They’re not singing for Sabaton they are singing for their homeland. This song is everything in history
Im not Swedish, but I felt that, even tho I’m German. Wish we had that national proudness u guys have
@@jannik2324if you are proud to be swedish and pattiaotic in sweden you are called a racist, it's sad. 🇸🇪
What are you saying? These are Putinists, friends of Nighthawks, touring Crimea after the Russian invasion. Sweden is fiercely anti-Putin and knows only six hundred years of war with their insane, genocidal neighbour Russia. What are you talking about "singing for their homeland"? Their homeland is Moscow, they are turncoats and traitors in Sweden. Read up mate.
It's about soldiers sent to war maybe 300 years ago. During that time Sweden was one of the great powers of Europe.
@@jannik2324 sorry to say. We are not that proud of our self.
I'm a Swedish person and I find your Swedish sound for the title almost correct. Please go on with Sabaton you have my heart for what you are doing.🥰🤗🇸🇪
Jag skulle precis säga det samma :)
Bättre uttal än drottningen.
I am so grateful as a Swede that Sabaton is swedish, so that we got the 11/10 masterpiece of the Carolus Rex album
Same
And I as Dane brother!

where did this passion were when muslims invaded you guys? :|
@@NostalgicMem0riesWhat are you talking aboute Sweden 🇸🇪 never been in war with a Arabic country only Danmark or Russia that tok Finland 🇫🇮 and Polen from us Carl the 12 killed in Poltava.
You did your swedish with grace. Well done! Cheers from a finn in Sweden.
Sabaton also did an English version of this song, but it was done from a different perspective. A Lifetime of War is more about the general European perspective about by the thirty years war whereas En Livstid I Krig tells the story from the perspective of a Swedish soldier during the thirty years war.
Both lyrics are powerful, but the Swedish one is so much more personal:
Swedish (translated)
For war it can
Destroy a man
I give my life for my homeland
But who will mourn me?
So see me as
A husband, a friend
Father and son who never comes home
But who will miss me?
English:
Has man gone insane?
A few will remain
Who'll find a way
To live one more day
Through decades of war?
It spreads like disease
There's no sign of peace
Religion and greed
Cause millions to bleed
Three decades of war...
I usually explain it that the Swedish version tells the story from our/a Swedish soldier's view of the 30 year war, while the English one is more from an outsider's view.
One thing to add is that you can get the entire Carolus Rex album is with both an Swedish and English version.
@@Templarofsteel88 And the Swedish version hits harder, even if you don't speak the language.
And En livstid i krig (and the whole Swedish version of CR) is SO MUCH BETTER.
This video came out in the worst of the lockdowns. The subject matter is heavy but also seeing a crowd like this when it seemed like there would never be live shows again was something else.
Yeah, right before the lockdown started. Had tickets for 5 other shows and 1 festival that year and this was the only one that happend.
@@Templarofsteel88 yes, this one and The Ghost show in Mexico City were the last metal shows before lockdown
@@christophersims3319 was refering to here in Sweden.
This song is about an important part of Swedish history ( the 30 year war) and the crowd was mostly Swedish, which makes it easy to understand their engagement. Additionally Joakim told the audience that they will make it a competition between Stockholm and Gothenburg and the better singing crowd will be in the video. So everybody was giving a little extra to win and i guess it was a close call in the end.
The Stockholm vs Göteborg rivalry is still going strong I see
Yep. I was at the performance in Gothenburg, spent the next day sounding like Gollum due to how loud I was singing 😂
It's about a Swedish soldier during the 30yrs war. Their English version of the song is about the same war but on a more general level.
This song is about the Thirty Years' War that dominated central Europe in the 17th century (1618-1648). To this day it is one of the longest and bloodiest wars in history, with the death toll falling between 4 million and 8 million. Many of the fatalities were not even from active warfare, but famine and disease also plagued the area, upping the casualties that much more. Casualties reached such a high number that many Swedish men were forced to fight when they had barely reached manhood, and sometimes even before then. Which really makes the title of the song ("A Lifetime of War" in English) hit a little harder. Men basically spent their entire lives at war, no chance for a peaceful life.
The was about the battle between Catholics and Protestants, and at some point during the war almost every major player/Country in Europe was a part of it.
This Swedish version of the song tells the story from a Swedish soldier's point of view. You should also check out the English version; it is not a direct translation from the Swedish, but it rather tells the story of the war from the perspective of the outside people, those not involved directly in the war but were affected by it.
The lyrics hits hard, but it also shows that even when times change, new technology comes, one thing remains constant and that is the horrors of the war, both those who fall in it and those who survive and have to live with nightmare every day (ptsd).
That is correct, I am from czech where it all started and then ended 30 years later witht he swedes dying on charles bridge, one interesting thing is the song THE LITTLE DRUMMER BOY comes from THIS TIME it has NOTHING to do with "jesus" or "christmas" it was about a drummer boy who goes off looking for his father who never came home.
Was truly epic to be at that concert, a memory for life. This tune in Swedish really packs a punch. The song emphasizes the destructive nature of war and how it has brought Europe down in flames. Despite the immense suffering and loss caused by war, there are always a few who survive and strive to find a way to live another day. Awesome lyrics, awesome reaction and awesome Swedish pronunciation Stacey 👌Greetings from Sweden, rock on 🤘
So jealous. I hear from friends of mine that were at that Goteborg gig that people were singing En livstid i krig in the train on the way home...
Sabaton !!! One of my all time favourits !!! Gott mit uns !!!
Your pronunciation is really good, you nailed the "i", most English speaking people pronunce it like the English I, when it's closer to ee. I used to teach Swedish as a second language and almost everyone of my students had a hard time pronuncing and hearing the difference between E, I and Y.
Sabaton is literally the second best live-bands I've ever seen, and I've seen them 9 times and counting, They even kicked ass the first two times I saw them when the stage was barely big enough to fit the whole band!
The only other band I've seen that beats their live show is Rammstein!
I wasn't at this particular performance, it's a bit far from where I live, but I've seen them perform this song in swedish like this at least 7 times, and the atmosphere in the crowd specially when they let the crowd take over and do all the singing is indescribeable! I'ts one of the most amazing experiences you'll ever have!
The Carolus Rex album in my opinion is Sabaton's magnum opus.
Definitely. And En livstid i krig is the best song in the album. Other songs are great, but this one is just unmatched. No way they will make something even close to that. Ironically, it's one in a lifetime type of song.
My favourite Sabaton song. Great reaction!
Your pronunciation was pretty good. It's really easy to understand what you said and yes it's swedish.
If the whole audience sings your song, then you've made it as a band.
Most of us Swedes take this song to our heart like the National Anthem we should have had.
This song bring tears to my eye with much pride and feeling patriotic of Scandinavian history.
Thank you so much, Stacey! This brought back memories of the Cologne concert last year and i wanted to shout "Noch ein Bier" (another beer) at the screen 😅. I don't know if this is just a thing among the German Sabaton fans or not, but it was so much fun to chant that in the pauses between the songs and have one of the stage crew come out and bring Joakim a beer. Eventually he would leave the stage and have one of the other guys drink the beer or they'd skip the pause 😂. Awesome band 🍻🤘🏻!
They do the same in Poland and the Czech republic.
It can be seen in the long version of 40:1 from Woodstock and in Far from the fame at Masters of Rock from 2012, the first time they ever did the song live.
FYI the drummer is not sitting behind the tank but on the tank and also he is married to Floor Jansen greetings from The Netherlands
Great reaction and great job at saying the name of the song 😊 I was at that show, and it was pure magic! 🤘
Also they have a Sabaton History channel on RUclips. Which has Indie Nidal and many of the actual History of many of thier songs
Their song "Lion From the North" is also about this time period.
And that album has a full Swedish version. In my oppinion the swedish versions are more powerfull than the english vesions on that album.
Well, so is the entire Carolus Rex album :P
I were in the audiens and it still gives me the chill every time! You are right it is Swedish. And it is always funny to se reaktionvideos of this song 🤘🤘 And you had a really good pronanciaton (spelling) 😅
Your pronounciation of En livstid i krig was very good actually 👍 Much better than most so well done. As you must know by now the drummer Hannes van Dahl is Floor Jansens husband. What a power couple 💪
Looking forward to next Nightwish reaction and Sabaton of course.
Having heard Floors Sister recently I hope that musical talent is somewhat genetically. Maybe someday Freya and/or Lucy will hit the stage....
Another song that can hit hard to think about the soldiers in and after war is "Wrong side of heaven - Five finger death punch"
I was at this concert, less than a week before covid hit Europe, so it turned out to be the last concert for quite some time (hell, part of you wondered if you would ever get to experience a concert of this size again). The reason why people sang the entire song was that the band challenged the crowd to a sing-along contest between Gothenburg and Stockholm (the next tour stop, the next day). I think we won... 😁
Your swedish pronunciation was pretty much perfect btw.
Songs with emotion at their best
That awesome guitar player is a even better singer. His name is Tommy Johansson and he is a RUclipsr too, so please check out his channel. He does cover songs of 70's and 80's rock and pop and christmas songs his way.
Yes please, Tommy is fantastic ❤ Team Tommy will thank you😀
I concur! If you love the 80's you will find plenty of gems, covered by Tommy!
Didn't Tommy win The Voice .se version or something?
@@paulsmith5752 he was the 2009 karaoke champion in Sweden
I love when the lyrics go "Baptized and fall in battle" is when Stacey is enjoying it the most :D
One of the best conserts I’ve been to.
Hugh Congrats to You Stacey - the best pronunciation EVER from a foreign reactor to this Swedish title. They do sing in their (and my) native language - Swedish. The lyrics is powerful as it tells the story from the soldier's point of view. The translation is very on point. The guitarist that You smiled at when he looked into the camera and flipped his hair, is Tommy Johansson. He puts out metal covers of known songs on his own YT channel. He has a fantastic voice that You should check out - You will not be disappointed.
The long haired drummer, Hannes Van Dahl, is of course Floor Jansen's husband.
Please note that the drummer is Floor Jansens husband.😉
Great reaction and analyzing. I like your style. Greetings from Finland.
Hi Stacy, I think I may of finally figured out how to send a video link lol. I love your journey that you’re taking and I’m so excited to see your progress. Especially with Pink Floyd-David Gilmore and other outstanding guitarist. Have a blessed day, and thanks again.
You would enjoy Floor Jansen's interaction with the audience during her performance of "I Want My Tears Back" with Nightwish at Buenos Aires
Indeed.
Omg, good pronunciation of the song name 😈😎🇧🇻
Joakim fights the 30 years war daily since hes half czech and half swedish lol
All of Sabaton's band members have a burning interest in history and that's why they write such good songs when they know the history that they then turn into a song. That's why no other band can do it, as they don't have the real interest in history that Sabaton has. Livstid i Krig is about when Sweden was involved in the 30 years war and it is true what they sing that no one remembers the ordinary soldiers and no names are mentioned in the history books. But only important commanders and the king. The song also fits the soldiers in different countries who went to war and died, so no one but the family remembers them.
If you want to see how Sabaton gets a large audience in Woodstock in Poland to sing along, then watch Sabaton - Swedish Pagans - Live at Wacken Open Air 2019, the audience should be 1 million. ruclips.net/video/NWnuSZ5pwNA/видео.html
or earlier basking also from Woodstock in Poland. sabaton - 40:1 Liveruclips.net/video/lYkfRzBnydU/видео.html

Hello Stacey, I just found your channel, because of Sabaton, of course 😅. Watched all your Sabaton reactions just now and I really like your take on their music, so refreshing and emotional. Sabaton is a great band and masters in evoking feelings in people. I've seen them live and every concert is an emotional, wonderful and funny experience.
So far you've been listening to mostly emotionally packed ballads. If you're ready to follow the band there are really energetic songs in their discography ( as a matter of fact you got yourself into a huge rabbit hole 😂).
It's good to watch them live, because they really bring it live .
My picks would be:
"40:1" Woodstock Poland 2012
"Great War" Great Tour, 2020
"Night Witches" Great Tour 2020
"The Last Stand" official music video
"Uprising", double reaction - official music video and live from Woodstock Poland 2012.
That's for starters😁
Sabaton is celebrating 25 Anniversary this year. Their discography consists of 10 albums (11 if you count "Symphony To End All War"), EP's and singles, so there's a lot to listen to.
I really like everyone of your reactios to the greatest band ther is. You got yourself a new fan🤘🔥🤘🔥
Greetings from Warsaw 🎶🇵🇱
I have heard Sabaton before but never watched a video before. It was great watching with you, thanks
This track is pretty much our second national anthem (at least for us Swedish Sabaton fans).
You should react to Sabaton Night Witches. The animated story. The full version. Its about a WW2 all female Russian bomber squadron. Its historically accurate and awesome
Pronunciation was pretty good ☺
Love from Stockholm!
It is sad, but what is most sad is that most people wont even understand that a person is willing to give there life and die for other people. No matter where you are from, Sweden or elsewhere.
I'm about 47 and I'm crying everytime at this song. You have no idea what"s about it
Fantastic reaction, and post-reaction comments. I think you just might have leveled-up to Five Finger Death Punch - Wrong Side of Heaven, which talks about our veterans.
I was at that concert, it was a great time!!
Two of my favorite Sabaton songs that are worth reacting to are Defence of Moscow and Steel Commandeers
I was there. It was an epic performance
Tip. Tommy Johansson. (Guitarist in Sabaton) he releases new cover every friday. Amazing.
Hug from Sweden 🇸🇪
Sabaton and Swedish people are 11/10 🤘❤🔥
Coming from a Swede.
A lifetime in war ( en livstid i krig) is awesome song

One of the last comments about Diana's voice:
Pffff.... her voice is really very special, unclassifiable, atypical, out of the ordinary... 💖

2) the most complex vocal techniques, a bewitching voice;
3) Diana sings in 6 languages : English, French, Russian, German, Spanish, Arabic and any musical genre;
4) incredible charisma, artistry and living of any song;
5) a vocal range of 4 octaves;
6) a large army of fans around the world;
7) an independent artist, without producers and labels, only with the support of fans and reactors like you;

0:35 That was nearly perfect pronunciation actually, specifically the words, very well done!👍
You absolutely failed at butchering the title because that's probably the best I've heard a North American do without having lived here 😊
Wow thank you so much!!❤️
They sing about the Thirty Years' War (1618-1648) .. Where Sweden became a great power 💙💛
You probably realise this by now but I'll say it anyway; you misunderstand the context of the song, it's about a specific war Sweden was involved in, where literally generations of fathers and sons went to war and were killed on the battlefield. It's not written about soldiers in general. But of course it will apply to soldiers in general as well.
Im a history nerd. I love Sabaton.

im Norwegian and if there ever gets a ww 3 i will put this on. It is one of the most powerfull songs i have heard ever. I strongly belive in this and would defend my land as any other fellow.
This is the story of the 30 years war in Europe (1618-1648) from a young swedish boys perspective sent out to a war to a foreign country he'll never come back from.
The 30 years war was global conflict in Europe and some mean it was the actual first world war.
A lifetime of war
I look around and I see my home fade away
My time at home now feels far too short
Just a youth, barely a man when duty called me
If i get to see my home again, that I do not know
Amongst friends from my village, I went out to figtht
And the world burned
For war it can
Destroy a man
I give my life for my homeland
But who will mourn me?
So see me as
A husband, a friend
Father and son who never comes home
But who will miss me?
Went to fight for Sweden, was baptized in blood
Out there where death awaits, not heroism
In fields where kinsmen fall no song is heard
Challenging our destiny one more time
Far from home
Baptized and die in battle
And the world burned
For war it can
Destroy a man
I give my life for my homeland
But who will mourn me?
So see me as
A husband, a friend
Father and son who never comes home
But who will miss me?
And when my time runs out
Who cares then?
They fight on
Does a soldier get a worhty end?
To fall asleep
Pass away
And never wake up
For war it can
Destroy a man
I give my life for my homeland
But who will mourn me?
So see me as
A husband, a friend
Father and son who never comes home
But who will miss me?

Saw Sabaton at 70K!! Joakim is a pretty chill pineapple pina colada bud. Finished the set with En Livstig I Krig/A Lifetime of War after Shirayama (last stand of the Samurai).
Joakim: Do you want it in English or Swedish?
Crowd (also myself): Swedish!!
Joakim: But you don't know the words and you had a bit to drink!!
Crowd: We don't care!! It's Sabaton!!
Counterstrike has to be my favorite Sabaton song opening, either Counterstrike or Swedish Pagans.
6:53. That guitarist's name is Tommy Johansson. He left Sabaton this year.
He has a RUclips channel called Tommy Johansson where he upload his own covers of famous songs.
You should check out Tommy's youtube channel.
He has an amazing voice.
And the lyrics pretty spot on word for word so you're not missing any context, that's why it also doesn't rhyme in english, Sabaton usually does that.
Ps. Did forget "zombie", by the Cranberries about the so called " Troubles" in northen Ireland. Big hugs from Jonas Gothenburgz.. Sweden ❤
I live in north of Sweden in town Boden where one of them are from and i think have come back home again. He is no longer playing whith them and have his own now overhere. He also have a channel here on youtube you could se on. His name is :Tommy Johansson.. Greetings from Boden. /Patrik

My wife suprised me at this consert, in our home town Gothenburg, nice to see that people like it, it was a very good night for us 🇸🇪🇸🇪
Stacey, I believe you said that you like exploring new music and artists. There's a young man named Dimash who has an absolutely beautiful voice that I believe you would enjoy listening to. A good introduction to him would be the song SOS performed at the Slavic Bazaar in Russia. Hope you get a chance to react to it.
I'm from Sweden and your Swedish is almost on point. But you also talking about what happend when you come back to war. That i feel you should check out a band call 'Five finger death punch'. They have a song called wrong side of heaven that are singing about what happend after you go to war. where society hardly care about them after they returned from war. It's a very sad song but worth to check out. Have a nice day and greetings from Huskvarna Sweden.
As a swedishspeaking finn, good shit.
They are bard but from our generation ahah ! All their song got something to say to all of us. One of the best band ever.
Massive history.
All Swedes - All rise for the metalheads anthem.
Stacey, Sabaton isnt all about music, this one sure as hell isnt any different but the history is the behind of everything Sabaton does, the album Carolus Rex hits real close to home.
Im my hometown of gotheburg and venue scandinavium......a lifetime in war.....
I saw them in Prague as i where there for a training but wanted to see them again but sold out of cource!!
In Prague though thay had vip tickets with all food and drinks free,,,,,that was dope!!
This is a deeply patriotic song for those of us who are willing to lay down our lives to protect our homeland, military background or not. Oh, and yes, they were singing in Swedish.
No it's not, the song is about the leaders sending people out to die for causes that doesn't make any sense for the soldiers, then the sacrifice is rapidly forgotten when it's over. Most soldiers were peasants that had to leave their families to fight for other peoples gain without getting anything back. The main theme is, there is no glory in war, no heroes, just unpaid sacrifice.
@@thedryparn1279 What the song is about and how you look at it are two different things, you obviously look at it as meaningless sacrifice while others understand it and look at it as protecting your homeland by keeping the war elsewhere and sacrificing less countrymen in the process than if the war was fought at home, keeping our way of life and the freedoms we have is the payment.
@@E33Tpro Sure, if you do that you can get every song in the world to mean anything.
@@thedryparn1279 That's one part of the art of music, personal interpretation.
