Perfect perfect analogy, I get a donut maybe once a month, last month, I started buying one every other week. I want to get one every week. Before it was really really special and I so enjoyed it. Less often is better for me.
I brush my cat when she's chillin' on the coffee table or someplace else 'til she looks around; she's a shorthair so I don't brush her that often. Sometimes she just gets finger combing. I leave her alone when she's sleeping. When I need her to be someplace, I'll toss crumpled paper that direction. She's got some hidey holes around the house, tho' the one under the lamp table that has a curtain of fabric over it isn't used much. She's gotten better at coming when I call. I tell her "Good girl, good girl, Muggsi Blanche" when she's someplace that's ok to be, when she nudges my hand or rubs against my legs. I also tell her "No ma'am, no ma'am when she's someplace she shouldn't be and "Good girl! Good girl, Muggsi Blanche!" when she turns and walks away.
I have been moving things around, trying to get things organized in a comfortable way I have very little space. But before I did, this, I put up on the walls places for the cats to go, which are theirs. These do not move. They really appreciate it and I can see why I start moving things around. That’s where they go. I always pay attention to body language of a cat. I have autism, so it’s easy. I can also feel tension from a cat.
Just watching this... Suddenly thought I'd forgotten to give the cat her medication... Got up to get it... Remembered that I HAD given it to her... And stood barefoot, (OF COURSE!) in a puddle of cold cat sick! Seems fairly fitting!
Apart from treats (My cat gets those on a schedule and knows it) I'm happy to say i'm not messing up too badly. Short grooming sessions, not getting in her face while she sleeps, no scruffing ever and always give her at least a moment or two of interaction when she wants it when i'm busy. I have discovered that it's better to walk away for a moment then come back, rather than chase. My method for doing something necessary but unwelcome with my cat is to keep it very casual, put whatever I will need (meds usually) in a convenient place first then approach her in a relaxed way, pet her a bit then move her to where the meds are and quickly do what's needed. She's intelligent enough to recognise a tube or pipette in my hand and will scoot off if I walk towards her holding anything suspicious.
DON'T CLIP YOUR CATS CLAWS, You MONSTER!!! Holy cow, why the hell are people STILL doing this gruesome mutilation to cats???!! Are you freaking out of your mind? How would YOU like it of someone cuts off your fingertips? Cat claws are sensitive and essential parts of a cats paw. Cutting it off hurts them and is damaging their body. For crist sake STOP DOING THAT!!!!

Donuts only when I have to work the weekend and stop to pick up a cup of coffee...my treat for not getting to sleep in....

I have had two cats that love to run away, look back, and expect you to chase them. It's play time! 😊
