Sensei, can you make a tiny introduction on the roots of each style? I believe that'd help us understand the differences better. For instance: Shito Ryu looks more attack focused, while Shotokan is always very subtle (yet very strong too). Also, if you uploaded the uncommented version before the analysis that'd be cool. Gakuji-san has uploaded his Heian Nidan video, you could link it here too
Shito-ryu look very different because that style kept their Okinawan root much more then Shotokan. Shito-ryu kept the order and name of Pinan forms from the Okinawan karate. Pinan is Heian in Japanese karate.
4:54 The Koreans added kicks to that portion of the kata. Three inside crescent kicks to be specific. I would say it was Won Kuk Lee who was a fourth degree black belt directly under Gichin Funakoshi who added them after he helped introduce shotokan to Korea. Kyokushin also has kicks there, but they do front kicks though. One has to wonder if Mas Oyama added the kicks on his own or was inspired by the Korean versions.
@@KarateDojowaKu Oddly enough, this is the same in France where i learnt Karate in what is supposed to be the shoto-kan style, we normaly do 3 Mikazuki geris when moving lol
Really cool and interesting comparisons of the Heian/Pinan Sandan Kata. In Shukokai our Pinan Sandan Kata differs slightly to both Shotokan and Shito Ryu, very interesting. Thanks again for a great video.
You know something, I am a Nak Muay, but in ancient times I used to practise Karate. To this day I still have and use Japanese style kicks, and I also have and use what you might saw were 'kata' some of which is part of my Wai Kru. Why dont western people understand kiai even though western sports such as boxing, tennis and shotput all use it?
