    Just FYI, TAM card requires you to take multiple choice test IN-PERSON before you can get your physical card :)

  • @echoesofthedead

    hey jacob; i just finished the tam, and food safety card tests. i guess the system changed a bit. now the agencies won't allow you to just take the tests on line, you have to go into the agencies like the health district and tam want you to show up and retake their tests, pass, and THEN, get the cards from them. granted , yes you have taken the extra steps to get the job(s), but this way in the eyes of these agencies/districts, they are eliminating the "out-of-state" riff-raff...just figured i'd pass on the info to everyone interested...good videos, keep up the good work.

    Great advice! I agree that getting the TAM and Health cards are important. They're not hard tests to pass, especially the TAM card in my opinion. Can have both in just a few days :)

      @_jonathanjulian When I did it, you had to get it through SNHD. You could take it online before, but I guess you have to do it in person now.

    Jacob I listened to your video before I came to Vegas and I had a great experience living there for the year and a half. Unfortunately my dad got sick and I moved back to help him out. But I went out there with 4500 dollars and I lucked up and got a job at the White Castle my first week out there and I got a second job at Target. I didn't have any real hardships. But I want to thank you for the great advice God bless you bro

    This is great. My daughter and I were discussing what she'd need to work in LV. She's in the restaurant business here in NYC and has the N.Y. equivalent of the same cards. She took those same tests in NYC. Thank you so much. We were not sure what identification she'd need in Las Vegas and how to get it.

    Thank you sooo much Jacob! You have gave one of the best advice ANYONE in Vegas has gave me! I wish I watched this video 2 months ago, I've been jobless since I have moved here. I have lived in the bay area before I moved here and I typically find a job(s) quickly. I find that people don't like to give out information of the tricks of the trade. After going on countless interviews I noticed you reallllly got to know someone in order to get certain jobs. I know for sure this will help me find a job. Thanks again and once I get a job, I will update you guys.

    I wish I had known about these cards a year ago before I moved here. You can take the test for the Food card online, but you have to go downtown to take the test for the TAM card in person after taking the course online. I did that a couple weeks ago. I needed the TAM card for a job at the movie theater. Who knew liqour was sold at movie theaters in Nevada?
    And you can end up putting down as much as $ 200.00 for a Sheriff's Card.

    • @JacobslifeinVegas
      @JacobslifeinVegas  7 лет назад +1

      Interesting. I wasn't required to take any exam in person. I did take one in person the first time, but I renewed both cards online last time.

    For those who work in the security business, they need a guard card which is renewed every five years. Even in the Taxi business, one needs to have some type of card too. Nevada has no state tax. However, the state puts in all of these stupid fees for almost everything. This is how the state makes its monies.

    • @JacobslifeinVegas
      @JacobslifeinVegas  7 лет назад

      What type of security work are you referring to?

    • @LVScooter1
      @LVScooter1 7 лет назад +1

      I am referring to any type of security company. Whether one works in the casinos or does private security they need to have a guard card.

    • @Northeastbaseball
      @Northeastbaseball 7 лет назад +3

      Jacob, LVScooter1 is referring to the PILB work card, commonly known as a Guard Card (California has a similar card as well). This card is required is someone wants to work for a company like Securitas, AlliedUniversal, G4S, or any security company in Nevada. I would also recommend that Nightlife Security Officers/Bouncers/Doorman get the same card. If you are called into court to testify about an incident, you can almost guarantee that the lawyer that you are facing will have a copy of that Nevada state law governing Security officers.

    • @JacobslifeinVegas

    Hi Jacob, LOVE YOUR VIDEOS!!! I do have a question. I am currently a CA resident planning on moving to Nevada; particularly Boulder City. I already have my AA in Liberal Arts with an Emphasis in Kinesology and I am also getting a certificate in Physical Therapy Aid in the beginning of December. With my degree, certificate, and "proof of experience" hours, will I have an easier time getting a job at a local clinic or hospital? I know it all depends on the obvious "if they are hiring", but would you say it will be easier to get a job in Nevada than in California? Thanks again so much Jacob, you got a new sub!!!

    You are right about companies being strict with those cards. I had a random conversation with a guy doing ID checks outside of an outdoor drinking venue and I asked him about the hanging checklist behind him. He told me that all places need to have a visible list (or readily available list) of all staff on duty and the relevant cards they hold. If not, and the inspector pops in for a visit, $1k fine per person not listed. With a penalty like that hanging over their heads, you can't blame them for being strict.
    But I always ask... with all these TAM cards around, why do those "dirty dining" stories appear so often. 😂😂😂

    Hey Jacob, thanks for all your helpful tips for important stuff in Vegas. I've been here 5 years and still learn a lot from you... wanted to update people on the FOOD HANDLER card. As of July 1st 2018, one can no longer do the test online. You have to go to one of the locations. Also.. what's your take on getting the FOOD MANAGER SAFETY CARD certification? I'm sure it looks better on resumes, and it costs about the same. Also, you don't have to get the TRAINING card first. Sure, the exam is harder and longer, but if it looks a lot better to employers, then maybe it's worth it. Thoughts? Maybe someone has a friend who has experience with this.

    We do extensive background through Metro and you need a sheriff's card for any industry work, so if you have a background issue that will be a problem. We are not a felon friendly city FYI.

      +kainoam031 I think it's perfectly fine to apply now as long as you're clear with your potential employer about your available start date
