Thank you , you are one of the best instructors out there , the presentation composition are perfect .Love the Rigging series u did , wish to get an update with quicker methods for rigging
How can I add a new modifier to affect only specific regions of hair? for example when clump modifier is added it affects every part of the hair. yes the top is nice but the sides do not look nice. How can I add a new modifier so that only the top side can affect it?
Awesome!!:) this truly seems more production suitable !! great improvements on xgen !:) May i ask, if there's a way to add Dynamics on the groom(or is still nhair?) and if using the layer system is possible to tweak the simulated cache afterwards?
See our Interactive Groom Animation video (ruclips.net/video/7vx38PxW1nw/видео.html) for help with the former. For the latter, the best way to do that would be to add an additional Sculpt layer over the guides, make your edits to the hairstyle on the frame you want to edit, then fade the layer in gradually.
Is there a way to save masked sections to groups to access without having to remask? This seems good, but in order to have better control of sections of the hair when working with longer grooms it's pretty useful.
Maya isn't sli compatible, is it? Would be nice if there was a way to utilize both my graphics cards. Have two geforce gtx 1080's, but even just using one tends to over heat after a little while. Could be a compatibility issue, because I'm sure it's more than capable of handling the job. Appreciate the support.
When i plug in a layered texture node that uses a noise and a 3d paint texture into the mask of a noise it doesn't seem to work. Is the layered texture not supported with Xgen Interactive Grooming?
I'm on a mac, and when I try to use the tools it shows the circle way off from my cursor. And when clicking to use the tool on the hair the circle moves even further away, like somehow the pivot isn't centred to my mouse or something. Any suggestions on how to fix it?
Great feature! For a curve it is possible to pick the end CV (Select > Last CV ) and move it with soft select. This was possible with Guides in the old xGen. Is there a way to do the same with either splines or inGuides for the new interactive Grooming? Would be really useful.
Although Interactive Grooming isn't a spline based workflow, you can mimic that behavior rather easily using the comb brush (or any brush really). Just change the shape of the falloff chart to have a very steep falloff around the cursor, then shrink the cursor size as appropriate. When you brush over the hairs you'll get the same result.
Thanks for the tutorial. I'm having a problem though - once I selected generate > create interactive groom splines, the description appeared in the xgen editor window, but I can't see any hairs. My scene is scaled for a 6-foot tall character. Any advice? Cheers!
wait..render in arnold for best results? I like how we have to buy something else before it will look good. :'/ Tools going in the right direction atleast. Looking foward to working with it. Hope they continue to improve it without changing it every other version.
If I'm not wrong, it will be included in Maya but only for basic renders. If you want to do animations you will have to buy a batch render tool from Arnold website, as it's not working with Maya's batch render option
Xgen is very nice and the interactive groom works excellent, However i don't use it in production Cause Every time I reopen the scene the viewport don't show any preview, if i press render the hair is there, but in the viewport he is bald. Is it some setting i've missed? IT's very frustrating and not useable that way since i can't edit the hair blindly :/, Read that many people use xgen but no clue how they get it to work good with their pipelines
Are you seeing this issue with the old XGen groom, or the new interactive groom? The old groom relied on a lot of references, which could cause this issue to happen when those references broke. If you're seeing it with the interactive groom, you might want to double check that you're viewing with Viewport 2.0 and that your video card drivers are up to date.
It depends on the complexity of the image. Like I can render a 1080p sphere in a few seconds, but a more complex scene with IBL lighting, complex geometry, shadows, etc can take minutes or even hours.
Hi thanks for this great video but i have one problem when create more than 1 description on the same object or any other object. I cannot comb the second description and i also tried selecting second description and then tried to comb it still does not work. can you please tell what should i do?
Make sure to click the "Edit" button in the second description's Sculpt Layer (via the Interactive Groom Editor). You always have to specify which layer you are working on.
Hi, Thanks for this video but I have a problem, every time I try to activate collide with meshes Maya just stop working all together. Can you please suggest something that might be the cause of that ?
Try selecting the mesh you're colliding with and running a Cleanup operation on it. If the mesh is too difficult to calculate collisions for, Maya may consume a lot of resources trying to do it. Alternatively, try testing it with less dense hair first, then slowly ramp up the density to see where it fails.
I've got Maya 2017 just for these grooming tools and I can't render in it because Arnold has problems with my CPU. Also GoZ plug-in for Zbrush is very troublesome in this version of Maya. What can I do?? Is there a fix, possibly any way I could get the grooming brushes in Maya 2016? If not is there any way I could import Zbrush Fibermesh curves into Xgen and have them work as Xgen curves?? The reason being is that I need to convert the Xgen hair guides into planes (For use in a game engine). It's extremely important to be able to do this. Can you please help? Thanks
You can actually convert interactive grooms to default splines, via this procedure: help.autodesk.com/view/MAYAUL/2017/ENU/?guid=GUID-D239C6EC-D569-49C9-ACD0-BBBE5E32AF7C You can then use the Generate menu to convert those splines to polys for rendering.
Hi i did this and the hair came out great! However when i move the mesh the hair doesnt move. Basically it looks like the hair and my mesh are two different objects i just need to figure out a way to combine them or something to attach the hair back on the head :(
some parts of my dog are almost insensitive to the comb and other tools compared to others parts, and those areas are not even symmetrical while my mesh is. Is there a way to fix that ?
Is it possible you've frozen the hairs accidentally with the Freeze brush? Check in your Tool Settings under "Display Settings" that "Show Frozen" is enabled. Alternatively, I'd try making a copy of just your mesh, then transferring the hair to the new model (help.autodesk.com/view/MAYAUL/2018/ENU/?guid=GUID-0F5E5E1D-2C1A-4B16-A402-76F9EAA3FB03) to see if you get the same issue. For symmetry, did you turn on Symmetry in the Tool Settings before grooming? Note that brush symmetry is not tied into the global symmetry of other tools like Move/Rotate/Scale. You have to activate it on an interactive grooming brush specifically.
Hello. I'm using Maya 2017 and the hair in Arnold render is black. I've tried to use the aiHair but it doesn't has shown on viewport 2.0. What can I do if Arnold is my main render?
It's happening on the Render View. When I close and re open Maya it resolves. 3 times render was ok, the 4th, no, than I close and open the maya and returns render normal. Maybe it is real a bug :/
hello, can you help me .. I model my half character and then I use duplicate special to make another half my character, then I use this Xgen to make the hair part but it turn out the half part only have hair another half don't .. what should I do??
There is indeed, but the conversion must be done in Maya 2017 (Maya 2016 has no concept of the interactive groom and so doesn't know how to handle the data). help.autodesk.com/view/MAYAUL/2017/ENU/?guid=GUID-D239C6EC-D569-49C9-ACD0-BBBE5E32AF7C
Thanks. That sounds good. I hope that I can get close enough to the hair style created in 17. I do need to reduce the guides quite a bit (by a factor of 20-50) in order get this to work. I'm assuming that 16 will start lagging/crashing if I imported a greater value. Let's try!
Unfortunately it hasn't. But the good news is that you can easily convert from the old method to the new interactive method (see help.autodesk.com/view/MAYAUL/2017/ENU//?guid=GUID-96EB31D2-76E5-4F8F-91B0-5CDF98EAC19F)
That said, I would check the 2017 release notes if I were you, to see if specific undo bugs have been addressed (there were a few different ones I believe).
This is such a great feature! Unfortunately when I click Create Interactive Groom Splines, Maya freezes without an error message. My computer is more capable of handling it, and my drivers are all current. Any Suggestions?
NVIDIA Quadro K5000, and NVIDIA Tesla K20c. I have updated to the latest service pack but I made a mistake when updating. I installed service pack 2 and 3, and then realized I forgot to install the 1st one. So I installed it and my desktop app says all updates are installed. Do you think that would cause the problem?
Does anyone used the transfer to other mesh function? It crashes all the time I trie to use it....Is there any possibility to get my fur from a base character (alembic without rig/animation) to my animated character (alembic cache with animation) -> the mesh stays the same
In the old XGen its easy to choose another renderer and to apply a new shader to it. However this Interactive Grooming doesn't seam to have it. I apply a new shader directly onto the Description but it won't render. Any ideas?
At this time, interactive grooms only render in Arnold. That said, you can apply custom shaders to the hair by assigning them to the descriptionShape node.
Wish I could display a screen capture. But, all that appears is curve to spline, displacement, guide, linear wire, noise, scale, sculpt and spline cache. Very puzzling.
Do you mean you can see the scalp geometry through the head geometry? If so, you can actually just hide the scalp (Ctrl + H) and the hair will remain visible.
that great , but when exporting my model out of maya to unity there no hair only the body ..... is there any process after your video to make the model and the hair stick together as a single unit?
You'll need to convert the hair primitives to polygon cards using this technique: help.autodesk.com/view/MAYAUL/2018/ENU/?guid=GUID-33279585-C22F-4E3E-880F-6EFD3D0BFA9A
after I clicked interactive groom splines, it said "Mesh polySurface3Shape has non-manifold vertices", and wouldn't create hairs. What does that mean, and how do I fix it?
It means you need to clean up your mesh first. Select the scalps geometry then go to Mesh > Cleanup. Under Remove Geometry, enable "non-manifold geometry" and that should get rid of the bad faces. In general, nonmanifold geometry includes things like holes or overlapping faces.
I made hair quickly using this new xgen, it was cool! but when I rendered it with vray (vray hair mtl) it doesn't show up...I really wanna know how to render it with VRay!
Hi when i click "Create Interactive Groom Splines" Nothing happens in my maya. In your video i can see Hair is created. Please can you tell me some solutions?
Try doing this on a primitive sphere. If it still doesn't work then it sounds like something is wrong with your Maya installation. You may need to re-install.
I tried same thing on sphere but still same results. Sometimes my mesh was disappeared while using xgen. I have not made that mesh hidden but still it got disappeared from viewport. When i check Outliner their i can see object details and xgen... Actually when i press Comb tool that time mesh gets disappeared from viewport. Then i have to close maya and re open maya new file to see mesh again. Can you please advice me what to do? Re install is also not working. :(
My system configuration: CPU intel Core i3 2100 @ 3.10GHz RAM 4GB single- channel DDR3 @ 665MHz Motherboard Intel corporation DH61WW Graphic card 1024MB ATI Radeon HD 4300/4500 Series Storage of 1 TB
Sounds like something is wrong with your Arnold install. Maybe try disabling and re-enabling the plugin from the Plug-in Manager or clearing your prefs.
i need an animation of a hair growing is one is a woman with no hair and hair starts to grow how could i do to match you and pay you to do this would you like or know someone who would?
every time I see their demo with these ugly human head model, I start to think, do autodesk knows now to make character, animation, or cg at all? if not then how do they know how to make tools for us? have they ever created any full animation or game production?
You'll need to convert to polygons first since xgen primitives are not compatible with Unity. help.autodesk.com/view/MAYAUL/2017/ENU/?guid=GUID-33279585-C22F-4E3E-880F-6EFD3D0BFA9A
Sir, i need a tutorial in which you don't use xgen for hair and fur just the base for hair and paint the hair in photoshop by using alpha channel!! I want to know how the base will look like! On which i start painting hair in photoshop!! THANK YOU SIR!😎😎
I've try this tutorial and wondering how to render the hair in maya. Cause the result of my render looks so terrible. It doesn't shinny like ho wthe hair should be. Is anyone know how to render hair in maya ? I'm a begginer for this. Thank you in advance!
The Interactive Groom is assigned a physicalHair shader by default. However, if you hold right-mouse over it you can assign it a new shader. My recommendation would be an "aiStandardHair" shader. You can then use the shader presets to set it to a common hair color, or just customize it yourself. Also, when rendering, make sure you're working with proper lighting. I'd recommend an aiSkyDomeLight with an HDR file applied to its color. that's going to greatly affect the reflections and shadows in your hairstyle.
If the geometry with the hair isn't deforming (like a head scalp), you can just parent constrain it to the head joint. If it is deforming (like an arm, or chin, or even a cartoony squash/stretch scalp), you'll need to skin the geometry to the skeleton.
Admittedly, I'm not the world's greatest groom artist (yes, that's actually an entire sub-profession now). Luickily, I did get contributions from one here = ) : ruclips.net/video/WQ53QpTDx9Q/видео.html
Create the groom over the entire region, then use the inverse Density brush as shown at 5:20 to clear out an area. Set the Strength very low and then reapply density to make strays.
How do I import curves into the Interactive Groom Editor ? I have made many preset hair styles using polygon geometry so that I can quickly fit to character then extract curves from the geo edges.
The best way to do that is probably to convert them first to regular XGen splines (help.autodesk.com/view/MAYAUL/2017/ENU/?guid=GUID-1511C398-13D1-4D6D-917E-8E5A0A9C3C3A), then convert those to Interactive Splines (help.autodesk.com/view/MAYAUL/2017/ENU/?guid=GUID-96EB31D2-76E5-4F8F-91B0-5CDF98EAC19F).
i think Xgen Interactive Grooming doesn't support two things.. first the Stray effect second how to give specific areas a differnt color.. like for example a Tiger Hair Color.. when i assign texture into the physics hair shader it just affect the length of the hair not the area..
Are you sure it isn't your particular hairstyle that's making it look that way? Try setting up a new interactive groom on a simp;e sphere and then assign its root color a checker pattern or something. You should see the pattern very clearly spread across the primitives (I just tested this). However, as you comb and shape the hair, the regions pattern will become distorted as the colors are applied to the primitives themselves, not the regions the primitives inhabit.
Try deleting the history on the mesh first and making sure that all its faces point in the same direction (Select all the faces then go to Mesh Display > Conform).
Maya Learning Channel thank you for your reply but iam new in maya , could you please tell in steps how to delete history and how to make mesh faces in the same direction .. thanks in advance. ..
Actually, before doing that, can you try creating a regular polygon sphere and putting an XGen Interactive Groom on that? Does it work? If it doesn't, then you may have a problem with your install. If it does, then we can work on troubleshooting your specific scene.
Okay. Now before you apply hair, go to the Modeling menu set (top left). Then right-click your geometry and select Face. Select all the faces, then go to Mesh Display > Conform. Also go to UV > Automatic. Now try applying hair again.
Oops, it appears I forgot to upload this file. But you can just go into Maya's Content Browser (Windows > General Editors > Content Browser) to get a very similar bust.
Sorry I'm not sure what you mean. You mean as a render or a video? For the former, you can render it out using Arnold. Just make sure to add a light. For the latter, you can go to Windows > Playblast. You might want to animate the camera circling around the head first though.
@@magedatef7901 You'd need to convert them to polygon strips to make them compatible with FBX: help.autodesk.com/view/MAYAUL/2019/ENU/?guid=GUID-2CFBC23D-358F-4EDF-B51D-94796DFC2201
that was insanely calmingly simple and easy to understand and follow
Thank you , you are one of the best instructors out there , the presentation composition are perfect .Love the Rigging series u did , wish to get an update with quicker methods for rigging
Thank you sir. I love your every tutorial. Only Because of you, we learn something new. thanks a lot of
Wow. This looks amazing. I have never done hair groom, but I may try it on my current Elsa animation I am doing.
Are there plans to add the ability for the clumping mod to generate clumps based on guides? That's I think my biggest wish for IGS.
from the thumbnail i thought you were modeling a donald trump bust now THAT would be a challenge for hairsim and grooming :P
Thank you dude. You are like a boss in Maya.
How can I add a new modifier to affect only specific regions of hair? for example when clump modifier is added it affects every part of the hair. yes the top is nice but the sides do not look nice. How can I add a new modifier so that only the top side can affect it?
Why do so many people use the older Xgen?
Awesome!!:) this truly seems more production suitable !! great improvements on xgen !:)
May i ask, if there's a way to add Dynamics on the groom(or is still nhair?) and if using the layer system is possible to tweak the simulated cache afterwards?
See our Interactive Groom Animation video (ruclips.net/video/7vx38PxW1nw/видео.html) for help with the former. For the latter, the best way to do that would be to add an additional Sculpt layer over the guides, make your edits to the hairstyle on the frame you want to edit, then fade the layer in gradually.
This is GREAT! thank you for the explanation!:)
Is there a way to save masked sections to groups to access without having to remask? This seems good, but in order to have better control of sections of the hair when working with longer grooms it's pretty useful.
Thanks for the overview mister.I've watch the character modeling tutorials.
And I have no idea to model a hair.
What computer would work best for a lot of groom spines, but costs less than 1000 dollars?

yaaass!
When i plug in a layered texture node that uses a noise and a 3d paint texture into the mask of a noise it doesn't seem to work. Is the layered texture not supported with Xgen Interactive Grooming?
I have a problem with xgen guides, it is very thick and hair became incorrectly, could you help me?
How to make long braid tail or dreadlocks by Xgen?
I'm on a mac, and when I try to use the tools it shows the circle way off from my cursor. And when clicking to use the tool on the hair the circle moves even further away, like somehow the pivot isn't centred to my mouse or something. Any suggestions on how to fix it?

How do we select and isolate the head part alone??
Did you ever figure this out? Im stuckk
what is your computer configuration? what is the processor and what is the video card?

I'm running an Intel i7, dual 2.7Ghz with 16 gigs of ram and Quadro 1000M
Thanks for the tutorial. I'm having a problem though - once I selected generate > create interactive groom splines, the description appeared in the xgen editor window, but I can't see any hairs. My scene is scaled for a 6-foot tall character. Any advice? Cheers!
Hmm 6 foot should be easily doable. Are you viewing in Viewport 2.0? Is your Density Multiplier value non-zero?
Is it possible to render the Interactive Grooming hair in Renderman? I have been trying to render but it doesn't show up.
Hi! Is this also applicable in Maya 2016? Awesome video very informative
Actually sorry, this feature was introduced in Maya 2017.

yes, you can interactive render animations however if you wish to do any batch rendering then you have to buy am arnold license. :'/
Maya is getting more and more messy, I think I will never go back x) All hail to Zbrush lol (I kinda gave up on hairs for now x) )

Hi
thanks for this great video but i have one problem when create more than 1 description on the same object or any other object.

Hi i did this and the hair came out great! However when i move the mesh the hair doesnt move. Basically it looks like the hair and my mesh are two different objects i just need to figure out a way to combine them or something to attach the hair back on the head :(
Odd, it should. Did you parent the scalp to the head geometry? As long as the scalp moves, the hair should go with it.
I have a problem, when I add density multiplier all hairs disappear
some parts of my dog are almost insensitive to the comb and other tools compared to others parts, and those areas are not even symmetrical while my mesh is. Is there a way to fix that ?
Is it possible you've frozen the hairs accidentally with the Freeze brush? Check in your Tool Settings under "Display Settings" that "Show Frozen" is enabled.

It definitely sounds like a bug. Please log it from the Help menu.
When I put the viewport to DirectX 11 it completely broke my hair.
Have you updated your graphic card drivers to the latest version?
hello, can you help me .. I model my half character and then I use duplicate special to make another half my character, then I use this Xgen to make the hair part but it turn out the half part only have hair another half don't .. what should I do??
Hanani Zaini did you merge the two halves into a single mesh? Also, you may need to create new UVs on the result first.
Hi is there a way to use hair created with Interactive Grooming in Maya 2016 (Ep2)? Some sort of export from 17 to 16?
There is indeed, but the conversion must be done in Maya 2017 (Maya 2016 has no concept of the interactive groom and so doesn't know how to handle the data).
help.autodesk.com/view/MAYAUL/2017/ENU/?guid=GUID-D239C6EC-D569-49C9-ACD0-BBBE5E32AF7C

has the broken Undo function been fixed in the new version for the grooming tools? ( not this new interactive mode, but the old system )
That said, I would check the 2017 release notes if I were you, to see if specific undo bugs have been addressed (there were a few different ones I believe).
thanks for the reply, We've been using Houdini for hair recently mostly due to these bugs with the old xgen, will definitely check out 2017 updates.
This is such a great feature! Unfortunately when I click Create Interactive Groom Splines, Maya freezes without an error message. My computer is more capable of handling it, and my drivers are all current. Any Suggestions?
Have you updated to the latest service pack? If so, try clearing your preferences and trying again. Also what kind of video card are you on?
NVIDIA Quadro K5000, and NVIDIA Tesla K20c. I have updated to the latest service pack but I made a mistake when updating. I installed service pack 2 and 3, and then realized I forgot to install the 1st one. So I installed it and my desktop app says all updates are installed. Do you think that would cause the problem?
It's hard to say honestly. You may also want to check that your OpenCL is updated to the latest version.

At this time, interactive grooms only render in Arnold. That said, you can apply custom shaders to the hair by assigning them to the descriptionShape node.
Is there no longer a clump modifier in interactive grooming? For some reason it's not showing up in the "add modifier" tab.
Are you sure? It should be the second item in the list.
Wish I could display a screen capture. But, all that appears is curve to spline, displacement, guide, linear wire, noise, scale, sculpt and spline cache. Very puzzling.
I would try deleting your prefs folder and restarting Maya. help.autodesk.com/view/MAYAUL/2017/ENU/?guid=GUID-393D1ECA-9B6E-4625-B5B1-3F28E62AFB1C
I just downloaded the latest update and now it's there. Strange. I appreciate your help.
I can see the scalp of my model through the sides of the head. Its so thin almost bald. But there is clearly hair there. What have I done wrong?
Do you mean you can see the scalp geometry through the head geometry? If so, you can actually just hide the scalp (Ctrl + H) and the hair will remain visible.
that great , but when exporting my model out of maya to unity there no hair only the body ..... is there any process after your video to make the model and the hair stick together as a single unit?
You'll need to convert the hair primitives to polygon cards using this technique: help.autodesk.com/view/MAYAUL/2018/ENU/?guid=GUID-33279585-C22F-4E3E-880F-6EFD3D0BFA9A
thank you bro it works ... beautiful subscribe for you
why hair color change in unity (in maya is black in unity is gray)
You'll probably need to right-click the cards and apply a new shader to them. Unity may not support the default Arnold shaders.
what is the cards?
after I clicked interactive groom splines, it said "Mesh polySurface3Shape has non-manifold vertices", and wouldn't create hairs.
Thank you so much, I was almost ready to go visit Disney pixar to ask them
I cant find Create interactive Groom splines in the Generate window, Plz help !!
Which version of Maya are you running?
@@Autodesk_Maya 2018, I found it in the plug in manager window, by the way thanks for your reply :)
@@Neil_Creates where exactly did you find it? I also have maya 2017 but can't find create interactive groom splines
while i use the comb tool its not as smooth as yours but very choppy. why is that?
I made hair quickly using this new xgen, it was cool! but when I rendered it with vray (vray hair mtl) it doesn't show up...I really wanna know how to render it with VRay!
Unfortunately VRay isn't supported yet. You'll have to use Arnold or mental ray.
Maya Learning Channel ok I see, thank you for your quick reply!!! :)
But I found one of my friend is using this new function with vray in maya2017...but i can't use vray with it. so weird.
Hmm are you both running the same version of VRay? They may have done something on their side recently to make it compatible.
Do you have the latest drivers for your graphics card? What kind of machine are you on?
My system configuration:
CPU intel Core i3 2100 @ 3.10GHz
RAM 4GB single- channel DDR3 @ 665MHz
Motherboard Intel corporation DH61WW
Graphic card 1024MB ATI Radeon HD 4300/4500 Series
Storage of 1 TB
I hate to say it, but I don't think a machine that old (particularly the ATI card) is capable of rendering XGen primitives.
Sir ! I want the basic understanding of maya tools ..please help me.. that from where I can learn the maya from start and get its basic understanding?

Is there a reason my interactive groom hairs wouldn't render in the Arnold render view? I am using the physical hair shader.
Hmm, does it show up in the regular Render View if you set the renderer to Arnold?
No, it doesn't can't figure it out
I am having the same problem for some reason
Sounds like something is wrong with your Arnold install. Maybe try disabling and re-enabling the plugin from the Plug-in Manager or clearing your prefs.
I'll give it a shot
Hi i have a Big issue. When i export my model a error comes.the error is "a namespace is given name "Bind" is already exist.
How to solve this issues ?
Go to Windows > General > Namespace Editor and try removing the namespaces.
I remove namespace but when i export it comes again.and same error also.
i need an animation of a hair growing is one is a woman with no hair and hair starts to grow how could i do to match you and pay you to do this would you like or know someone who would?
Its only for maya 2017? Im not finding it in the 2016 ver
That's correct.
Hi! I can't change the color of the splines in my renderview. They stay brown. Please help!
Try changing them to an aiHairShader. This tutorial was made before Arnold was the default renderer.
every time I see their demo with these ugly human head model, I start to think, do autodesk knows now to make character, animation, or cg at all? if not then how do they know how to make tools for us? have they ever created any full animation or game production?
At first I thought that was a 2005-2010 tutorial or something, but there was no Xgen in 2010 right xD

It’s showing you the tools. An actual professional grooming video would be hours and hours long. What do you expect in 6 minutes?
How can i attach the scalp with the body in the animation
You can either skin it to the head joint(s) or just parent it.
Thank you very much.
I'm using maya 2017. Can you help me please?, How to export xgen hair to unity?.
You'll need to convert to polygons first since xgen primitives are not compatible with Unity. help.autodesk.com/view/MAYAUL/2017/ENU/?guid=GUID-33279585-C22F-4E3E-880F-6EFD3D0BFA9A
Maya Learning Channel Thank you so much
Nice tutorial
Mmm.. everytime when i select "collapse with meshes" maya crashes. Why?
can you please make a video on how to make mesh on the head to install hair please thank you
Did you ever figure this out? Im stuckk
@@Autodesk_Maya Thank you very much! i'll try it!
I love you man!
Sir if i want to move my xgen hair with skeleton what i do
If the geometry with the hair isn't deforming (like a head scalp), you can just parent constrain it to the head joint. If it is deforming (like an arm, or chin, or even a cartoony squash/stretch scalp), you'll need to skin the geometry to the skeleton.
@@Autodesk_Maya thank you sir love you so much
a pro tip would be to use more appealing examples in the future :P
Admittedly, I'm not the world's greatest groom artist (yes, that's actually an entire sub-profession now). Luickily, I did get contributions from one here = ) : ruclips.net/video/WQ53QpTDx9Q/видео.html
How can I create stray hairs with the interactive grooming?
Create the groom over the entire region, then use the inverse Density brush as shown at 5:20 to clear out an area. Set the Strength very low and then reapply density to make strays.
one way is to create a noise mod and then connect a procedural noise to its mask input so the noise only affects some of the (stray) hairs
Maya Learning Channel Thank you :D
please respond - how to add ai hair to these grooms?
By AI hair do you mean dynamics? You'll need to add an anim wire modifier.
Is it possible to do it on my old version of maya 2011
You will need to update to Maya 2017 to use this feature.
+Maya Learning Channel How to update??
www.autodesk.com/store/products/maya?mktvar002=knc_wwm_amer_us_nc_gglpf__maya2016___&term=1year&support=basic
i think Xgen Interactive Grooming doesn't support two things.. first the Stray effect second how to give specific areas a differnt color.. like for example a Tiger Hair Color.. when i assign texture into the physics hair shader it just affect the length of the hair not the area..
Actually you can give it different colors. Just assign the hairPhysicalShader's Root Color / Tip Color a texture.
It didn't work.. it just gives the thread of each her thr same texture. But as region
Are you sure it isn't your particular hairstyle that's making it look that way? Try setting up a new interactive groom on a simp;e sphere and then assign its root color a checker pattern or something. You should see the pattern very clearly spread across the primitives (I just tested this).
However, as you comb and shape the hair, the regions pattern will become distorted as the colors are applied to the primitives themselves, not the regions the primitives inhabit.
oh I'm sorry yes it worked with hairPhysicalShadee but I was trying to us aiHair in Arnold. that one doesn't do the same
When I want to grooming, an error.
XgmSetCombBrushTool;

Try adding the following line to your maya.env file, or as a windows environment variable:
MAYA_OPENCL_IGNORE_DRIVER_VERSION=1
i followed you step by step until "create interactive groom splines" the splines does not appear on the mesh >> help please
If it does, then we can work on troubleshooting your specific scene.
yes it works on the regular sphere, how to troubleshooting my scene ?
Okay. Now before you apply hair, go to the Modeling menu set (top left). Then right-click your geometry and select Face. Select all the faces, then go to Mesh Display > Conform. Also go to UV > Automatic. Now try applying hair again.
Can we have this plugin in max PLEASE !!!!!!!!
As much as I love blender working with hair in blender is an absolute nightmare. I assume it's much easier in Maya?
Using this method, yes!
Where should we go for this file??
Oops, it appears I forgot to upload this file. But you can just go into Maya's Content Browser (Windows > General Editors > Content Browser) to get a very similar bust.
Thank you dude
If Maya doesn't treat her hair better she's going lose it
Hmmmm yes, yes indeed
how I can I Arnold render xgen hair?
It should render with the default hairPhysicalShader. Did you remember to add a light?
yes. I did this morning and it works like a charm.
and how to export it as a demo?
Sorry I'm not sure what you mean. You mean as a render or a video?
For the former, you can render it out using Arnold. Just make sure to add a light.
For the latter, you can go to Windows > Playblast. You might want to animate the camera circling around the head first though.
@@Autodesk_Maya I just meant can it be fbx exported?
@@magedatef7901 You'd need to convert them to polygon strips to make them compatible with FBX: help.autodesk.com/view/MAYAUL/2019/ENU/?guid=GUID-2CFBC23D-358F-4EDF-B51D-94796DFC2201
