In this video lesson we 're going to practice how to start a conversation in real scenarios in English. (Spoken English)
Let's dive into some common greetings used in spoken English!
Greetings are essential for initiating conversations and establishing rapport with others.
It's vital to keep in mind that the appropriateness of the greetings may vary depending on the context and relationship with the person you're speaking to. It's essential to choose a greeting that matches the situation and level of formality required.
Therefore I will breakdown this lesson into 4 parts

3. How to select the appropriate greeting based on whom you're talking to
4. Greetings for professional situations

1. Hello: This is a universal greeting used in both formal and informal situations. It's versatile and can be used with anyone, whether it's someone you know well or someone you're meeting for the first time.
2. Hi: Similar to "Hello," "Hi" is another casual and friendly greeting used in various contexts. It's suitable for both formal and informal settings.
3. Hey: This is a very informal greeting typically used among friends, family members, or in casual situations. It's often accompanied by the person's name or a friendly gesture.
4. Good morning/afternoon/evening: These are more specific greetings that are typically used during particular times of the day. "Good morning" is used in the morning, "good afternoon" from noon until evening, and "good evening" in the late afternoon or evening.
5. How are you?: This is a common way to inquire about someone's well-being. It's a polite and friendly greeting that shows you're interested in the other person's welfare. Common responses include "I'm good, thank you," or "I'm doing well, how about you?"
6. What's up?: This is a casual and colloquial greeting used among friends or acquaintances. It's often used to start a conversation or to check in on someone's current situation.
7. Long time no see: This greeting is used when you haven't seen someone in a while. It's a friendly way to acknowledge the time that has passed since your last encounter.
8. How's it going?: Similar to "How are you?", this greeting is a casual way to inquire about someone's well-being or current situation. It's often used among friends or acquaintances.
