I feel like a shorin-ryu stylist should be added to the mix. You've got two Japanese styles that come from the shuri-te lineage, compare them to an Okinawan style that also comes from shur-te.

So i train in both shotokan and shitoryu. I notice how it seems (even in my own dojo lineage from Fumio Demura) that the movements and bunkai are vastly different in a few key moves. I always enjoy input from others' training and input. I love these videos from you two gentlemen. Keep up the great collaborations!

it shows a lot of kata movements that appear in combat sports that the common person isn't aware of.

Some information from my Shotokan Master seems to lean toward Shito Ryu. The horse stance with the elbow and punch striking, he told us to always look back. He also disclosed that the elbow hit first and when the opponent bent forward the punch would hit immediately. I also discovered that this master also studied Shito Ryu so perhaps that is where he got this information.

In my Shotokan SKIF dojo we would do a Mikazuki geri instead of just lifting our knees.

0:20 I (neither a shotokan or shito-ryu stylist) was also taught that the ending movements were supposed to be an elbow to the body and an over the shoulder punch like in shotokan. (However, I was taught to turn my head like the shito-ryu stylist.) My issue with that is you have to have pretty flexible shoulders. If you lack mobility there either due to shoulder issues or you're a big ass bodybuilder who might be too big that you can't reach that far back that might not be the most plausible application. But if you don't have any issues it could work. Tatsuya Naka demonstrates this application and seems to be able to make it work for him at least. I prefer Iain Abernethy's approach that turns are really throws.

It's the same in Hayashi Shito-ryu (or in International Shito-ryu) with the elbow hitting arm's fist higher than the normal hikite.

In okinawan Shorin Ryuha the last techniques of the kata are throws, Seoi Nage is the name for the throws in Judo. A punch over your shoulder behind your own ears makes no sense at all as such a technique would be way too weak.

    Great video.
This is actually my next graduation required kata, for 6th Kyu. Probably next January, if everything works out as expected.
I noticed some minor differences to Yusuke's kata, which are probably related to the Shotokan school (? if we can put it that way) interpretation. My dojo is associated with SKIF.
Out of curiosity, do you have any association with JKA or something like that?
