I'll be honest, man. I used to compete downhill skiing at insane speeds. I've surfed double overhead breaks. Learning to drop is the scariest thing EVER. Still don't have the nerve, yet. Awesome lesson! I'll get there!

Smart small and wear pads. It looks scary, but I promise that you'll be fine. If you happen to mess up, you'll fall down a bit and get right back up. Falling isn't scary if you know how to bail properly.
@@SkateparkLessons I’m glad I saw this video cause ima start with the small steps first. And I already kinda practiced on flat ground but I’ll work my way up for sure!

Thank you so much for this video. After watching this video last night, i moved up from a 3 ft drop in to a 4ft and then 5ft this morning. From being inconsistent to being way more comfortable as well.
Great tip about keeping part of the back foot off the board so the wheels don't start rolling too early on the bank. That was key for me to build confidence with commiting my weight forward. I did 100+ reps on banked surfaces. Finally tried on a small quarter pipe today and dropped in no problem!
I know what the guy was feeling.... Tuesday I did my first drop in 4 ft bowl.... amazing feeling of freedom !!! Congrats for the awesome channel JB, and for sharing your knowledge with all of us!!!
Wow, and all in one day! This leaves me speechless. I am still in the process of learning this, as I need hundreds of repetitions to get confident I am ready for the next step.
Just discovered this channel...not one that usually comment on youtube videos, but your support and positivity is amazing. Your good vibe while passing knowledge extends to the student and it's a joy to see the excitement of a successful first drop in.

Thank you for this video! Great explanations and your student was very very brave! I am a beginner skater and trying to learn to drop in on beginner ramps. Someone taught me to use the beginner ramp like you suggested as a first step. I was able to do it and I want to practice more until I get enough confidence to go to the beginner quarter pipes.
Thanks man! Your channel and your energy are fuel for new/old skateboarders like me! I’m trying to get courage for my first drop in on next days, and I’m 44 years old!! Great job mate! Congrats!!!
When I was learning to drop in an year or so back, your advice made more sense than anyone else’s. I’ve been a bit dogged with injuries but still following your steps and improving every time 🤙
I decided to first do in in Roller blades to reduce the fear and it worked for me. I will work next on improving my drop with my Skates before I move back to my Board. It's just that moment you compress to the ground I get the feeling the board will slip out where the Skates are attacked to your body.

@@SkateparkLessons thnx..I've learned a skateboarding back when i was in my early teenage years ,(now i'm in my late 50's) but during that time there's no tricks developed only a simple tik tak and a crazy ride from either a moving vehicle or with the bicycle, then i moved to the United States during the mid 80's and didn't have a chance or didn't care about skateboarding anymore with me became a military and after that went on civilian life with a good career and Fast forward, now i have more time to go back skateboarding and re learning to have fun with it again and re connect my teenage passion -Skateboarding!! Once again i thank you much for making a video like this

That was great.. thanks. It’s so clear that once or twice of commuting you should get quite comfy with the whole thing. Looking forward to getting there
PERFECT!! I've decided to practice dropins today. I haven't done a dropin since 1989. Good idea starting on a bank. I'm glad I saw that because the only quarter pipe at my tiny local park is 4 feet tall.
I've just just started skating for the first time in my life, aged 41, thanks to my 11 year old son taking it up. I'm now at the stage where I'm comfortable skating and decent at manoeuvring etc. My next stage now is learning transition skating and this video is definitely going to be a masdive help in my learning curve. I might have to put it off til next year though, thanks to the weather in the UK. Plus I need to get a helmet and pads, as I somewhat stupidly refused to wear them when learning to skate. I luckilly came through unscathed though, other than a couple of minor cuts on my hands due to some of my early falls. To anybody out there thinking of taking up skating, dont be like me, get the safety gear from the start, especially if you're older like me, otherwise the psychological fear factor will hold you back and slow up your progression.

Okey so what i learned from this video is not how to drop in. i learned what to look for in a partner 😂. Your level of kindness and patience is so great, without frustration, and you celebrate the small improvements and encourage him to continue when it goes wrong and give such great constructive feedback. You seem like an amazing person, keep it up! I watched someone teach their gf to ride a motorcycle recently and he was so harsh with her, got frustrated when she didnt get it right, almost straight up mean, horrible.
Thank you so much, I appreciate you noticing my dedication to teaching. I hope you find some helpful tips in my videos. Please share them with your friends or anyone who could benefit from them. 💙🛹🙏🏽🛹💙
This video is one of the best i've ever found on You tube.....i'm struggling with the Drop in....i'm 43 and i used to skate when i was 13...now i'm back thanks to my kids who skate with me The thing about the back foot not completely on the board and the head a bit over the front foot are awesome advices I'll try this way in a couple of days...hope it works 🤣

@@SkateparkLessons i need to thank you so much because today i finally dropped in 😁 At first with a little help from a friend but, as soon as i figured how to do it on my own, i did it with no effort Thanks again 👊
This was a timely video I was doing drop in practice on Wednesday I could do a drop in on say maybe a 3ft drop on to mellow ramp but the quarter pipe evaded me. I was padded up but took a slam on my elbow thankfully ok just bruised physically and to my pride lol. Thanks for the advice, my instinct from the quarter pipe was to lean back as I dropped even though I was telling myself keep the head over the front and commit with that front foot. After about 5-6 slams I paused on the basis it was better to walk away in piece than not! Thanks.
It’s a great lesson. I wish I would have seen when I started skateboarding. In the 90’s I was a teenager skater. I was learning to drop from a mini ramp. I broke my ankle. In the E.R. they said it was just a sprain. They missed diagnosis and it took me a lot to recover but the fear of dropping took more. Even if I could do several flip tricks and skate switchstance, the copying was off limits. Several years later, I committed to drop in on ramp ( I was 32 years old) and I did. I stopped skating. Recently I got back again because of sons, they want to learn to Sk8. I am 47 and I would like to retrain me to drop. I will use your suggestion for the whole family. Thanks for your effort to make and publish this video. 😊

Tried it few days ago, almost broke my left wrist. Tried it yesterday, i fell back with so much force my vertebrate still hurts... back of my head stomped the ground too. Thanks for the advices, i'm still afraid but i'll try again next time 💪

Amazing channel ... perfect teacher and the guy is 100% motivated! Drop in scares the sh*t out of me ... 😬 ... started skating at 43 ... now I am 45 ... I am more the flat and curbs guy! 😄 Thank you, this year I will learn the drop in! 💪 Regards from Austria 🛹🇦🇹🛹
hey, dont worry about it, have somebody hold you while you drop in on your first quarter. I did it that way after not being able to do it for 3 months, I did it on banks and I tried it on quarters and sprained my wrist badly. after I did it 3 times with help, I was able to do it alone and increase the height as well by myself, so just have somebody hold your hands (who has the strength to hold you) and commit. you'll be shredding transition in no time. regards from germany.
Same 43 yr old boat, I finally gave up trying at the skate park and built a 2 feet quarter pipe at home, when I master that one I’ll build a 3 feet and after that I will take it to the park. I tried all last summer and just couldn’t commit, one time I tried so hard I kinda passed out, blocked out, and fell straight to the floor, if it wasn’t for the pads I would have been in trouble.
@@diddymelone2265 For me, trying it with help resulted in a bloody toe for the helping guy and me falling straight onto my face (the helmet prevented worse) 🤪 Since then I didn't really try again. But hey, the right day comes for everybody!
i wish you were in los angeles man I can't get over the fear of dropping in on coping, but if I'm being honest i need to learn a few more things before i get to drop in.

💙🛹🙌🏽🛹💙 Awesome Vincent!!!
Great tip about keeping part of the back foot off the board so the wheels don't start rolling too early on the bank. That was key for me to build confidence with commiting my weight forward. I did 100+ reps on banked surfaces. Finally tried on a small quarter pipe today and dropped in no problem!

@@SkateparkLessons I finally dropped in on the 5’6” resin last time so it’s on to the 6’ half pipe next time 😁
I decided to first do in in Roller blades to reduce the fear and it worked for me.

Once again i thank you much for making a video like this
We need to clone Josh and send one to every skatepark in the world. What an awesome teacher

Stoked on your progress Mark! Thank You for sharing and I hope my vids help!

Okey so what i learned from this video is not how to drop in. i learned what to look for in a partner 😂. Your level of kindness and patience is so great, without frustration, and you celebrate the small improvements and encourage him to continue when it goes wrong and give such great constructive feedback.

hey, dont worry about it, have somebody hold you while you drop in on your first quarter.
