared to the ibanez.
That makes the RG better for rawer, punchier sound such as that of Thrash Metal.
I quit comparing different makes of guitar a long time ago. I use the guitar that looks cool to me and plays great which is Ibanez. I had a Squire that I loved but I always picked my Ibanez up to play 90% of the time. It felt more natural to play and got the tone I wanted with very little adjustments to my amp or the guitar. My Squire, I had to mess with to get the sound I wanted and never got it exactly.
The strat would be so more awsome if that volume knob was not so close to the bridge pup.
I was of that same opinion after moving from a Gibson Les Paul to an Ibanez Destroyer X Series as main guitars. But I learned to see the advantage in it and adapted to it. With a tube amp, by adjusting the volume on my Custom Shop Relic Strat, I can go from immensely clean to super dirty without touching anything but the guitars controls... while playing rhythm or leads. The volume position allows it to happen.
I HEAR IT'S GREAT FOR PINKY SWELLS TOO. It does not work for me because I play by the bridge and whether it's clean or dirty I play it wide open with both volume and tone knobs set at ten. I replaced it with tele knobs.

I use the Volume a lot and it does not have to be as close as on a Strat to do that (unless you have very small hands maybe).
I'd also say it's way too close and it's hindering or even impossible when I try to play the higher strings muted.
It really bugs me that everybody who does Strat copies always precisely sticks to the original design instead of making variations/improvements.
DerEchteBold Hell yeah!
But even with it's flaws the Strat design seems to be the best sort of guitar ...by far! Maybe it sounds so good because of the flaws? Maybe they're so reluctant to alter the neck joint because it drastically messes with the sound ...but I guess a different Volume knob placement wouldn't make that much tonal difference ; )
I have a Harley Benton Strat copy for 111 Euro(!) and it totally blows away all mid-priced instruments I ever played or owned!
Should use a strat with humbuckers for this comparison instead of the single coils. Both are fine guitars though.
I remember how I picked my first guitar. I went in to shop and checked everything in my price range. At the end, I've checked Ibanez S521 MOL... and it was insane. For me, those guitars are the only way. Strat is nice, but Ibanez generates best feelings in my head.
Great upload, thank you !
Keep up a good work.
Love the Ibanez S series too.
For me, on this video the strat sounds much more brightly than ibanez
The strat.... by far....!!
Although there is nothing wrong with a nice Ibanez..Strats just straight up do things and make sounds other guitars just cant do..
Agree, the strat sparkles.
agreed fender made history and ibanez made cheap wood
My guessing is that you'd think that you were deaf all of your life and suddenly your hear all the beautiful variations of sound
Yeah, Strats are my favorite guitars. I love my Les Paul but my Strat is my go to...
ibanez shined alot more in the solo sections
I love that Ibanez, beautiful finish
LOL, been watching your channel recently and decided to look at this older one - I can see the evolution. Thanks for the channel.
What's better, orange or tomato?
I love to eat them both ;)
rottingemptiness Damn, I am getting hungry again ;)

+aleaallee meh.. fender yngwie for metal and ibanez js and jem for jazz fusion
So inspiring and what a fantastic guitarist you are! Thank you for this video. :-)
Seven Years later...and this is still super informative and enjoyable. Watch Darrell's Superb videos on the best aftermarket 'improvements' for your Vibrato / Tremolo if you need to up your tuning stability to another level. Some of us love vintage trems, I get it, and so does David Gilmour.
The fender guitar got a deeper sound so it sounds absolutely great for blues and jazz.
but it sucks in metal or hard rock.
Anyways Metal/Rock - Ibanez, Blues/Jazz - Fender
Neos Neoson Fender could still kick ass on hard rock with a proper setup.
Neos Neoson add a hot rail for the bridge pickup and the strat kicks ass for metal. or add humbuckers.
but you'd need to redesign for the hamburger. you know cut out a socket for it.
AJ Ubana Hard rock is not heavy, when i say heavy i mean genres like Deathcore, Black Metal, Melodeath and many more
Neos Neoson may I refer you to yngwie malmsteen and Sabaton, both use strats
The fender strat has loads more character for me,the ibanez although a very well made high tech guitar sounds more generic to me,,if you fit a good humbucker to a strat and sperzel locking machine heads its the complete workhorse guitar for me,,thats why i have one lol,,great comparison video !
You make excellent video comparisons DB. I liked the Ibanez over the Strat. The Ibanez has a quality that is difficult to describe. More character, more dimension. The strat sounded more flat. So yeah, quit saying *yeah*.
I'm forever hooked on the floating Floyd rose and the wizard neck and locking trem. Nothing compares to that combo.
Can't talk bad about the strat. But my Jem is an alien being, that's what I think. I will never play anything else but my Jem!
I've been playing off and on a few years, when i first started i held the guitar left handed but I've learned to play right handed instead. It's difficult being left handed in this cruel world.
Nah. Actually, your strong hand is on the fretboard, when you think about it.
I'm a lefty, but most leftys are actually dexterous, and not strictly left-handed.
Comes from living in a right-handed world.
Keep rocking!
single coils are really good in clean sounds and humbuckers are for dirty..
Watched this comparison Video for the second time now , as I am looking to buy one or the other. I've been playing for over 40 years . Being some what old school it's hard for me to side with the Ibanez. I get it, the fast neck, the floyd rose, the hummbuckers . Definitely a metal shredders dream. Personally I know the strat is more challenging to master. But once you have ? Nothing can touch the sound quality & versatility. In my opinion , most of the Ibanez models need that crunch / distortion to shine. Which is ok as well. But played clean or with a little dirt . The word tin can comes to mind. Never the less I will prob buy one of each.
Thanks for the video .. appreciate it , opened up my eyes . Keep on making videos Darrell , enjoyed watching it. Keep on rocking.
Thanks for a great comparison!
+Andy Horka 😀👍
That's NOT a "Floyd Rose" on that Ibanez. It's not even a "Licensed By Floyd Rose" tremolo. Ibanez has had their own line of tremolos since the late 80's. They used Floyd Rose on their low end models but most models now use a version of the Ibanez "Edge" system. In my opinion, Edge blows FR out of the water. Better quality in metal, craftsmanship, tune, tone, sustain and looks.
i agree
however, edge is Floyd Rose original design
haxter3 Yes but, Ibanez re-engineered it and no longer uses the Floyd Rose patent. That's how much better it is. Calling an Edge a FR is like calling a Big Mac a Whopper. Both are burgers but preferences are different. Edge and FR are both "tremolos" but are in no way the same. So, any time I hear someone calling an Edge a FR I have to speak up!
but still Floyd Rose start the double locking tremolo design and their design are the best compare to kahler
haxter3
Yes, FR did but, hey, someone improved on the idea so, I will take an "Edge Lo-Pro" please! Thank you. Best trem ever!
Very clear review huge thanks 🙏🙇
yupp :D Ibanez rocks! :D
I know this video has been around a while now but I thought I’d still offer two cents: they call guitars like the RG “super Strats” for a reason. I own a G&L S-500 and a Jackson Soloist because the Stratocaster doesn’t quite get it for me; certainly not when there are other guitars at the same price point that can do the same thing and sooooo much more!
