    We have been using a snowballish method. But I feel it’s fully Dave Ramsey principles. We started by knocking out the baby debts and then a lot of our medium debt is close to the same balance give or take a couple thousand. So we switched to the debt we hated the most. We ended up paying off a car with the lowest interest rate because the high we got “owning it” felt so good and it had the biggest monthly payment to put back into our pockets to make the snowball bigger. It kept our momentum up. Whatever gives you the wins that gives you that motivation to keep going! Paid off $22k this year and got $65k to go and the snowball is growing!

    The debt snowball works most for the basic reason - for most people in debt, even the "minimum payments" leave almost nothing to play with.
    So by paying off the smallest one, you suddenly have that entire minimum payment to throw at the next debt ...
    5 debts of 100 minimum payments, but you only have 25 extra. Throwing it at the "highest interest" vs the "smallest balance"? the lowest balance means you now have 125 to throw at the next one ... but the highest interest might be months or years before you get rid of any of the minimum payments !!!

    • @CormacADoyle
      @CormacADoyle 11 дней назад +3

      If you literally have two debts identical in balance, then paying off the higher interest rate one makes sense ... but that's the only time it makes sense
      (of, and if you have found money that wipes out one debt, and only partly wipes others, then wiping the higher interest one MIGHT make more sense, if the length of time to pay off the next one is not significantly different)

    • @WhereHasMySanityGone

      The snowball approach address the most important issue/need when paying off debt.. the Human Factor. Not sure many ppl set out intending on being in debt, but...
      The pure math side of the payoff says "the highest rate will cost u the most" but does not address the human Factor that loses momentum, gets tired, frustrated, etc..

      I used the Avalanche method to successfully get out of credit cards and car loan debt. It is not harder to achieve if you have personal discipline and don't require little wins to stay focused on your goal. Most people are not self-motivated, as instead they need that carrot to motivate. I stuck it out for two reasons. I don't like to pay out more in interest than I need to, and secondly, to prove I could do it the "hard" way. With dedication, you can achieve anything you put your mind to.

    • @WhereHasMySanityGone

      @@marcopolodarts this is awesome and glad it worked for you! Reality has shown that 6 to 8 out of 10 ppl are well meaning but not have the same discipline as you. In the end it is all personal choice (good or bad ..we all get to choose) and finding what works for each individual situation. Snowball or Avalanche .. getting out of debit is the end goal so ppl should pick which method works best for them to accomplish the end goal.

      Yeah and if you the discipline of doing proper math to begin with, ypu wouldnt need the discipline to do The Avalanche v method and you wouldn't be in debt to begin with
      The act of choosing to stay in debt is not a math problem it's a behavior problem I'm sorry to Parrot Dave but that fact makes way too much sense and it's been true tried and true proven throughout Millennia of time

    • @motoryzen
      @motoryzen 10 дней назад

      @@mortar235 you're missing the point it's not a math problem it is a behavior problem . The absolute vast majority of time when someone is in debt and he or she actually knocks out debt and at the same time builds a reasonable emergency fund life AKA Murphy usually leaves that person alone
      Now nothing in life is guaranteed you can step outside your door and accidentally tripping break your damn neck on the on the fall, but statistically speaking your life improves 100 fold when you knock out debt and you build an emergency fund
      The problem with that is not a math problem again it is a human behavior problem of entitlement of wanting something now and not given a crappy if you pay for it in full or not at that moment that is a behavior problem. The debt snowball has proven to be far more effective than the Avalanche method
      Otherwise Dave Ramsey would not have been able to build the business Empire that he has today. I'm not saying this because I'm sucking up to Dave Ramsey I can't give a damn if it's Dave Ramsey or someone else that came up with this method and named it something else besides that snowball or the baby steps. That is irrelevant. But facts do not care about anyone's feelings on this. The act of staying in debt on purpose longer then one really needs to or should versus what he or she is capable of, is asinine and that is a behavior problem that is a choice to remain a monetary slave
      When you do the debt snowball method you knock out more quantities of debt faster which fuels a natural feeling of accomplishment and natural mental dopamine which fuel which self encourages you to pour on the coals of that little mental train to knock out more debt faster
      The Avalanche method does not because chances are that according to the Avalanche method the chances are that an individual's quantity of debts involving the one that is largest is the won the Avalanche method will say to attack first and the most hardcore. You're going to lose self encouragement and become despair this way thinking you're almost spinning your wheels. That's why the debt snowball is better and has been proven to be better every single time

Also look for a nice campground in your area and see if they have cabins to rent long term. You may have to use a shower house for a bathroom, but it may be cheaper than a hitel. Sam if that’s your blood grandma just take any help she is offering you. This is not your grand mother-in-law. She used to change your diapers. You will sit across the Thanksgiving table just fine and you will never feel like a slave. My family’s life and standard of living would be far worse today, if we wouldn’t have accepted my grandparents generosity while they were alive. Just like Dave’s wife Sharon had no problem borrowing from her dad, you will have no problem borrowing from grandma.
    And don’t ask about taking the money as an advance on your inheritance for Gods sake.

    • @elissapoh7782
      @elissapoh7782 11 дней назад +3

      I don’t think the issue would be with the grandmother - the problem comes after the grandma passes and somebody catches wind that this is happened and it causes an issue between the siblings. If it’s done above board and everybody knows about it and there’s a plan then it is way better for all the other family relationships that will extend past her lifetime. I think sometimes grandmas don’t realize that their generosity could implode the family they love so much when they aren’t here. And also, sometimes grandmas forget they loaned the money and that can create very interesting situations that look like one family member might be stealing from grandma - those rifts last lifetimes. Stay above board - all the siblings need to be in the loop.

    Since the commencement of Biden's presidency, the United States appears to have witnessed more adverse outcomes. These include impacts on the markets, such as declines in prices, significant inflation spikes, and instances of bank failures. I am contemplating whether the sudden surge in interest rates will be advantageous for value investors or if it might be more prudent to temporarily avoid involvement in the stock and financial markets.

      Engaging in the strategy of "buying the dip" can yield long-term profitability. Nevertheless, caution is advised during bull runs, and it is recommended to consult with a knowledgeable advisor to achieve your growth objectives and avoid potential errors. Elevated interest rates generally lead to decreased stock prices.

      my plan next year is going on 80% equities 20% cash. One of the things I have learned in my years of investing is not to completely move in or move out of investments, if you have quality assets. It is better to trim, and then hold some cash for buying opportunities. Before the latest drop in the market was down to $105k but currently at $650k, marking a 25% increase from last year

    I wanted to go on the cruise but doing research on the Same cruise, same # of days, same itinerary, a few weeks before is less than half the price that you guys are charging. You guys are charging $2000 at a minimum with no gratuity or add ons. Just the cabin. This is a “reward” for being debt free? I get the personalities will be on board, but the ship has entertainment regardless of the personalities there or not. I get a markup bc Ramsey is reserving the ship, but over 50% of a markup to say you went on the Ramsey cruise ? You guys are out of your mind. You want us to be smart with money but then you turn around and slap us in the face with this ridiculous price bc we’re debt free? Don’t give your money to other vendors, give it to Ramsey lol? Yes you should be smart with money. I believe the reason the price is like that is due to security, celebrities, famous chiefs; and the connections that will be accessible. I would have to make $150k before taxes, no debt, and single to consider it.
