That was a particularly engaging episode. I liked the multiple areas tested, jerky sidebar, different methods used, and of course the honest personalities. Just great production and content.
it is neat to see the progression your channel has taken from years ago to now, you have improved your methods and techniques and its really quite cool to watch
Hey Chris thanks for everything you have taught us! Thanks to you I found my first gold deposit yesterday in my home state of Michigan. 39 pieces in 5 pans!
Fun video, Chris, Gad Zee and Mick. Creepy doll arm scared the hell out of me. Am hoping that the security team gets a share of the shiny. Thanks to all for taking us along for the adventure.
I love my little rocker box. You inspired me a couple of years ago to research and build one. It works very well out in the desert and uses waaaaaay less water than a recirculating set up. It is slower but I love it. Thanks Chris. Heavy pans!
In case anyone else wanted to try jerky: My personal tip would be to add dry rub afterwards. I like a bit of a flavour explosion when I make jerky, so I add some hot and sweet seasoning after its done drying. Brown sugar, salt, cayenne pepper and a small amount of red chili flakes, and rub it in.
That is probably one of the best stool samples I've ever seen in my life that's just funny that's just funny I'm a Vietnam vet and you just tracked me up I love your Channel
As an experienced rocker box builder and user I would recommend putting a few riffles on your top mat and have the matting between them (I usually use 12mm square dressed pine) and miners mass as the mat. All of this will increase the top mat recovery and help it spread the material out, which increases the bottom recovery as well (ie. run more material or clay-y stuff between clean outs) while still being a more authentic rocker box
Love the old steel pan and rocker box! I found a little .42 gram nugget exactly like your smelted gold, crazy how dense it can be. Looked like it would've weighed half of that
I love your old school and low tech vids Chris, they encourage hobbyists to give prospecting a go. Im hoping you will go thru the puddle dregs in dry season. Any gold lost from the rocker is in there somewhere! The jerky recipe looks tasty. I'd add a tad more liquid bread and chilli. All added to good Aussie grass fed beef. Yes!
Hello sunshine. You're truly awesome Thank you for the adventure. Love the stool sample. Now I have to make one for the job. For when I called in sick and I'm not. Happy Days. Can't wait to see you in the next one, much love always
Great energy you have, just what you need to be a prospector. I had that energy in my 20s and I’m going out again shortly and I’m going to try to tap back into that energy 20 plus years later, thanks for your videos. Love the gold.
Once you get out there you'll probably find a reserve. Especially if on the gold. )) Maybe just don't plan a big long tiring trip straight up, expecting to have the same energy as your 20s. Then it might surprise you. Or you come stay at my place where you can walk a few minutes to the nearest creek and pan, highbank or detect most anywhere and be one the gold. ))
Classification is also important not just for particles competing in the sluice but for the actual force of water required to move the particles to be different enough to allow separation. Considering a round-ish particle of black sand, and similarly shaped piece of gold, the gold can have 1/3 the diameter before the force becomes the same. Classifying to 1/2 causes there to always be a significant difference allowing the gold to be separated.
I love your videos man, I’ve been trying to prospect here in Utah, I either suck really bad and need to quit lol or where I’m trying just don’t have gold. Very fun to watch you. Thanks for the content
Also. Jerky….. I’ve been making it for years now. From all sorts of meat, beef, kangaroo, rabbit. Love it all, the worst part is my kids also love it. So I don’t get to eat as much as I’d like haha. I have a good recipe to try if you like. I also bought a dehydrator last year. Best investment ever.
@@VoGusProspecting 1-1.5kg thinly sliced beef top round 3/4 cup Worcestershire sauce 3/4 cup soy sauce 2 teaspoons freshly ground black pepper 1 rounded tablespoon smoked paprika 1/4 teaspoon cayenne 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes 1 teaspoon garlic powder 1 teaspoon onion powder 1 generous tablespoon honey - Marinate for 6 hours or more. Then in the dehydrator or oven at 75-85 degrees for around 5-6 hours. If you like more spice, add more spice. Also if I run out of smoked paprika you can sub in a tablespoon of Smokey BBQ sauce. This tends to be a little sweeter though.
I'm really glad to see you took advantage of the water at your special spot. Really cool maybe a push broom when you dry wash? As always good luck and God Bless.
Next time you get the rocker box out you should wear period specific clothing to be more 1800's authentic and maybe take a carton of eggs to trade for gold.
When you head out to those dry benches this summer, take a little car whisk broom and small dust pan. You just may end up with more than what a shovel can get you.
I made a wicked rocker box years ago , l left it out side the back door l was away for a couple of days and when I returned home I found it in mums garden full of plants, it did look good but no prospecting for me, LOL. Love u mum
That’s more than half a gram I reckon it’s .89 back to the smelt…or not lol. Well gadzee and mick in one video very cool and I enjoyed the rocker box more than you did (it didn’t affect my old man back one bit😬) can’t wait till it drys out to see the dry washing great episode thanks for sharing see you on the next one👍🏼👊🏼

I get good cut of meat have the butcher slice it and do the same as you at home but oven is 150 degrees for about 8hrs and jerky last longer in containers or I borrow my besties dehydrator when I do I get extra meat and make her some to I also dry veggies so when I'm out in the back country I can make a soup over campfire and and drying helps on pack room

The rocker box seems a little easier on your back than panning because you don’t have to bend over as much. Pretty neat design!

It just goes on and on my friend, some people started singing it not knowing what it was, and they will continue singing it forever just because!

Awesome video mate! If you have any friends that are into deer hunting try and grab some venison to make jerky, it's bloody good stuff.

How efficient is a rocker box vs a modern method? Could you do a video of panning the tails on each ?
I've already made those videos. Check out my play lists for them.

What kind of pets do you have on that Rocker Box when you're doing that
With the fine gold, have you ever tried a drum type processing method?
It has kind of a nutty flavor!

Chis the main reason why the old timers used rocker boxes was because Minelab t'was not available back in the day. Troy from Kalgoorlie. 🤗
Hahaha, it was all Garret back then.
What a fun video!
At the 1:00 minute mark, it looks like there is a coin in the scoop of dirt you put in the rocker box
I hope the new dog doesn't have a stool problem like you had

I’m not convinced the old timers had miners moss.
Still awesome video..
Thats not miners moss
Does miner's moss work as well as or much better than burlap? How do you know?
