A lot of great pointers one thing I do different is talking the spare tire down so it doesn't get covered also better access to frame and it's good to work that cable so it doesn't get locked up
An old family friend had a business on the New Jersey shore and his early 50's Chevy truck was protected with his own concoction of ATF & paraffin. The old Chevy is still kicking rust free and i remember as a child over 60 years ago him with a pressure bucket spraying on this hot solution once a year.
Lots of great advice Colt! When I bought my atv new in 2018 the first thing i did was undercoat the outside of the frame and fill the inside of the frame as well. In my opinion you should have your vehicle undercoated even if you don't live in a corrosive environment. And with the prices of rigs today every little bit helps. Cheers
IMO '15-'17 are outstanding trucks. My truck's frame was hot water pressure washed and coated with boiled linseed oil which hardens to the point of gummy, but it's not messy at all if I need to work under the truck. It takes days to dry so it really creeps into everything. It also soaks into rust really well. Any bolts I thought I might take apart was sprayed with PB Blaster surface protectant before coating. The transmission cooler lines along the driver's side of the engine to the front NEED to be inspected and coated. They do rust through. Sometimes the transmission gets destroyed. Also the painted front bumpers can be a huge rust problem starting with stone chips. It's also worth keeping the steering shaft u-joints coated with Fluid Film. They can lock up, and it's been an issue for decades.
Galvanic corrosion is caused by the dissimilar metals reacting…rust proofing will not prevent this as they are bolted together and that goo isn’t getting in there.
Very true but I’m talking more about rock chips in the aluminium that will the corrode, rust proof will still create and oxygen barrier. If that’s not what I said that’s what I meant to say at least haha
Ford has painstakingly made sure that there is no dissimilar contact. The Body and Frame are isolated from direct contact with rubber bushings. All the grounds that are connected to the engine block are separate and use aluminum for the body and steel for the chassis for grounding
and that applies to every other truck manufacturer, not just Ford, if you neglect to do any preventive maintenance , no matter what make, IT WILL RUST !!!
I worked at Toyota it's been over 12 years. Some of the old Toyota tundras when they were new they were getting brand new frames. But still you want to do like a fluid film or some type of oil
Hey, great video! I did notice you alternating between the terms "undercoating" and "rustproofing" a lot. I think some folks may get confused by this. Sounds like you are in favor of wet "rustproofing" as am I. Hard, drying "undercoating" can do more harm than good.
How bad would it be if I just ran a hose inside the frame to wash out the salt, mud, sand and etc? Would it be worse and park on a slight incline to drain out the water?
Very beneficial! I’ve known guys manage to keep Jeep frames at a level of surface rust only just by doing that, but they would do it everyday until the water ran clear
In your opinion what is the best rustproofing product to use? Or company that does the best job. I'm in Canada. I know of Crown and Ziebart. ( or maybe paraffin wax?) Would appreciate your insight . Thanks Mate😊👍
Best way I can put it, all companies will be great as long as you do it every year consistently, crown is a good choice and has lots of chains across the country. I. This video I used fluid film black and the truck had wool wax before.
Hello from Nova Scotia. I’ve been buying 5 gallon buckets of rust check coat and protect for $110. Where are you getting wool wax from here in Canada? I was going to buy the gallon pail of rust cure formula 3000 because of great reviews.
Amazon for wool wax name brand, might be offered locally but I haven’t found it yet, fluid film black is a direct wool wax product competitor now and can be bought at princess auto. In my opinion just as good if not better
@@highostablegarage right on. I sprayed my new truck and found the rust check washed off easily, even with the garden hose. Maybe the frame was damp when I sprayed it I don’t know as it’s never came off that easily in the past years.
@@northerntoyota7584 Corrosion Free 3000 is good stuff. Let it settle for a few days before washing your truck. I don’t ever wash my undercarriage, even in winter. The stuff coats everything and the dirty or salt never comes in contact with the metal. I prefer it over woolwax and fluid film. But nothing wrong with those two products either.
@@SEREInstructor it was a few weeks after and it was literally a light spray from the hose, not sure what happened but it was like the rust check was trying to stick to Teflon, it just completely washed off.
Zeibart is the only company that guarantees it's programs. Only company that treats roof pillars. Yearly inspections and if rot does occur they pay for repairs and/or they buy the vehicle. I had a 1977 VW rabbit from NJ/NY/Penn treated. 436k miles and in 1996 rot occurred below windshield company paid me $850 and they used my VW on advertising for 6 months then gave it back to me.
Great video ! You are forgetting one major item to soak! The transfer case! I lost my 2015 f150s transfer case with 80, 0000 km. On it! The calcium chloride eats the cheap aluminum pot metal like butter! It literally ate holes thru the aluminum transfer case. At 50, 000 it rotted out all the tranny fluid lines and my alternator rusted, seized and destroyed the belt! Aluminum body last forever on a steel frame? F.O.R.D. FIX OR REPAIR DAILY ! So true!
@georgeweisbrod1876 salt doesn't east away at several million mile semi trucks? Mail trucks? They are all alluminum body with steel frames. The frame will rust and break in half before the body is corroded
So much focus on the frame and chassis...but nothing on the body panels! What about in the pinch seams of the doors? The rockers? Surely there is bound to be some kind of aluminium deterioration, as road salt brine accumulates. Once you get corrosion in the body panel seams...theres no point in worrying about the frame anymore. Resale value tanks, it looks like shit, and you move on to a new vehicle
So far I haven’t noticed any issues with any of the post 2015 f150s I’ve had to deal with, some with protection others without. In my opinion spray everything but so far hasn’t been an issue even in the climate I’m in.
Yeah, the so called rust proofing will drip on your driveway after shutting the truck off on hot days. also it is a nightmare to work on your truck as you will get covered in the rust proofing.
@@patriot8087 I'd rather have a messy driveway that can be cleaned on a nice sunny Saturday vs a rusty beat too death crapbox in the driveway. It also doesnt matter cause working on a vehicle is already a messy job cause your touching road debris and brake dust so having a undercoating spray on bolts will indeed be a bit more dirty but atleast they won't break apart when you do need too take them out. Did you also know that Lowes, home depot, etc. Also sell hand cleaners that will clean off the oils and debris?

"Engineered Obsolescence" protection is what this is. This is very good advice.

100%, the amount of new trucks on the road that aren’t even undercoated is wild, I’ve never seen a ford lighting with rust proofing yet haha 😂
Keeping the Rust form getting oxygen is the idea 👊🙌🇺🇸💪🔧🚗

What do you use for “rust proofing”?
What kind of rust preventative did you use?
Mix of fluid film black and wool wax

Where do you find stainless transmission lines for this truck?
Whats opinions on Canadian trucks? Stay away or A ok?
Hard to say, definitely go by case by case basis but if you are comparing a southern us truck to a rust belt Canadian truck, definitely go southern
If thier oil or no drip oil guard this really saves them they will be OK if not double check,I'm 63 I live in Canada and this a must.
