As an older guy with a moderate hearing problem, I received hearing aids about a year and a half ago. I remember hearing birds chirping that I hadn't heard in over fifty years. I was in a membership warehouse where I bought them and heard the shopping carts being wheeled throughout the store. I had not heard that clanging/rattling noise for so long. I can only imagine what this little girl was thinking when hearing her mother and father's voices. I'm so happy for her.

I was once in a band playing an outdoor concert one Saturday afternoon. There was a group of teenagers sitting in front of the stage but I was puzzled that they had their backs to us, facing away from the stage. As we started to play, I realised what it was about. One of their number, an older adult was sitting in front of them, facing the stage and signing to them. The kids were all deaf, and could feel the beat from the speakers. The adult facing them was signing the song lyrics and my MC comments. Even my lame jokes. About halfway through our set I mentioned to the crowd what was going on in front of us and almost instantly the teenagers all turned around to face us and stood up and waved. Then they sat down again and enjoyed the rest of the concert. It was a magic moment for us. Never before had I played music for deaf people.

As someone who has worn hearing aids for 11 years now, I can recall the first time they were turned on at the Dr's office. Everything was extremely loud, even every-day background noise. The air conditioning, the sound of my shoes on the carpet, touching my shirt - It was like I had superhuman hearing. Your brain takes a little while to get used to hearing and toning everything down. All that noise was probably a little too much for her... Super cute kid, I hope she's adjusting well.

@@poodlemoth950 Not exactly so. A baby is normally used to hearing sounds gradually while still in the mother's womb. This little girl heard no sounds at all up until the time her mom started talking very loudly as she inserted the hearing aid. And like someone said, the little girl was confused and startled because the mom started talking to her with only one hearing aid in. That in itself is a distorted sound. She should have spoken soothingly after both hearing aids were in, and only after the girl had gotten used to them being in her ears.

I got my hearing aids as an adult after years of hearing decline. I had no idea how much I was missing. At first I could barely wear them for an hour. The technician told me it can take months or longer to adjust to "normal" hearing. I still get overwhelmed in crowds or by sudden loud sounds. The only advantage I had was that I had been able to hear for most of my life so at least I knew what sound was.
I do hope that after the video, the parents had this explained to them and stopped the "adorable" overload.

They will have to be taught together how to start communicating. She is far behind hearing children. Sometimes the children cry when they first get the implants because they don’t know what sound is. Stop with the negative comments about the mother’s voice.
