If you told me after the first rehersals that Portugal wouldn't qualify, I would not have been that shocked, because it was a real downer, but the end result today was SO, SO good. I'm really sad. Conan's performance was even better than in the FdC.
As I've said some weeks ago, the native language songs will kick each other out because some people just need to hear english I guess :/

Oneiro mou performance last year was not that good. Although I really love this song I can see why it did not qualify. But Portugal this year I don't... I got pissed when Estonia got through and Portugal didn't. Unfortunately, national language songs like Portugal, Poland, Hungary and Georgia didn't go through, while bad written and generic English songs like Estonia, Belaurs and San Marino did. I guess Eurovision is definately about fireworks...

When I first heard the Portuguese song, I had serious issues just getting it. But rather than get tired & bitter (no names) I persevered and grew to really appreciate it. I rated it third in this performance, only just behind KM-H & Hatari's brilliance.
So happy for Iceland, San Marino, and Slovenia.

Ok, I'm partial here, because they're representing my country, but Zala and Gašper's song is super cool, and the way they look and smile at each other - so human, so pure. No elaborate staging can beat that.
I loved their song but I also loved their press conference. Zala criticised the air conditioning and Gasper said the questions were bad and everyone just wanted to go home! I think they are awesome.

Could it be that Portugal had technical issues? The camera angles were iffy at times and the lighting was more suited for a grand orchestra and didn't highlight the exceptional dancing.

The UK couldn't vote in this semi final. We vote in the second semi final.
The same happened with friends of mine in Spain... they have tried to vote for Portugal and the line was blocked! Message they got back on their phones can prove it.

Belarus was fantastic.
I was never a big fan of Portugal but was disappointed they didnt get through.
Disappointed Georgia missed out.
Australia and Greece were gorgeous.
San Marino? Not on that performance.
I feel you! Portugal and Georgia deserved to qualify ❤️ They were fantastic. But Portugal is difficult for people to grasp. And Georgia was probably hurt by Iceland competing for the same votes! I suspect Poland was top 10 with televoters but killed off by the jury. Shame because I really love Tulia!

Really confused why you guys (generally) we're excited about Zena...she was pitchy at best. Serhat was also excruciatingly bad in the first half of the song like he couldn't hear himself from his inear. Portugal deserved to qualify 😥 I also wanted Belgium in but Eliot's vocals could have been better

I agree with you about Belarus. To me she's always sounded pitchy, especially when she goes for those high notes towards the end of the song. I seriously just have to turn it off because I can't listen to it (hurts my ears even with volume on low). It feels like I'm not hearing something when everybody goes on about how great she and her vocals are. She's just always sounded off to me. I don't personally understand how she qualified but...oh well. I thought Portugal was definitely more deserving over her. Actually really enjoyed his performance. But oh well🤷♂️

I know you guys are not using this word yet ;) but excluding Portugal was a CRIME.
Also, I love "Replay" but I could not force myself to vote because the live performance was so underwhelming. Tamta's vocal was weak and the staging was just meh comparing to her fancy, expensive, and plain cool video.
I'm glad we will be able to admire Slovenia and Iceland once again and I would exchange five San Marinos ;) for Poland or Hungary.

San Marino demonstrated tonight an old fundamental mathematical rule: that minus and minus equals plus. bad song + bad performance = qualification. a reason not to be upset about it.

I must say:
- Belarus (Zena) had a great stage presence an great camera cuts!
- Serbia: Queen Elsa! Enough said
- Belgium: Eliot was a bit down on the voice...and the overall performance was too static, unfortunately, to my taste
- Hungary: they should have made better use of the genealogy tree blending with Joci Papai's figure 🤦🏿♂️🤷🏿♂️
- Poland: they "threw away" too many interesting camera cuts possibilities
- Portugal : they should have gone with the same camera cuts as in Festival da Canção
- Georgia: wasn't into the song... but "saw the light" during the live performance
As Tamta said: I'm not happy about Portugal and Georgia being out
- San Marino: I feared when Serhat sang almost all of the first chorus off key😱...but San Marino finally made through
- Cyprus: they can improve some camera angles (too many wide shots imho)
- Estonia: I didn't perceived his voice as "shaky" as he himself said during the press conference, and the storm worked 👍🏿
- Greece: I am persecuting people around me with that song, and the staging was 🤩😍. Could still be improved with: less camera cuts from the bottom up, because they make the people on stage overlap; making the details of the costumes and "flower box" more evident; focusing a bit more on Katerine otherwise we lose her a bit on stage, especially with those wide cuts
- Iceland: nothing much to add
- Slovenia: nice qualification, nice song...but this is the first case of "too many close cuts" (the "Galaxy" is magical, so why don't make better use of it? 🤷🏿♂️)
- Czech Republic: 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿 Lovely happy song, lovely people...I wanted more Instagram effects though

Belarus and San Marino were a surprise but hat off to those acts for qualifying. Glad Iceland and Slovenia are through.
Portugal was such a let down.... It was so much more powerful at the national final in Portugal... The green costume, the new beard, new sound mix, slight changesto the choreography.... All the changes were for the worse. If they kept it the way it was in Portugal, this would have sailed through.

Every qualifier deserved it. There were some songs I didn't enjoy that got through, some that I wanted to qualify, but stayed behind... but at the end of the day I'm so happy about everyone who made it. Their performances were all great, I'm so excited

I'm confused because Poland had sound technical problem. 3 girls only sang because one of them had microphone turn off :( You can hear on live performance video (e.g. 1:02).
It's confirmed by Tulia. They noticed the error in the sound, but it was too late to repeat the performance :(

All I can think right now is that I am so, so thrilled to see Hatari qualify. Their performance was _beyond_ winner material in my opinion.

I agree. They had one of the most impressive and memorable performances along with Australia and Iceland. Greece and Slovenia were very strong too. Any of them could have won the semi in my opinion.
agreed, their song kind of flew past my radar at first, but their performance was incredibly solid and made a quality impression in a semi where a lot of performances fell short for me. not my style of music, but undeniably an amazing performance!
