    Thank you, Julie & Eric, for the updates and predilections. Also Happy New Year! My wife enjoyed meeting you at the parking lot at Lowe’s. She came home and was excited to tell me that she met y’all.
    Limiting access by raising prices and forced to reduce the level of service due to cost can be tricky to navigate well. Look at Disney. The price of a Disney vacation has gone steadily up and the quality of their services have declined. Fewer families are able to go. Their stock prices have plummeted over the past 3 years. (Yes, I know there are other factors involved,) I hope the government and businesses on the Big Island can find a better balance to maintain the vitality of the island while protecting and preserving its beautiful environment and rich history. With Aloha.

    Can you please speak about Mountain View property there as it seems to have a lot of fruit trees already growing…

    • @TJ-zn4et
      @TJ-zn4et Год назад +1

      Mountain View is great for growing food. Lots of sun and lots of rain. I really do love the land there ,however, much of Mountain View property is in Eden Roc. I do not advise buying there. The back part of the subdivision is full of meth users so it can be creepy and they take what they want. Often people have pit bulls that get lose and gang up on your pet. I Don't know of any meth labs there. There are some in Fern Forest also considered Mountain View. Forget getting a police officer out there because the closest police station is in Keaau and it's small so they may be coming from Hilo. The other side of the highway is nicer, however the prison sits in the back. Mauna Loa has had a flow come towards the prison so it can go that way. No real worries about lava in the rest of Mountain View. Coming from a long term resident who has first hand experience I wouldn't buy there. We had to throw out everything we owned because of a meth lab. The police department refers you to the fire department who refers you back to the police department. Noone does any thing. If you find inexpensive land in Hawaii, there is a good reason why it is cheap.

    The business owners were aghast as the number of people here for the Ironman? I highly doubt that considering that half the businesses downtown are GONE and most of the rest are struggling. Do you have any survey data to back up your assertion that businesses don’t like having customers?

    • @waimeagrl5142
      @waimeagrl5142 Год назад +1

      The Ironman brings rude, obnoxious, cheap and entitled people here. They think they own the roads, they’re horrible to restaurant staff, and, frankly, I wish they’d never come back. Closing down businesses for a day or two because someone wants to swim, run and ride their dumb bikes is absurd. Go somewhere else!

    • @fernowtoo
      @fernowtoo Год назад +2

      We have been visiting the island several times a year for over 10 yrs and always attempt to avoid Ironman. The locals have always told us they don't like it. Lots of people who DON'T spend much money but take up the rental cars and hotels and crowd the streets making it hard to get around. They are there to compete so the don't drink much or eat big meals. They don't pay for tours, go golfing or buy souvenirs. They don't rent bikes or snorkel gear. And they displace the tourists who DO spend money on all that stuff. Anyway, just what I heard.

      According to my informal, unscientific survey, local business owners don’t like Ironman because the participants and visitors DO NOT buy local. They bring a bunch of vendors from off island and don’t frequent local businesses.

    I think they should also curtail your ability to sell homes...Not so much fun suddenly, is it? Does the drive to "preserve" by the Native Hawaiian community also include locals dumping their trash down the gulch? Or having properties covered in rusty cars and garbage? Nothing wrong with fostering high end over mass tourism, but this is an attack on small business and property rights. There is a fine line between managing and authoritarian rule by technocrats and ideologues.

    I understand this is a “Kona side” video. But also titled “ what to expect on the big island” let’s not forget big island is not just KONA. Your viewers like to see Waimea, Naaalehu, Pahoa, Keeau, HILO, Waikaloa, hawi (hence big island….not just Kona). I mean I get you live in captain cook and LOVE Kona, but let’s spread out the content. Let’s start branching out and really exposing the big island for your viewers, and really showing what this beautiful island has to offer. Start traveling more frequently! You’ve done this in previous videos but I feel like this needs to be more of a regular occurrence. Not just a weekly magic sands video. I mean I love your channel. I am just putting in my two cents on what might expand your content. I know you have the knowledge esp being a RE broker. Myself being a RE broker I know this is a challenge. Overall you guys are doing such a great job!

      Trust me, just because they’re Realtors, does not mean they know everything about the island. A large majority lack the history (real history, not the kind you find in tourist booklets) of Hawai’i, nor do they care. They can barely pronounce Hawaiian words properly.

      You do realize the rising costs are affecting everyone, especially the residents in a very negative and unfortunate way, right? I understand when on vacation it feels nice to relax and not having to worry about crowds, but the Kama'āina have to LIVE with this every day because of selfishness and greed. Food for thought. Soon enough there won't be a Hawai'i for those to enjoy if no one can afford to go>tourism dies>and their economy is worse than it's ever been.

Instead close the wallet and do things that don’t cost you money like hiking, Watching the sunrise and the sunset, Get out and practice that guitar/ Ukulele that has been sitting in your closet and communicating with your loved ones nurturing a better relationship and life
