Steve Thompson Discusses The Missing Bass On Metallica's "Injustice For All" Album

Music producer Steve Thompson recalls mixing Metallica's Injustice For All. He explains the missing bass on the album. He worked with Lars Ulrich on the drums and brought the bass up. Lars listens for a few seconds and asks "What happened to my drum sound"? Steve reworks the drum sound to Ulrich's liking. Then the Metallica drummers says "drop down the bass in the mix".
Thompson thought dropping down the bass was a joke. Ulrich continuously asked Thomson to drop down the bass even more. Metallica singer James Hetfield throws up his hands kind of clueless.
Thompson ended up giving the band what they wanted. It's the band's record and you need to respect the band's opinion.
