This culture isn't a blank slate that he gets to rewrite and create a good adn bad side based on some invisible moral high ground for his comfortability. Its corny. Its weird. If my brother moved like this I would support him but explain to him how not having heart; the heart to compete is not a strength & using moral high ground as a weapon is cowardice. What’s beef and hit em up caused wounds that lead to the deaths of legends, but created profit for people that didn’t care about the artists or the culture.

That's fr a great point. Many aspects of the music industry don't care about the struggle of artists, black and otherwise but are happy to exploit them for every penny they have then toss them aside when they're no longer wanted. It also speaks of the tragic element of hip hop with its historical links to gangster culture and murder but often don't get appreciated until someone loses their life for a pointless creed.

    J. Cole had it coming. He was NEVER about being bravado, but the fans literally BEGGED him to start talking shit, and he tried to please everyone so he eventually fell into that trap.
The greatest thing about Cole is his ability to admit and learn from his mistakes, that’s the realest shit you can do and why his music will always hit for me. I will always support him.
And to be fair, he had one hell of a situation, the only line where he got cross fired from Kendrick was the “Mf the big 3, it’s just the big me”, which is still friendly competition towards him. He definitely should have addressed it that way if he wanted to respond, but his immediate respond was to aim low, critiquing KDot’s album and lifestyle. If he really wanted to respond he should’ve just talked shit about him being the best in another song and that’s it, all of this would’ve never happened because KDot was still aiming for Drake’s head, not Cole’s.

Beautiful from start to finish, both his words and yours. It's been a chaotic, wild ride since this began, artistry and memes tangled up together and people at each other's throats on the internet. In the exhilaration of it all, the damage can get overlooked. Thank you for this, for helping me understand exactly what J Cole is saying here. I don't want to miss any of it. I think it may be something that really needs to be heard.

I love all the spiritual perspectives that are being highlighted through this rap beef. Kendrick highlighted many of the teachings of The Bhagavad Gita in 616 in LA with expressing his moral dilemma of knowing his dharma is to fight and defend his family and legacy but also recognizing the negative karmic implications he’s sowing by going to war. Something his soul is still clearly wrestling with in Watch the Party Die. LaCrae sharing his two cents about what Christ would have done/has done. And Cole showing the world what that looks like in real time. This is the most conscious rap beef in music history and I’m here for it! 🔥
