    Do you enjoy shooting with V-Log? Are you new to shooting V-Log? 😊

      This video is perfect for me. I just got my s5ii and I'm trying to improve my filmmaking skills. I wish you'd do an premiere pro tutorial as well. But I learned a lot of how to get the right exposure

    I've just found your channel Scott, great info mate. I'm just starting to shoot in v-log. The conversion lut I've used is from 'Gamut' and is made for Panasonic. It's only £22 too. Thanks again for your work mate.

    The best tutorial I've seen so far. Wave form monitor is worth a mention. The spot meter is a great tool. How do you use base correction?

    This is a brilliantly simple video!
    So you talked about skin tones, my struggle is product photography. So I guess in that case, is it 1 stop over using the luminance spot meter on a white point in the image as long as blacks are not crushed?
    I love this video for helping to film human subjects, but for product b-roll, I’m a little confused and possibly overthinking it 😂
    Your help would be awesome, thanks for the great content, subbed 💪🏾

      Thanks so much! 😎 the idea is the same. Expose for the part of the frame you want wether that’s a human or product it doesn’t matter. You can then add/take away light etc

      @@ScottEdwards amazing! I had the light set wrong and didn’t expose properly on the last video I posted so fixing my LOG shots in post was a challenge.
      I’m running 2 Panasonic S5 Mark II’s and a GH5 Mark II - so flipping between V-Log L and standard V-LOG is a challenge but not a major one- I just didn’t understand the exposure (I’m still really new to this) been a Final Cut editor for over a decade but shooting with these and learning things like aperture / shutter speed / white balance and exposure has been a fun learning curve 😂

    great video, very helpful as I have just started using v-log. How do you add the base correction layer in FCPX, you didn't mention how you do this? I normally edit straight on the clip so this way makes a lot of sense.

    • @ScottEdwards
      @ScottEdwards  8 месяцев назад +1

      Unfortunately they aren’t included within FCP so you have to download them. There’s loads online with a quick search. Thanks for watching 😎

      How do you find Vlog at night, I have seen a few other RUclipsrs saying not to use Vlog at night and go with something like Cinelike D2 as there is less noise, have you found that?@@ScottEdwards

    Hi Scott, great video, quick question exposing correctly in vlog in your video is indoor in a studio in which you can control the light, how about in daylight where its a bright sunny day? With a minimum iso of 640 your video is way over exposed how do able to control it? Even increasing your aperture not enough? For over exposing this? Do need like an Variable ND filter to control this? What do u suggest like you i got the lumix s5ii.

      Expose for the part of the frame you want. Use ND filters / adjust aperture etc etc

    Thanks but is it even possible to shoot at a shallow DOF like 1.8 at ISO640 on a bright day outside? I have a pretty good ND filter and I dont think thats going to work at all. I just got my S5II and Ive had it in auto ISO for the testing Ive been doing. Also, the great thing about the S5II are the real time LUTs, saves a lot of time in post.

    Should also mention the importance of white balance for accurate colours
    Great video though

    • @ScottEdwards
      @ScottEdwards  Год назад +1

      Yeah white balance is very important but wanted to just keep it on exposure. Might make another vid about WB

    I've been looking for best practice for exposing key side face in Vlog and your +1.0 spot meter example was perfect. Another thought: In your example, your ultimate dynamic range is only ~ 7 stops. So, under these types of settings, is there really any benefit to shooting Vlog over Rec 709 settings? Thanks,

    • @ScottEdwards
      @ScottEdwards  Год назад +1

      The benefit is more dynamic range and to have full control over colours
