5:57 Decided to give my take on this scene as a writer/poet since you struggled with it so much lmao So you see Jimin sitting in the middle of this large, empty concert hall. The lights in the background are black and white, which symbolizes regality and power. And then, contrasting the dark background, there's that really harsh light reflecting on him. When you think stage lights you think of a performer, someone in the public eye. However, he's not standing up on stage, so he feels like he isn't even supposed to be in the spotlight. He's crouched down, his face away from the camera, trying to hide himself as best as he can but it's no use. He still feels that overwhelming sense of loneliness and pressure that his fame has placed on his shoulders. And even the lyrics, "Do you hear me", kind of tie into that. He's calling out but he's all alone. There's no one there to support him or guide him along his journey. BTS have tried to describe how their fame effects them so many times over, but it's shots like these that really make it hit home.

Black swan and blood sweat and tears are next level in cinematography. 2 of my fav MVS. They're art in songwriting and cinematography. I know this was done a while ago and people probably commented on this but Yoongi doesn't love dancing lol. And that's def not Namjoons original look. Their look was what they perceived as hip hop in the beginning. They've evolved a lot throughout the years. The song is about the loss of excitement and love that popularity and constant work causes. I'm going to watch all your videos because your breakdowns are fantastic.
did you know that the curtain behind SUGA in 7:32 is a 3D theater curtain? the hairs of the main figures were stuffed to give them depth. the idea of "the hair gently billowing as the curtain moves up or down" is like putting on a persona to cover up your shadow (Jungian psychology referenced in their album 'Map of the Soul: Persona' & 'Map of the Soul: 7')
"Black Swan" is a term used to describe a life changing event. To qualify as a Black Swan it must meet three criteria, 1. It must come as a shock or surprise, 2. It must cause a change in life, a negative life changing event, 3. Looking back on the event it will appear obvious that it should have been predicted. The Art Film is jaw dropping. Visually stunning and completely different. Thanks and stay well
I Iove your breakdowns, and yes their writing is exceptional because some of the members like RM, Suga, J-Hope, may have a hand in writing and they write from within. 💜 Please keep going, I hope you continue to enjoy the diversity of their music. Highly recommend you look into the Bangtan Universe too.
Thank you so much. I have seen this MV lots of times, but because of what you shared I saw so many things that were new to me. That was so exciting - I love that you pause and explain what you are seeing. You really seem to like the story so some of the MV explained videos might be helpful - especially for Blood Sweat and Tears (although that one packs so much in from different perspectives a single video can only capture some of the references in the various details). I think you would really like to see Daechwita by Augst D (aka Suga of BTS).
this is one of my favorites bts' songs, i cry every time i listen to it bc it makes me miss figure skating which i couldn't do for over a year now due covid-19, i lost the passion for it for a while but this song literally reminded me how much it means to me and connected me to it again, so now it makes me WAY too emotional. I'm thinking about making a choreography to this song as soon as I can get back :( awesome reaction i loved it
I would really love your opinion of ‘l need you’ by BTS. It was a very low budget video when they didn’t have money to spend on MV’s, never the less it really was filmed well and the acting is great. (No dancing ) it is the start of the storyline but please don’t start that yet as it is extremely involved and complicated and l don’t think you really are interested in going down that path just yet but ‘l need you ‘ shows what can be done with no money, using their staff to play extras etc…I am sure you will be amazed at what they were able to do.
And when millions of us are called out for being "teenage fangirls" and loving them only for their "looks"... No. The reason is music. We came for music and will forever stay for their music and them. Amazing reaction, enjoyed it a lot. Thanks for checking the masterpiece out 💜
Really appreciate watching these videos through your lens. I’ve learned to appreciate the videos that much more! Thank you. Also love your transparency and vulnerability.
As an artist myself, though not in music, this song speaks to me SO much. It manifests their fear that one day, their passion (music) will no longer give them any joy and shows them battling with their shadow (the white vs black clothes), before accepting that as a possible eventuality and moving forward, learning to embrace the darkness. Not because this is something they face, but because it's a fear that everyone who is truly passionate about something has, even if they don't know it. I really do think Jimin's solo dance bits throughout the MV brought it together; you can't talk about losing something without showing what that something can be, and his training in contemporary was perfect because I've never been able to imagine the song working the same in another genre. The movie Black Swan, which I watched after this song was released, is actually a really fascinating psychological thriller and if you're at all into that I recommend it. They also released an Art Film, with an orchestral version of the song (hits 7× harder than this one, imo) performed by MN Dance Company which beautifully embodies the message of the song.
11:20 yeah but ironically, Black Swan was the last song they performed in front of a live audience before the pandemic happened. their first last dance.
I love how to dissected almost each and every frame of this video. I am so obssessed with Black Swan not only because of Jimin's elegance and poise when he dances but because this video in particular is almost like a masterpiece. Everything ties in together, the camera angles, the dance.. it's a whole vibe. One of my favorites from BTS. Thanks for reacting!! I'm enjoying the rest of your videos too. 💜
I like your interpretation “success without happiness” is exactly right, unhappiness to the point of losing the passion for their art. This song has very deep connotations especially because it can apply to anyone’s passion for something in general being lost and how one reminiscent of what one used to love is now lost. Btw, interlude Shadow is another masterpiece. Is Suga’s solo song from this album.
“I feel what they are telling me to feel but I can’t describe it.” I get this a lot with BTS’s work. True art that is conveying emotions and meanings beyond the confines of words. We’re blessed to have BTS, to have this beautiful art to enjoy. Their work is such contribution to humanity.
I love watching you react because you often point out things in the videos that I completely missed (and I've seen these A LOT), and, I love watching people who know what they're talking about react (musicians, actors/film makers, video editors etc) because odds are I'll learn something. So, thank you.
I wish you knew more about them as people and a group so you’d understand their personalities. There’s a reason why Jin was given the room with the mirrors and why Jimin was the black swan. Please watch a video about them as individuals and a group. Like maybe: A beautiful life goes on
You were spot on with the meaning. This song is about an artist's fear of losing passion for their art. Martha Graham, a famous choreographer, said, “a dancer dies twice, once when they stop dancing, and this first death is the more painful.” This quote is used in Yoongi's rap at 2:36 and then later mentioned again in Namjoon's rap at 3:35
No it's the music , the music is their passion not dancing ( well some of them really love dancing ) , Suga's line ( This is my workroom it's my studio ) represents how passionate he is about production and making music
@@iampigoinkoink5185 Yes Jimin too and jk . But Suga and V and RM are passionate about music , and jin was passionate about acting . But the song was more focused on music
This song is so so important to me. The idea of seeing who you are entirely, seeing all your fears and shouting that none of it can devour you... I literally tell myself that on dark days ever since I listened to this song. And the video is just perfect to convey that emotion. Jimin’s dancing is so expressive, has so many emotions and it’s so beautiful. The online concert they did he had a dance solo at the end of black swan and it was one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen in my life. That reminds me, I don’t know if you’d be interested in stage design at all, but the stuff they do is madness. Their performances at Melon music awards (MMA) in 2018 and 2019 are just amazing.
Black swan is one of the songs that i relate so much , i cried so much why i heard it . The pain of loosing passion for things you love. At the time i was really disconnecting with my art and after black swan i got back into it . I love them so much
At 6:03 when you talk about the aisle shot, I think it’s also referencing the fact that even when they aren’t performing, they are being watched. So even when they are off-stage they are under the spotlight. And they are also alone. Because of their fame, they haven’t had many opportunities to meet people and to just go out. So I feel that it symbolizes the result of their success and the reason why it’s difficult to find the “light” in their ocean
somehow, watching a filmmaker gush over this validates how much i love the black swan mv (im close to obsessed with it 🥵) the artistry, lighting, angles, transitions, lyrics, everything coming together to make something so beautiful
the feeling that come to mind when it shows the scene of him couched in the audience with the harsh-edge spotlight is desolation in grandeur. A space that is empty and devoid, but meant to be full of life and love. Black Swan is one of the BTS videos that really brought me into ARMY and I hold a lot of love for it.

@@AngelaSealana ok thanks
Of course, the movie references the ballet.
"shadow" "success without happiness" ...
everything you explained was in their song titled SHADOW ... I hope you see it
This is still my fave BTS MV, everything about it is just so perfect and on point.
this is one of my favorites bts' songs, i cry every time i listen to it bc it makes me miss figure skating which i couldn't do for over a year now due covid-19, i lost the passion for it for a while but this song literally reminded me how much it means to me and connected me to it again, so now it makes me WAY too emotional.
Pretty please.
yeah I agree.. I think u should first know more about BTS as a group and each member's personality.. if u r interested
And don't forget to watch the right version! Tgere are two versions
And when millions of us are called out for being "teenage fangirls" and loving them only for their "looks"... No. The reason is music. We came for music and will forever stay for their music and them.
Amazing reaction, enjoyed it a lot. Thanks for checking the masterpiece out 💜
I'm 57 & it's so exciting to be considered a teenage girl again! These young men are amazing. I'm so proud of them.
Really appreciate watching these videos through your lens. I’ve learned to appreciate the videos that much more! Thank you. Also love your transparency and vulnerability.
I think dancing is only a part of it, it’s about them losing their love for music and everything that comes with it(dancing, composing, performance).
the shadows are Jimin and J-hope
I like your interpretation “success without happiness” is exactly right, unhappiness to the point of losing the passion for their art. This song has very deep connotations especially because it can apply to anyone’s passion for something in general being lost and how one reminiscent of what one used to love is now lost.
Btw, interlude Shadow is another masterpiece. Is Suga’s solo song from this album.
I wish he can react to the wings films tho
I will
They’re really good at storytelling, and you could see it in their short films of the Wings era
I never thought about the mirror. I love your interpretation 💜
Of course of course
I wish you knew more about them as people and a group so you’d understand their personalities. There’s a reason why Jin was given the room with the mirrors and why Jimin was the black swan. Please watch a video about them as individuals and a group. Like maybe: A beautiful life goes on
i love when an intelligent man understands an intelligent's work. I think a lot of armys also should watch you.
You were spot on with the meaning. This song is about an artist's fear of losing passion for their art. Martha Graham, a famous choreographer, said, “a dancer dies twice, once when they stop dancing, and this first death is the more painful.” This quote is used in Yoongi's rap at 2:36 and then later mentioned again in Namjoon's rap at 3:35
Love your analysis. Have fallen in love with Black Swan all over again. Every time they performed this piece was art. The sets, lighting, them...
No it's the music , the music is their passion not dancing ( well some of them really love dancing ) , Suga's line ( This is my workroom it's my studio ) represents how passionate he is about production and making music
I really think j hope's passion is dancing
@@iampigoinkoink5185
Yes Jimin too and jk .
When I watched the MV the first time, I couldn't stop crying, IT'S A MASTERPIECE
Its refreshing when you mainly aim to look at the cinematography bt start resonating with the lyrics as well ...
Black swan is one of the songs that i relate so much , i cried so much why i heard it . The pain of loosing passion for things you love. At the time i was really disconnecting with my art and after black swan i got back into it . I love them so much
The lights and shadows in this MV are amazing. They have so much control.
Now you have to watch black swan mv shooting sketch and black swan Jimin behind the scenes
somehow, watching a filmmaker gush over this validates how much i love the black swan mv (im close to obsessed with it 🥵) the artistry, lighting, angles, transitions, lyrics, everything coming together to make something so beautiful
The way you use cinematography to understand the whole story is so amazing. Thank you for making me love this song even more.
the feeling that come to mind when it shows the scene of him couched in the audience with the harsh-edge spotlight is desolation in grandeur. A space that is empty and devoid, but meant to be full of life and love.
Black Swan is one of the BTS videos that really brought me into ARMY and I hold a lot of love for it.
I also recommend you to watch the Black Swan performance video on the James Corden show.
That performance is a masterpiece.
I totally get what you mean about not being able to describe it exactly but being able to feel it. I get that feeling a lot with BTS' music.
here from the tiktok you posted about quitting starbucks. this video is so fitting to your situation because ur chasing ur passion and taking a huge leap and i want u to know how inspiring and amazing that is. i wish u the best and i’ll be watching all your videos to support your journey :)
Thank you so much!!
I never would have thought I could love black swan and bts more but the way you explained all the little details made me appreciate them so much more
I just noticed that at the start of the mv we're looking at them from the perspective of the audience and slowly the perspective switches. By the end of the video during the last chorus we're on stage with them, looking at the lights that are shining down on them and all the seats in the audience. Wow.
The amount of times I've seen BTS videos and NEVER understood the things you say.. wow THNAK YOU so much for putting their art into words!
I could listen to you explain their MVs all day. Can't wait for the behind the scenes and Spring Day
I am so happy to see someone who reacts to their music and truly understanding the depth in every lyric.... not a lot of people understand this from BTS.
5:54 YESS that's the point “a dancer dies twice - once when they stop dancing, and this first death is the more painful.”
As an aspiring filmmaker myself i'm so happy to finally find someone who breaks down this song's visuals and correlates them with the lyrics! I've always loved BTS' mvs because of this exact reason, every frame is intentional and tells a piece of the story they want to tell. An absolute masterpiece and your reaction really captured it too! You got yourself a new subscriber! 💜
The greatest and coolest thing.. and what makes BTS special is that they write their songs themselves... they're just great at everything.… .🖤
This is one of the result of yoongi's saying "If you listen to our music without prejudice, you will like it"
What a beautiful reaction there and I love it because you are starting to like them. You gained another subs here! :)
Black swan is a masterpiece. The song, the lyrics and the mv
this song is everyone's special song in the whole fandom, and this mv too its just hits where no one else did
Jimin is the black swan. Jimin's passion and drive to excell in his artistry is unmatched and so moving!
this and film out makes me so so emotional everytime. doesn't matter how many times i hear and watch it
If you want to see what RM's hair was like, I would suggest you watch their very first music video "No More Dream".
omg no pls lmao
🤭🤣you'll get a surprise in your life🤭😉💜
@@sarap2974 I like it, I think he looks bada**! But that's the way guys wore their hair when I was growing up. 🥰🥰😊
@@charityhooper2377 no it was bad and he knows it now, the past is in the past. My man looked like a toothbrush, so glad he got over that phase. The best glow up ever.
@@-amel-9896 No, it really wasn't bad. It's a hairstyle in the African American community which I'm a part of. So calling it bad...is kind of like an insult to the early hip-hop culture. I think a better word may be outdated because Black men were wearing those haircuts in the '80s and '90s. I think RM meant it was a bad choice for him to be wearing it but the haircut itself is not bad.
One of the things i really love about BTS music videos is that you can feel their passion through the screen just by looking at them dance or hearing them sing. It captures so many beautiful emotions
shadow, hourglass, water, fire, wing, light, ego, persona, are key words for BTS. Your interpretation and technical explanation are super helpful and give us a new perspective, thank you very much
black swan is a masterpices I love your explanation and apprication thank you
Ahhh my brain kinda broke when you said it's showing Suga's vulnerability through the camera angles showing all sides of him that's so cool AHH idk if I even rephrased that correctly but I really like ur reaction videos I've watched like 5 in a row
I kinda looking forward you to react to black swan, because i knew you gonna love it 😊, this mv is very beautiful and emotional
BTS serves quality music, mv, lyrics, and performance. I'm proud of them.
Black swan both this and the orchestral version is so beautiful. It's my fav. And I love to see your face light up when you love the mv. 😍
there’s things i haven’t noticed in their music videos until i watched your videos and now i’m kind of obsessed with all of the details that they put
What they did with black Swan is incredible. I'm a dancer and this video feels when we go to the theater for our rehearsals. Watching this video I can smell how the empty theater smells and feels. It also brings memories of how many hours of rehearsal we go through. This video feels so nostalgic
Besidea the fact that this song is a masterpiece
....ur analysis is amazing....everything thats dazzling about this video u mentioned... the best reaction ive seen....so in depth
Love how the last video you said you don’t connect with dancing at all but this one touched you in a whole different way. This was such a great reaction :)
I would say they are in love with Performing and the various forms that can take for the individual members.
I really love hearing your insights as a filmmaker some of which I'm hearing for the first time. I've been constantly amazed by their lyrics, choreography, and the total aesthetics of their MVs, and I know they're really rich on details but now it makes me appreciate the whole work behind these MVs on a whole different level cause most of what you're saying makes perfect sense. Even with that 360 camera angle, I didn't think there could be more than just the beauty of the angle. I'm learning a lot from your reactions actually so thanks! 💜
Your passion for our passion is felt so much. Thank you... and you're welcome :)
This is the first time I’m not annoyed whenever youtubers just pause too much just to say things like ”wow I like this!, so cool” . This is the reaction I want to watch ☺️ I really like you keep up the good work!
The way you can watch a video like this and just really understand and appreciate the meaning and story of it really amazes me. BTS has so many incredible aspects of their work and lives, and its really neat seeing someone so interested and skilled in their filmmaking aspect. Thx for such a great explanation and breakdown!
9:28 HOW MANY TIMES I'VE SEEN THIS MV AND NEVER NOTICED THAT JIN'S REFLECTIONS WERE STILL LOOKING AT HIM WHEN HE TURNED AROUND?? Wow. Your reaction honestly give me so much more depth to their videos, because you see and feel things that I wouldn't notice, but when you describe them it just makes so much more sense. Like I appreciate their MV's from the visual side so much, but I won't get a lot of stuff that's in it. I'm so glad your doing these reactions and that you're enjoying them. I'm looking forward seeing more.
Finally Black Swan, huhuu thank you
You should react to Black Swan Art Film too, i always get goosebumps everytime i watch it 😍
Thank you for letting me see this video with fresh eyes!
I’m so glad I could do that!
