What should we do with this 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air 4 Door Hardtop?
You've heard of barn finds but we found this one in the barn yard... and it ran! Come check it out as we go over it and meet someone special along the way!
And as always please subscribe, like and click the notification bell to see the latest and the greatest as we go over classic cars and trucks!
Hey everyone! Thanks for subscribing and watching the video. Be sure to click on our VIDEOS link from the main page to see our other Tri 5 vids... and some other cool stuff mixed in too!
I currently have a 4 door hardtop in my garage- they can be a pain to restore because some parts are unique to this model, and not reproduced..it's a labor of love :)
Love its unique roofline though
She's a beauty! 👍😎
Awesome find fellas! Think it's the perfect candidate for a rat rod! Love the four doors!
We think so too!
Brings back memories of mine. Did a mild resto with motor rebuild and a repaint in Maryland in 1983. Then drove it to Seattle in January without a single problem. What an enjoyable trip. The rust finally made me sell it in about 1995. Motor was a PowerPack 283 and everything was original. The last of my hotrods.
We're in MD... whereabouts were you been then?
Now that's a great cruiser just like it is...yes its a neat ol car ...drive and enjoy have fun thats the way !!!
We think that's a great plan!
Drive it like it is! I love it
That's what we're doing so far!
Perfect candidate for a two door convertible chop! Leave all rusty and crusty but people will think it's an original converible worth whatever they are these days!
We've got a 60 Impala we're actually considering doing that too. Our latest video features that car.
@@FNKClassicCars Hah, yessir, watched that one a few minutes after this. That Impala definitely needs the full chop, it looks strange right now. :)
First 57 was a 4-slammer hard top. I love the roof line on those.
First thing that came off were the rear door handles. Then I tinted the back windows with black spray paint and pulled out the back seat. Added a plywood stand to make the back seat area all flat. Some foam rubber and a carpet job and I had... A car, that no father would let his daughter get into.
Haha! That sounds awesome!
Great car, thanks to share.
Thanks!
Very cool the way it sits
That was cool Leon. Thanks for telling me about your channel
Thanks for checking it out!
Love it
Nice! I wouldn't know what I'd do with it. Just clean up and drive, or restore... either way, it's awesome!
It's a ton of fun to drive... gets lots of looks!
Good find me and my brother drove a 4 dr ht to the jr senior prom in 1967. My mom put sheets on the seats. We put the engine in it from a 4 dr sedan that’s we had installed in it. The motor came out of a hot rod32 ford that someone upgraded. Well, enough history. I like the car. Love to see you get it dependably road worthy. 👍
We're working on it and should have an update video coming up this summer. Thanks for watching!
What fun...little bit of wax and she will look like new..LOL
I've been lucky in finding nice trifives near Santa Rosa. First one was a pristine black 57 Nomad with like new interior back in 1979..in 2012 made a new home down payment in Las Vegas.
Still have my Pacific Bell 150 utility that delivered phone books to my parents home in Santa Rosa..purchased at auction by the shop that seviced it since and then to myself in 1979..love all of them!!
Love the tri 5 stories! Thanks for watching!
Really enjoyable I love tri 5 ,4 door hard top very cool I'd put cookers in it spray front end Aqua then sanded and included whole car
Appreciate ya watching! We're definitely gonna have some fun with this one!
We have a guy here in SoCal that suicided the rear doors and shaved the handles. Doors open like a 66 Lincon Continental. These hardtop 4drs will always be loved.
Great ride just have fun with it.
We just got it's twin the other day... video coming up on it soon. Swamp Thing!
Leon, you never told me your father was Burgess Meredith. I loved him in Grumpier Old Men.
LoL! 😆
Very cool 😎 car it runs good 👍👍👍👍👍👍 I give you five star ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ great car old school American muscle 💪💪💪💪💪
Ol Frankenstein can not be held down! 😆
Great car. I gave 57 sport sedan as well that I’m restoring. I need a drivers door window
There are some Tri 5 parts available here in our area if you are near MD
Congrats on making it to 94, my pops is 90 and showing no signs of slowing down.
Love that car leave it as it is it looks great I've got a 1956 four-door hardtop that I'm going to get going it looks similar to yours it's Rusty like that but the floors are good and solid in it and the trunks good and solid in
Ol' Frank here has good bones too and is a real blast to drive just as is.
Love this video, glad to have found your channel 👍
Thanks for subscribing! Check out some of our other videos. More Tri 5s and some other stuff mixed in.
Keep up the great work. These are my kind of car, and you two are pretty good with the videos.
Thank you... appreciate the comment!
Clear goes bad. Then its a pain. Sweet Patina Sauce or 3/4 Boiled Indeed Oil and 1/4 Mineral Spirit mix works well too and its really cheap ! You just got to wipe it down every few months. Protects from rust and rain beads right off and your can keep working on it and not worry about the clear. Keep it a rat, it has tons of character .Just drive the hell out of it and enjoy all the looks and all the
thumbs up you'll definately receive ! Love it and I'm so jealous !!! Larry
Thanks for the great idea!
Good video guys. I'm always torn about what to do with a classic and usually lean toward restoration, but I think this is a rat rod candidate if ever there was one. Making the car mechanically sound and leaving the exterior pretty much as-is might be the way to go with this one.
That's what we're thinking too. Took years to make it look that way... make it run and rock it!
Great car! Love it! Enjoy watching your videos! We favor the tri-five cars! New subscriber! Thanks for sharing this!
Thanks for subscribing! We've got some more tri 5 content to come... along with a few other surprises. 😃
Your videos are great 👍👍👍👍👍 I think I have the car just like it is make a rat rod love old school American made car and truck
Thank you! Appreciate hearing that! Gotta love the rat rods!
Too cool. 4 door hardtop, I believe it is the rarest of the 57 body styles and James Bond drove one in the first movie. It was a taxi cab that he appropriated.
We love its unique roofline... more gangster looking
Get it safe, get it one color (Rustoleum would be perfect) and drive the wheels off of it! I'm also from Maryland, and when I was a kid, my father and brothers owned a $hitload of tri-fives through the years. The 2 most notable ones were the old man's '57 Sedan Delivery, which we brush painted white over red, and my brothers' (they were twins and split ownership) '55 wagon which my brother painted blue with white spider-webbing when he was in (Woodlawn High) auto shop. Like the '68 in the background! My first car was a '68 Chevy BelAir. Keep rockin'!!
Hey! Cool to have a fellow Marylander on the channel! Anywhere near the Frederick area?
@@FNKClassicCars I'm in Catonsville (between Baltimore and Ellicott City).Currently working on my '65 Studebaker Daytona (Chevy powered.)
@@deliveryguyrx Right on. Familiar with the area... Only about 45 mins from us.
lol, looks like you're going to have alot of fun with that sport sedan. Something tells me the best way to support your build might be to send bactine and bandaids. BTW, the factory original color name is Dusk Pearl and one of my favorites. It's actually a manly pink, me thinks! Hoping the inner fenders and a good core support find there way back on the car as that front sheet metal must bob & weave a bunch on that thing! :-)
Oh there's definitely some flapping metal going on... lol! We may put our logo on the doors and ride that way for a little while we work on some other projects. This car is so cool the way it sits we don't wanna change too much just yet... minor improvements as we go along!
👍
After seeing your dad in there, it looks like Frankenstein could have come with the 94 year old original owner. That’s how old my dad would’ve been if he were still alive. Yeah this one could definitely stand a repaint as without it rust will spread. But whatever you do, PULL-EASE do not abominate it into a faux two door.
This one is a great running car that we're enjoying as is for now. We've done a few things to it since this but we'll do a follow up video on it in time for Halloween!
Justin, Leon you guy's are live'n the dream. Now I think I would run that ol girl like that for some time. But being a 4dr pillarless I would restore her to that original pink silver that is a great color on those big girls' She' definitely worth spending dollar's and time on. Cheer's JV Tasmania
Thanks JV... We just subscribed to your channel. Thanks for following along on our journey!
running old gas is a bad idea, it has a tank drain or get some octane booster. low octane will burn hot and potentially damage or melt the pistons
We definitely addressed that
Put all the trim back on, give it a good wash and clean out, scrub it lightly with some scotchbrite, rub it down with some linseed oil,.and you're done! Make it mechanically perfect, and clean. You've got it. You don't want it to look like something out of "Tales From The Crypt"
Scruffy is cool
Scummy is not.
You know what it is.
That's basically what we're doing... we'll do some follow up vids on it as we make some more progress. Thanks for watching!
@@FNKClassicCars We can't all be Jay Leno, with unlimited funds. Guys like him can get anything done by throwing money at it.
Guys like us have to take what we have and make what we need.
Most of the time, the results are pretty cool. That's certainly true in your case.
leave it like it is,,,
Just needs a little paint it's ready to go.
It already has a little paint on it... lol!
The inside trim around the windows is worth more than the car. Try replacing those.
We're just having a good time driving it around... lol!
Fix it up and paint it.
Do you have to do emissions test? Would it pass?
Vehicles 20 years old and older are exempt from emissions testing and inspections where we are.
Air filter is screaming...clean meee
two tone it
One of our buddies wants to lace the roof
Wreck it,or drive it?- NO! PAINT IT,OR USE IT IN A MAD MAX MOVIE, AND IF YOU CAN FIND HOT SEXY GIRL TO RIDE WITH YOU IN THAT RUST BUCKET! SHE WOULD HAVE TO BE A KEEPER!!🤪
natural patina? try in bad need of a paint job
LoL! I think we were being sarcastic 😉
