I'm glad y'all paid homage to Langston Hughes. It was well done; however, I wish the boy had been a bit younger (b/c that's how he was portrayed originally) and the setting was more old fashioned for the story was made in 1958, but that's my opinion. Nevertheless, I DO like how well the actors presented their role and helped create this story. Thank you for all who participated.

I love that you guys adapted this, and I like the modern take on it, too, but I think people in the comments section miss the whole point because the context is missing. Someone even talked badly about the way the original characters in the story "talked". 🙄They could only relate and cry because they saw that one of the characters were White. If they'd all been cast by Black people, as the author's experience was, I wonder if half of these people would even cry or even understand the undertones. The boy didn't just steal because he wanted nice shoes. He also stole because in his time period (the 1920s) Black people were largely impoverished, not just because their family members were former slaves but because Black people were still barred from high-paying jobs and education. Little Black boys saw White people around them that could afford things they could never dream of, creating a longing for better. This is the start of where crime in the Black community began and why boys began forming gangs and turning to a life of crime. People refused to hire them so they can make an honest living, so they felt it only fair to survive any way they could. To add, the boy didn't own one nice pair of shoes. The deeper context of this story is missed when people forget who the author is and what experience he was telling from. For a very period and time-accurate portrayal, The Phoenix Learning Group, Inc has a version, too. It's old, but it's GOLD.
