    VIDEO DESCRIPTION:
    The Reiff's live and travel full time in this gorgeous DIY raised roof school bus conversion. The bus provides ample room for this family on the road with a huge amount of upper storage. Another great design choice is their kitchen. Feeding a family of 5 requires a functional kitchen and the Reiff's really knocked the design out!
    The bus provided an opportunity for the Reiff's to explore the outdoors and pursue their passions. When they noticed others living and traveling on the road via social media, they developed the mentally of making this lifestyle happen, no matter what.
    This DIY build features 6 Battle Born batteries, 2000 watts of solar, 100 gallons of fresh water, 3 bunk beds, and many other awesome features.
    My favorite design idea was the storage under the bunk beds. How about yourself?

    Nice build. I like that your sink, stove, and fridge are full size so it is like living in a home, not an RV. $75,000 is a great deal for not only a home, but a home that will take you where you can have amazing experiences most people only see while on vacation.

    Nice home on wheels, pity the boys don't have any windows in there bunks, but parents comfort is essential, there room is airy.

    • @LivingtheHighReiff
      @LivingtheHighReiff 9 месяцев назад +5

      We thought about giving them windows, but decided against is because it keeps it darker for naps or in the morning. Also, bus windows are not very air tight, so it would've let hot air or cold air in when we wouldn't have wanted it. But overall, the boys love there bunks and their own little lights with them.

    What a beautiful job your family has done to create your home on wheels. I agree that painting everything white not only makes the space look larger but cleaner and lighter as well. Also you haven't got a lot of 'stuff', just what you need. I always think that if you plan and organize (like you do) means less stress for everyone. I do hope you all have a great time traveling and enjoy each day as it comes. God bless you all.

    One of the biggest challenges to doing this from my perspective is safely riding with kids. Putting riders sideways is very dangerous in the event of an accident. You also should have a bulkhead to protect everyone from the objects/furniture in the bus. Nobody ever does this because it is detrimental to layout. I'm still searching for someone who has made a safe bus/van/box truck, etc. It's more doable with 2 people, but add kids to the mix, and I'm yet to see anybody who passes my safety test. It's beautiful. It's functional. You've made the same choices as others and no judgment from me. I guess most bus/van lifers are the types to, perhaps wisely, cling less to safety in order to enjoy experiences and freedom. I just want to have my cake and eat it too. Still looking for the layout that allows that.

    • @amythinks
      @amythinks 9 месяцев назад

      You're absolutely right. And if they do have something resembling a safe seating spot for kids, they don't have an anchor point to attach the over the back belt of the car seat. Hence why I don't own a drive-able RV. The best thing I can do (and what I just did) was purchase something towable. But in my heart, I wish I could drive the rig, not tow it. It seems so much more turnkey that way. @@hmmm2564

    • @milliealford8968
      @milliealford8968 9 месяцев назад +3

      You say " nobody has passed YOUR safety test" doesn't count. The law is the one that counts. I think they have done a great job on this bus and have their children's safety on their minds constantly.

    • @amythinks
      @amythinks 9 месяцев назад

      There are basically no safety standards for RVs. And no, what they have is not safe. I never said it wasn't legal. And yeah, I'm talking about my standard and why I haven't gone this route. That was clear from my comment. It's pretty cut and dry. Look up what happens to the human body when you crash while seated sideways. It's not a controversial issue.@@milliealford8968

    • @kayfabe591
      @kayfabe591 9 месяцев назад +2

      Umm, amythinks, me thinks you may be overthinking the seating geometry and physics. Forward facing riders of any age, a driver, or a restrained dog getting T-boned in a skoolie/rv/standard sedan/large suv is the same as a front or rear impact while seated sideways. This family's rig with seat belts is far less risky than the millions of school, city, and charter busses that have no restraint mechanisms.

    • @amythinks
      @amythinks 9 месяцев назад

      I do tend to do that. Just ask my husband. But not this time. Most crashes aren't t-bones. And anyway, there are lots of trade-offs. But a a parent, that's not how I think. I don't think...well...at least if we get hit by a big rig we're safer in this bus than if we get hit by a big rig forward-facing in a car and get dragged underneath. I think...is there any way to make this situation safer. There clearly is. I just saw someone who did it right. Forward facing seats...bulkhead. It was beautiful.@@kayfabe591

    I see so many people who have sold a home to fund their bus builds. Is there any where for people who don't have that kind of money to get financing for a converted schoolie purchase or to do a conversion themselves?

    • @TinyHomeTours
      @TinyHomeTours  9 месяцев назад +1

      There are many folks on the road who didn't have a home to sell before getting on the road--most of those folks do end up doing the conversion themselves but it is definitely possible!

    Wow, your bus home really looks so nice😍👍👍
    But, I am just curious:
    How can you cope with the hot weather in summer? As you know, there is more and more extreme climate in recent decade.

    • @LivingtheHighReiff
      @LivingtheHighReiff 9 месяцев назад

      We spend Summer in Michigan, South Dakota and Wyoming. We used our minisplit quite a bit for the AC and our solar system was setup to be able to handle the heat, as long as we had good sunshine. We also have a fan that pulls in cool outside air in the evenings.

    • @LivingtheHighReiff
      @LivingtheHighReiff 9 месяцев назад +3

      All the outlets, the minisplit, and fridge are wired 120v and the rest is 12v. Everything is powered by our battery bank and components that are charged with our solar. The system was spec'd by @sojournersway and he shipped it to us and we wired it all up
