The W212 E-Class is one of the best Mercedes-Benz Cars Ever

- Welcome to another useful video! In today's episode, we're going to be discussing why the 2010 through 2016 w212 E-class. Is it one of the best Mercedes Benz vehicles ever made? To prove our point we have an absolutely stunning Dolemite Brown over Chestnut leather E350 4matic to look over.
Before we discuss this E-class in detail further, let's talk about its predecessors. Specifically the W210 eClass built from 1996 through 2002 and the w211 E-class built from 2003 to 2009.
This particular E-class is the facelifted version which was available from 2014 through 2016 in the United States. At the time of it's released, it was the most expensive mid-cycle refresh ever, custom Mercedes Benz a cool 1 billion euros. Some might say that it's hard to decipher what that 1 billion dollars went to. However, the styling is quite different than prefacelift models which were offered from 2010 through 2013.
Prior to the w212, previous Mercedes E-Class models designed and built with cost cutting measures in mind. While this helped maximize profits for Daimler, it didn't do any favors for the overall reliability of its vehicles. Therefore, the w212 was built to achieve a high level of reliability.
There were other changes as well, which included revised side skirts, front and rear bumper designs, Jewel like LED taillights, and revised headlights that were now single piece units instead of the double pod units of the prefacelift models. There were two different versions within the range - a luxury and a sport model. The sport model featured in a prominent front grill with an inlaid Mercedes-Benz logo. This inlaid Grill on the sport version was the first time Mercedes offered the E-Class without a standing star on the hood.
One reason why the w212 E-class is the best Mercedes ever produced comes down to its attention to detail and Mercedes renewed commitment to reliability and quality of components used.
This is evident from the moment that you look at it. The paint has a high luster and sheen, the body panel gaps are very small, the sheet metal feels thick and substantial, and everything you touch feels very solid. Mercedes restrained styling ethos, while admittingly not for everyone, is present here. There are certainly classy touches here. Take for example the line running down the fender to the rear gas cap. It's elegant.
Agreed, I have a 2011 W212 that I found in a parking garage and bought from a 95 year old man for cheap. I love it, it’s the best car I have ever owned.
I have a 2011 W212 also and when I look at it is like looking at Halle Berry. It is beautiful and flawless like a work of art. Same, best car I ever owned.
I like the W212 pre-face lift better. I own one; (bias). Its a gorgeous car, mine is a 2010 and I still sit with a cold beer to stare at it.
I agree! Looking at both the pre-facelift and facelift today, kinda makes the pre-facelift look newer and more luxurious than the VERY expensive 2013 facelift. If you want a mean/muscle look, get a new GTR or GTC next to your pre-facelift E-class. Its almost like having a good pair of dance/church/work shoes, but also having a pair of good running shoes aswell.
Agreed..I often pull up a chair and admire my 2011 E550 4matic.
I actually bought my facelift E because my sons didn't like the pre facelift version. To me, both were beautiful. The pre facelift is the most Mercedes like. The facelift definetely bends towards the AMG look which all Mercs have today. Mercedes needed to attract a younger audience for this type and I think it worked. Sadly enough, the limo feel gave way to the sports sedan. I recently drove a W210 (+500.000 km) and I must say that the comfort of that car was way better then mine.
I agree 100%. That’s why I just bought the 5.5biturbo e63. I’m still pinching myself.
@@harryharrison483 Awesome! What color?
I would have to take issue with your claim that the W212 E Class Mercedes is the best ever.
The W124 series, built between 1985 and 1995 has that reputation, and I can vouch for that. I live in Colombia and 2 years ago I bought a 1993 W124 E320 which has now done 105,000 miles as it was originally sold new in the US. I paid the equivalent of USD6,600 at the time. Apart from some deferred maintenance issues, it is proving to be the best Mercedes I have owned. It is the last of the non-computer Mercedes - a big plus in my mind!
Prior to this, I owned a total of 6 older Mercedes in New Zealand between 1978 and 2008. The first was a 1963 220Sb which I owned for 10 years. I wish I still owned all of these pre-computer cars. They were wonderful.
Owned a 300 E diesel magnificent car wish I still had it
wow...I'd buy this model equipped like this in that color!!! so nice compared to boring black that is so common
W212 the best modern model that’s comparable to W124 🔥🔥🔥
They aint made anything Bomb Proof since the 280 3.5 at a deacent price.
Mine 2010…60k miles me the second owner…loved it for years…until the starter broke…5k plus in repairs and sold it at a loss…
expensive to maintain
Who knows somethink about engine chain..when it must be changed???
Owners i asked...i own an E250 CDI..2015..or maybe it doesnt be changed
Owner of a 2015 E350 Sport 4Matic here. I absolutely love driving the car. The highway is where it shines, but it is quiet, handles well for its size, and the suspension in stock form isn’t too rough. In the 15k+ miles i’ve put on it, I only had one minor issue where I had to replace a destroyed plastic boot on one of the front axles (4Matic), but everything else has been only for maintenance. I have had no issues whatsoever with the car itself. The only option I wish it had was the adaptive LED light system but the standard headlights work better than many upgraded headlights from other manufacturers. If anyone is thinking about buying a W212, especially the 2014-16 facelift, don’t think twice and just do it! You will not regret it.
W212 and W204 best carts ever made. Seen some with 700k and never had any major repairs only normal maintenance, oil changes ,tune ups ,brakes etc,
What I have seen is that the regular headlights are better for the city someone made a comparison and noticed that only high beams look better with the adaptive lights.
Great for the highway tho..
Hey, I’m about to buy a 2014 E350 Luxury model and I wanted to know what are the maintenance cost looking like yearly?
@@iamjshep3It’s tough to say exact, it all depends on how much driving you do and where you live. Also, how well the previous owner took care of the car is a huge factor. When I owned the car I put 7-9k miles per year and live in FL so the car was not abused or in rough conditions at all. All maintenance I basically did early since I never hit the factory 10k mile interval. Found a great shop specializing in Mercedes, only charged me about $140 for Service A and about $350-500 for Service B depending on what needed to be done. A friend hooked up OEM front and rear pads including labor at $400. That’s all I really ever did runnings-costs wise, only oil changes, filter replacements, and the occasional fluid flushes of different components
Just bought one 2 days ago and i absolutely love the car! Smoothest ride of any car I’ve personally driven or owned
When someone is well educated on their car. Job well done.
Respect.

Apart from the nearly 180 degree hood opening.
This model will be iconic in 30 years.
the facelifted 212 is the first e-klass i like since the 123
Can't agree more.
I don't think so, but to each their own!
It’s a classic. Totally agreed
It is now. I get compliments on it nearly every day.
As a Benz technician that is the one car you see in the shop that only comes in for maintenance. Literally the only times I have to do diagnosis work is if there's rat damage and you have to repair some of the wiring😂
What’s your thoughts on the W204?
That's great to hear. I own a 2013 e 350 avant-garde with leather seats, not leatherette. Magnificent car
@Sean any C class model was pretty good. The GLK IS really good too. Just maintain the motor, trans, and suspension and it usually drives like new
Can you please advise how long the fabric roof is likely to last on convertible W212s and if necessary is it extortionately expensive to repair or replace?
@@popshaines5492 great question! I used to do convertible tops on these cars especially the 211/212 like you mentioned. As far as longevity in my opinion, not long. The string used to operate the top when it’s on motion tend to weather and snap as they age. I remember back when that model came out if you had ELW coverage you got it done for free but as far as upfront costs from the customer, I think the price ranges from $900-$1400. I could be wrong, but the labour pays up to around 8 hours and the top itself is expensive. You can still drive the car without using the top so it’s up to your discretion. Hopefully it just doesn’t leak😂
I love my 2016 E350 sport. It has great gas mileage when traveling. Reliable and safe luxury car. Mine is steel gray with black interior. I get many compliments!
If it's a 350 diesel it sounds like my car. Grey metallic and black leather. This car really deserves a 6 cyl engine! I had a 220 diesel before which was also a good car but it's a completely different and more luxurious feeling when you have that smooth effortless power.

maintenance cost?
I own a black one. Love the front of my car and it’s extremely reliable. Absolutely amazing car. The engine of well taken care of, is an absolute winner.
I own a 2014 E350, and it is by far the best-made car I've ever driven (longtime BMW owner, btw.) On the occasion I've had to take it in for service and was given a newer next-gen E-Class, I found it not as nice. It's hard to describe, but the W212 feels more like a Merc from the 1970s or 80s, back when they'd go a million kilometers just to get the badge.
If you found the next generation not as nice then Idk what nice is? Thats a crazy statement cuz that generation is beautiful.
I have several Mercedes models but like the W212 best.
@@Inferno45it's his opinion, you don't have to agree with it.
I also think the w212 is one of the best
@@Inferno45It feels disposable which was not a trait of old time Mercedes.
Never have treated a vehicle as well as my E350, certainly a special car. She is a 2012 with only 48K miles, just gorgeous.
Wow 48k , that’s great mileage for a 2012.
Just bought a 2011 E550 with 37000mi this past February from the original owner. I love it & keep it tucked away in my garage... Weekends only.
@@realnewyorkcityliving2065My 2013 E-350 just clocked 58,000 miles two nights ago.
I don't think there is a reason to hide your precious'es and deny yourself the pleasure. I got my E350 with 300000+ KMs on it. You'd never tell.
It is a 3L v6 Diesel version. Just replaced both front airmatic struts. Still love it :D
I have 2010 w212 E250 10 years old still new, exterior champagne colour, black leather interior
Hi mate , is it Diesel or petrol?
Great video. The amount of changes done for the facelift in 2013 was huge. You never see a body panel changing shape in a facelift. No wonder it cost Mercedes around $1 billion. I remember reading somewhere that it won "Best facelift" that year.
And the old one is way better!
lol, noob !
I am glad i own this car...is speackless...sublime car...i had w210 till now...for me Mercedes is by far the most beautiful car...elegant...confortable...safety...in 4 great words "the Best or nothing"
I drive a 2014 E350 base. The car is awesome, it runs like new and I have 170k miles. Normal maintenence and it runs great. The pleather seats are not desirable but the rest works the way they should.
That’s also the single thing I don’t like about it, I use the chemical guys leather spray and spray them down and it smells like real leather at least lmao.
That MB Tex is not just any pleather though. It will outlast leather easily and look new forever. It also doesn't have any of the problems associated with pleather like turning brittle due to sun exposure. My experience with it was an E class that I bought over 30 years ago but I doubt that it has changed.
I miss my previous my 212, I own w213 now but I like w212 better. Nice video!
Great vehicle! I have the 2014 Sport and it’s a real head turner! Just turned over 60,000 miles!
The best Mercedes is w124.
This says more about your age than whether it was really the best. And before you ask, I am extremely familiar with it. I learned to drive on a W124 and we still own that car. Others will argue that the W123 was the best.
@@TheShotokan6 Thank you mate. You're right.Greetings from Bulgaria😃
W124 is by far the best
Last true Mercedes.
This says your age stupid baby.Who is the best merc? S class 2020.😂😂😂
.. and W140
The first model w212 totally rocked with the double headlights. Unfortunately, the interior sucked...busy, ugly and cheap. It seems to be the theme now with ipads stuck on with blu tack. The steering wheels are particularly horrendous
What you said is perfectly correct . Only design lasted for 6 years is w211.
WTF? The pre facelift has the same interior like the facelift.
Probably the last the of the great standard Mercedes Benzes. Doubt if we'll ever see its like again.
Iv also reviewed my w212 before selling it. Ur welcome to check it out on my channel :)
I'm on my 4th one 3 sports and one wagon, great vehicles and much better than 5 series BMW
Love the stance of these while parked....it looks poised.
Edit.....I was about to comment on this beaut of a car, then I saw I already had, months ago! Oh dear.
2012 W212 E220 owner here. Have it for 3 years other than throttle valve and oil cooler I had no issues. Still puts a smile on my face when I drive it.
It's a tank
I've got a Dark Blue 2009 W212 200 CDI with about 100K Miles on it. I got it chip-tuned to 190HP / 470nm and I got a big smile on my face every time I drive it. I like the classic look and the interior, it's just show class and quality. Never thought it, but a big MB fan. Love that damn car.
I'm so lucky. I have one of the very early W212s.....a 2009 model E350Cdi Avantgarde Blue Efficiency Automatic saloon WITH the star on the hood - pre the facelift model featured here and imo better looking at the front end. More masculine. Now 11 years old with 108,000 miles and drives superbly. Last year, when it was JUST under 10 years old, I was advised the rear subframe was badly corroded. Mercedes replaced it, FOC. How about THAT for over-and-above customer service?!! I didn't even buy it new, it was almost 4 years old with 39,000 on the clock when I got it! If I ever change, what maker's car do you think I'm gonna buy??!!
Same here MB replacing rear subframe on my 2009 212
. I know MB made a big mistake when Helmut Wherner was MD ( he said we make our cars too well) so he cut back on quality resulting in the 210 rotting everywhere. However, I bought a 210 estate new and boy did it rot ,during my 11 year ownership it had 2 new front wings, 2 new rear doors , a repair to the tailgate and eventually a new tailgate , new front strut mounts and a new rear subframe. By this time and 100,00 miles the paint work was understandably subject to shade differences as the car had been repaired at different times during its life. However, in view of this I complained again and consequently MB repainted the whole car. All this was carried out FOC
I owned a 2011 E 350 CDI Station Wagon! Nice car. Good times!
Literally the 2013 will always be my favorite, it looked gorgeous and mean
I have a 2013... i love it man so fucking reliable and still keeps up with most vehicles and dusts others on the road today
@Josh Jackson my dad has one and honestly I don’t like it compared to the w211 and w213

@@Kmasse8 it looks gorgeous, last true Mercedes E class for me, as design.
I’ve been driving the AMG version E63 of this car
With all the specifications , bells and whistles. Man i would never change this car.
What year? How manymiles? Any big repairs?
How about any issues?
In my books the W212 is the best Mercedes ever built and it is also one of the most beautiful mass produced cars. Owned 2012 E350 for 6 years and the only problems it had was with the engine ventilation system that had to be replaced and engine mounts (this was a costly repair). The car is built like a tank, it’s silent, comfortable and has great handling for a heavy car (yes it’s nowhere as fun or fast as a BMW M135 on track but it’s not designed for that purpose). I find the facelifted version even more beautiful.
I think the W211 was best in terms of build quality and aged very well. I have the W212 facelift but there are rattles and creaks in places and the ride isn't the softest. You need the air suspension. Maybe it's my tyres. But it's not the AMG package. It's the Avant-garde. Would've liked softer.
I got the non-sport version with hood star for the long stroke suspension's. The sport model is extra bumpy on US freways with skinny tires that bend rims in pot holes... they sale a "rim insurance" for that.
My 350 cdi 2010 elegance with non air suspension drive as a new one and it is very soft , i dont like air suspension not good in long term.
Idk... Really like the looks of w211 been looking for a good 2006 E55 AMG.
I have a 2010 w212 with the dystronic plus and it is the best thing ever
@THE KING no problems just buy it bro the w212 is a gem that mercedes accidentally made too reliable haha
THE KING I have an 11 E350, I like it but I wished I’d gotten the E550. My 350 is a little slow for my driving style and i wish I had the air ride. My E has been basically trouble free except for a nagging a/c issue, since I’ve owned the car the last 5 yrs the a/c would just start blowing full heat thru the vents in the summer. My sorry dealer told me it needed a new compressor but in June my Indy mechanic looked at and said it was a sensor, $150 to purchase $50 to put on, compressor $2k. The car has 156k miles on it and going strong. The car has stacked tires so I go thru rear tires about every 20k mikes. I had an e46 but the e drives nothing like it. I had continentals on it initially but switches to Michelin, softer and quieter ride. Next car will be a benz, probably E450 had one as loaned and liked it and also had an e350 it was slow didn’t like it. I forgot to add that I have a CLS 550, totally different animal than the E350. It too has been reliable without breaking the bank.
I have the exact same car and color exterior and interior in wagon format sport package, I get raves and comments on the beautiful color 😎😌
Sorry, nothing like a E-124. Now it's all based on technology and the difference among cars isn't significant. This model looks very nice though.
I have a 190e and this 212 generation of E class. This model is good quality and well made. Not all modern cars are tech packed junk
W211 is clearly still holding up over 300k just fine.
I bought my 2014 E350 back in August of 2013. I drive it until this very day and never had any issues with the car. It’s very reliable, sporty, has enough power, and is practical.
I have the 2016 one same brown the video like colour
Great video. The only gripe I have about mine is the soft touch coating on plastic pieces like buttons and steering wheel. Pretty minor issues that don't affect the functionality, just kind of annoying at first then one learns to live with it.
This personaly the best looking benz ever made in my opinion. Its not too agresive but it gives some sporty looks. I own a W211 E220CDI and it kinda does look booring. Although i installed android power command so its a lot more modern now. But the W212 restyling E220CDI Avantgard is my next benz for sure
Which brand of Android Power Command are you using ?
My 2016 W212 "night edition" (one of the last made) is my favourite modern car I own. Only the Command SatNav lets it down (though I did get it into a space the autopark refused last week :P )
I've borrowed a W213 from my local dealer and really disliked it, so am sticking for now :)
I own 2 W211s (03 E500 and 07 E550) and my next car will for sure be a W212, either the twin turbo E550 or E63. W212 is my favorite generation E class
My 2008 w211 has been so reliable and looks so good it’s hard to give up, I’m thinking about the pre facelift w212 to keep the quad headlight look. Hard decision

Love my ‘16 E250 4-Matic Bluetec. I imagine it will stay in my stable as long as the mid-80s 240D-300D/TD vehicles which are now approaching 35 years of age. It is marvelous, trouble free machine.

obviously the W124 is the best Mercedes ever built if you consider every aspect but the w212 is not far behind in my opinion.
"Highest quality materials..." i have a W212 and I'll call bs on that statement. Plenty of cheap plastic in the W212 interior. The highest material in a Mercedes is in a S class. Lets not kid ourselves.
Yeah saw the dash in w212 looks cheap, that was in prefacelift. W211 dash doesnt look so cheap and plasticky. Is your pre facelift?
@@xdanano yes mine is a 2013. Practically identical except mine has the horizontal pleats which is the vinyl seats. The vinyl seats always split the in the seam. My parking brake release handle broke off when I released the brake because its made out of cheap plastic. In comparison, my 97 LS400 and 99 GS400s plastics are thick and durable. Huge difference in material quality when you compare the W212 interior to the old Lexus interiors. I don't remember the W211 being this cheap in the inferior.

I have a 2013 that I got new and now has 218,000 miles and everything still works. Other than maintenance, brakes and tires only minor issue was the thermostat housing leaked so got that and the water pump replaced at around 185000 miles. Going to run it till it dies!
Forgot to mention I did get the motor and transmission mounts replaced at 210,000 miles. Had some slight vibration and that took care of the problem.

@@rossgoodwin2700 other than replacing a pulley and replacing the battery not much in the shop for repair just my usual service, 100,400 miles on it
i own a 2011 (pre-facelift) e350 luxury model. my mom owns a 2014 (facelift) e350 sport model. i definitely like my car a lot more. i dont really like the e-class having the ornament on the grill, plus it makes it look like a c-class lol. both of them have 17in wheels with the same tires, but the luxury model rides much smoother. the sport model handles a little bit better obviously but at the cost of a stiffer and bumpier ride. in my opinion, the luxury model still handles pretty great. i dont think the sport suspension is good because it makes the car less comfortable (which is the intention of an e-class) while not improving the handling significantly. this is coming from a person with a sensitive body lol.
i agree with mercedes' mechanical quality improving. the w212 is pretty much issue free. we have only done regular maintenance + wear/tear on both e350's.
but i dont agree with the interior quality. my mom's 2014 model is newer but the interior actually has squeaks and annoying rattles already lol - it definitely has to do with that bumpy sport suspension. the driver's seat bottom is torn. idk i just cant fully describe it but the w211 has a better interior and a waaaay comfier seat. i just dont like the interior quality of the w212.
the brakes are powerful and smooth, you can tell that comfort is the top priority in any e-class. audi and bmw brakes feel really touchy which is good for sporty response, but the e-class has a more "progressive" and linear feel to it. once you get used to it it's pretty comfy in stop&go traffic.
acceleration is good, definitely enough for everyday usage. if it's well-maintained the gear shifts are imperceptible and power delivery is smooth. in 2012 they used a new direct injection engine which is more fuel efficient and much faster. it's fun, but the biggest drawback is that it's louder and grumblier. the engines before 2012 are much quieter.
i know i make the sport model sound bad, but overall this generation e-class is still great. it feels solid when you drive it. super stable on the highway. everyone likes to fall asleep in my car whenever i drive them in it. great visibility all around. this car is definitely well-rounded just like the reviewer said.
I have a 2014 sport and the ride feels very comfortable even with 19" low pro tires, no rattles or interior wear and tear yet and in my opinion even with the star grill it looks nothing like a C class, the W213 however looks just like the W205 C class, very similar headlight, tail light and sillouhette
@@invincible201xxx the front of the 2014 ones do look make it look like C class
W212 pre facelift is wayyyyy better.
If I wanted a C Class, I would've brought one. Meh.
@Martin Svensson I gave the interior of the W212 an overhaul. It looks leaps and bounds better than stock
Yes Audi's have touchy brakes
I have a E550 2 Door Coupe..I am still learning..More info on the coupe would be great and helpful.
I call the preface lift The Diamond, it looks like one, and those hips are genius
The W212-1? I'm sitting in one right now watching this and these are amazing cars indeed!
W211 E class pre Blue Tech ( screwed up performance ) my 2007 Sport with Brabus chip is far superior !! ( my opinion after owning it from new !! 😎😎
Seeeesh how much they charge you for the Brabus flash??? I’ve only seen one Brabus tuned AMG in my neighborhood and maaan it sounds mean! Only true Benz Enthusiasts know what Brabus is.
W211 2007 320CDI Sport with Brabus remap ( pre blue tech crap ) 42mpg motorway fast Excellent car still Magic in 2020 😎😎😎
I have a w212.
Best car ever.👍👍👍
I love this car! But the last year that it had the hood Ornament (pre-face) is my favorite!
Lux facelift has a hood ornament
W212 hasnt been out long enough to be time proven.
Ive owned both new and old and nothing touches the w124
ah, a man of culture and knowledge i see.
Is have a 86 260 man its a monster stil drives great its everything you need with a car
Nothing probably ever will the culture is throw away now nothings made to be kept in cherished and taken care of You lease it beat it up turn it in, not even the new Toyotas and Hondas give the exceptional reliability that they used to.
@@thetechlibrarian At first I did not understand your primordial speak. Then I read between the lines with my own imaginary punctuation, and yes you are correct on all points sir.
This Mercedes is indeed the best after a w124.
But the quality of the w124 will never come again.
Mercedes made a big mistake by letting the nose go down too much.
A current Mercedes no longer gives the king feeling of the past..
The current E class seems to be 50% plastic.
I sure freakin love mine!
The e500/550 is rocket with the 4,7 biturbo, with tuning it can make the same power as e63
Yep I have one! Thanks to eurocharged its 580hp
what about transfer case issues with 4matic
Mines from Japan its rear wheel drive only
@@paulharris5950 ok im only scared of this issue otherwise i was buying one tom here in Canada
@Martin Svensson there were few cases for w212 which requires the transmission be also replaced if transfer case issue pops up also another weird issue which completely threw me of was camshaft sensor leaking oil and damaging engine wire harness repair could be 7k to 12k and for transmission around 8k not sure how common these problems are most likely pretty rare but scared me tho
The real successor of the W124. So much details and a very clean look. This is how sovereignty has to look.
Iv also reviewed my w212 before selling it. Ur welcome to check it out on my channel :)

Thank you for this comprehensive video. +1 Sub
I have had this car from next to new for a number of years now, added a few bits and pieces such as Carbon spoiler and front lip splitter. Very difficult to let it go unless the Mercedes E class goes fully electric in my opinion, definitely the best looking E-class of all time.
E class going full electric isn’t a good thing

I agree 1000%. I have a W204 C300 but love the way the W212 (Pre LCI or LCI) looks and drives. Plenty of space, great design that's aged beautifully and mechanically sound though one very important thing. Change the transmission fluid every 40k and for sure it will go several hundreds of thousands of miles without issue. Your best bet is a non airmatic model which lowers servicing costs and complexity.
Love mine to pieces. 2016 E400 with an Easy to tune engine from Eurocharged 460HP 520Torque!! Drives like an E53 amg, the car is extremely comfortable safe and everything inside and out it’s top notch built!! Mercedes really upped their game since 2010 on the e class! 2021 is an absolute monster won Car of the Year by MotorTrend

had 124 ,200d , than 210 250 diesel , than 220 cdi 212 , HANDS DOWN 212 IS THE BEST MERC I DROVE , HAD 213 FOR 2 months 220d sold it and bought volvo s90 d4 , still nothing beats w212 220 cdi avantgarde , NOTHING
MINE WAS PREFACELIFT 2009
I have a w212 2012 e350 cdi 57000 miles black on black amg spec, nothing has gone wrong with it in the 7 years I’ve owned it,it’s still on its original battery and I service it myself in accordance with Mercedes service intervals,70 on the motorway it’s doing over 50 mpg,I’m 60 now and I don’t think I will ever sell it.
Correction on quality: the 211 facelift definitely sits well (!) above any 212, not like it was stated here, below. Do not be fooled by some twinkling LEDs and infotainment extras here and there. The 212 also had major issues with the Diesel engines, costing the company about 1 Billion Euros. They are still not as easy to maintain as the ones in the 211, i.e. timing chain issues.
Try to get a 211 facelift and hang a poster of the 212 somewhere if you like it that much 😉
The W/S 211 facelift was the generation (after the 210) in which Mercedes already picked up on rebuilding the E-Class' reputation. The 211 facelift are still used as taxis here in Germany doing it with major mileage on them.
dw someday 212's /W207's(Coupe version) will be as cheap as w211's so you can finally afford one :D
The 0m651 engines did have issue where the timing chain can give problems but its not a huge problem. The cost to replace the chain is only 20% more expensive than any other vehicle with a chain. Its certainly not a deal breaker. This engine is otherwise very reliable and is capable of high mileage
Right sir! W211 face-lift got the real elegance of Merc!!!
Na the 5 speed box in a 211 can’t hold a candle to the 7g+ and also the v6 diesel is miles better than the inline 6 just as reliable but more efficient and powerful the 211 is a great car but the 212 is a definite step up pre facelift 212 still looks like a Mercedes’ the facelift 212 look crap I admit
We own four w210s. 2 are driven daily. 1 of the 4 i was in a huge high speed accident with and it literally saved me and my front passengers lives. I still own it for spare parts.
Only one issue in 3 of the 4 in more than 10 years.. Gearbox that gets water via the radiator. If i had done the separate cooler mod sooner it would have been only one car so its partially my fault.
Further just normal services were done and i replaced a regulator on an alternator. Rock solid indestructible engines.
Not a single rattle or squeak in any of my w210s so as far as im concerned they were well built as well.
I know the w210 has a bad reputation because of rust in usa etc but where i live that never ever happened. You wont find a single spot of rust on any w210 here in South Africa.

Peter the E class fan ❤️
the pre-facelift model looks SO much better and in my opinion they should've kept it like that.
No it doesn't.. it is a really nice vehicle but the interior quirks before the facelift like the clock at the speedometer are not aging well.
@absolutium I like the pre face-lift to.....it gives me the feeling of the 90's and early 2000's
@@markbulgarin5805 I get what you are saying yet I feel the same about the CLS 2012 which is the same idea with some details already corrected.
