  • This is the first video of a short series in which I build a homemade table saw. This time, I build a fence that can be easily removed from the table using a magnet.

    Such a simple solution! You win the k.i.s.s award! Lots of fences are as good. But they tend to have many more pieces involved in their build. More pieces=more room for error. I need a new fence and I think your design just won out! Thanks! The old one I made was a pain to remove!

    I love that you only grip the front skirt of the table. I've always hated how cheap fences can be locked crooked because they grip the entire depth of the table. This is a great solution as long and there's no flex on your fence or tee. I wish they'd put these on small job site saws. ☮️❤️🌈

  • @anthonypaynter828

    That is such a good idea, making it wide enough that it doesn't move about. The fence that came with my bandsaw does just that so is virtually useless. But your idea of a wide fence stops most of the movement. I must see how you made the vertical drill press now! Thanks very much. Only one problem, the "On hold while we wait for an operator" music drives me mad!! Small problem really which is more to do with me I expect.

    Great idea for the clamp. I'm in the process of making my fence and considering this design. Could I ask how it has been? Does the clamp hold the fence really tight and solid all the way down? Or can it move or deflect? The clamp that came with my saw can slide if I press against it too hard and also deflects so I'm trying to improve it

    Hi. I've seen a number of table saw fence DYI videos but I always get confused by the fact that most-designs only restrain the fence on one of the ends. I feel that instead of T-shaped, the fences should be H shaped. I mean with a T at each end. With only one T, isn't there some play at the other end of the fence which could hurt the precision of the cut?

    • @TSPhotoAtlanta
      @TSPhotoAtlanta 2 года назад

      The concept is to make the t-end strong enough, which he does, giving it a strong rail and bearing surface, then rely on the "beam strength" or its resistance to deflection (esp. due to the box-section) - working all together to make the fence-object immovable. That sums up how t-square fences work in concept. If you try to clamp to a rear or second rail there is ususlly some deflection made making settings difficult; moreso than with the single, front rail clamping scheme.

    Seems like a wasted opportunity.If you are going to mount a circular saw underneath. Why not make a drop in insert big enough to mount the saw.? Then make several inserts the same size,so you can just pull one out and drop in the saber or hand router etc. Mounted to another inset of the same size And blank inserts for if you don't want anything or for a future tool . Just lift an insert plate switch tools with another insert and plug it in under neath . Still I give you a thumbs up for effort and because I like you.
