Rick K. - There's ANOTHER YT'er that's referenced on the Citation... ACE'S ADVENTURES (his opening animation has a 3-door Citation hatchback running in front of dead or semi-dead store fronts).
"Let's taketaketaketaketaketake a kkkkkkkkleakkkkkkkkleakkkkkkkkkkleakkkkkkleakkkkkkkkleakkkkkkkkleakkkkkkkleak...." Holy crap! That's a HARD sell. Just...WOW! If that doesn't make you want a Jeep, I don't know what will.I think I'm going to go to my local car dealership and buy ALL the Jeeps! I don't care if I don't have any money to speak of, I'll sell all my material possessions and vital organs! Nothing is going to talk me down from buying a high quality Jeep produced vehicle in the next few minutes. Wait... what? "Churn in the onion leak?" YOU LOST A SALE, PAL!!!
Ben, even if it was SO MUDDLED by the second audio feed (seemed both language versions interfered with each other) TE DOY LAS GRACIAS for putting the Caprice./ Impala clip in Spanish. I was probably one of the "Spanish-speaking members of the audience" you were referring to... Also it was VERY RARE for the era that there would be a Spanish-spoken version made "in The States" (not Mexico, as the narrator wasn't over-accented and in proper US usage of the Spanish language) of this particular 'video" for Spanish-speaking salespeople at Chevy dealers. (giving love back to Ben from Puerto Rico...)
Love it! It's always so much fun getting to see these things we're not supposed to see. It seems appropriate somehow that the Jeep/Eagle disk kept flashing that "Problem Diagnosis" slide over and over. As for the Chevy Citation, I remember cars like that from the late '70s. That was about the time I was learning how to drive. Thankfully, my father had a somewhat bigger, better car for me to learn on. I can only imagine how much fun that "cutting off A/C under load" would have been during a Florida summer. In some ways, things have definitely gotten better over time. Oh, and I also liked how they bragged about fitting five people in, but they apparently could only do it by taking off two of the doors.
One of Bruce Campbell's first gigs was an Industrial for Chrysler, a faux boxing match. Keep an eye out for that, I've never seen it, only heard it described.
I bet that screech at the beginning of Tom Sawyer's dead side is some kind of home computer program. Doesn't sound like Speccy though, maybe TRS-80 or some custom hardware, perhaps?
@@und4287 Possibly. I imagine the player would need a bit of code to implement a quiz with those slides that followed. TIL there was a standalone laserdisc player that could execute code :^)
Interesting video as usual. The "spanish Dracula" at the end is cuban-american broadcaster John Gres. His voice was used in many commercials and radio idents all over Latin America. He died in 2018.
Regarding the Pioneer service remote, wouldn't those IR codes be in the database for Harmony remotes? I have an ancient "industrial" laserdisc player that I've used to play Dragon's Lair and Space Ace from real laserdiscs, and the Harmony was able to control it just fine. I know ten years ago there was a scare with early Harmony remotes bricking when trying to download Pioneer service codes, but I'm sure that was specific to first generation of the remotes.
I have no idea why, but I have always wanted to find a Citation. The ACDelco Connect channel has a short video clip from a Citation introduction video, presumably one that was distributed on LaserDisc. .......Oh, no, the Citation jingle is stuck in my head again! Also, the trucks laserdisc has turned up before, however the only circulating copy eventually skips. Hopefully your copy plays all the way through.
That Jeep laserdisc identified itself as an S-CDV at the one point. Normally, Laservision titles are supposed to identify as S-LD. I think that might be one of the issues.
Windows OS It looks like the copyright got it wrong, but it looks a lot like the Guild Films/Sunset TV titles for the 1930-43 “Looney Tunes” on TV back in the 1950’s.
Using the C character would have cost extra. General Motors didn't have that kind of money back then, as evident by the shitty cars they were producing.
Michelle D - I was trying to state that was a MISTAKE that the first X was supposed to be a C, but being "The Oddity Archive" the EXTRA-COST OPTION thingie works here... Car marketers, you gotta love 'em....
The Citation was the economy car the US market needed-about five years too late. We’d just lived thru the gas crisis. People were buying smaller foreign cars not because they were better, but cheaper to drive. Car development back in the day took 5-7 years from green light to final manufacturing. The gas crunch caught the big three with their pants down. They couldn’t react quickly enough, hence the Citation, the Chrysler K-cars and Ford’s Fiesta. When Chevy put a better 6 cylinder engine in the Citation, but DIDN’T improve the build quality, it was too little, too late. If you post the Chevy truck video, please run the slide show at the correct speed. I love those dealer videos having worked at a VW/Porsche/Audi dealership.
>gas crisis That was when the Dollar transitioned from gold to petroleum. I bet most people in the petrol industry were trying to stockpile as much as possible in an attempt to make out like bandits.
United Communications unltd. The US wasn’t on the gold standard back then and isn’t now. I guess there were companies hoarding diesel fuel for their commercial fleets, but the average Joe didn’t have the means. I lived through it and I can tell you those photos and films of cars lined up down the road, every other day gas rationing, and signs at gas stations saying “NO GAS” were real. Gas is a commodity and bought and sold as such.
United Communications unltd. - you're talking about the FIRST oil crisis in '73, this was about the one in '79-80. That was how LATE US automakers were to the economy party....
I owned a Citation back in 1983. I was a terrible car, but I did learn a lot about fixing cars owning it.
Wait you where a car ?
Ben would be the uncle i'd like to listens for hours by the fireside. these kind of stories i will never get bored of.
Nice LGR reference there too

Florida is flat. Drive through the Mojave desert or in mid-southern Utah with that happening and get back to me.
"Nobody tell LGR. He might get ideas." 🤣

Yes that's like when Noisepuppet does adds or PSA's. I love those.
I can't wait until you post those dead sides in their entirety... I love old promo materials.

The Chevy Citation: the car you deserve to receive a citation for making such a bad decision.
i love how it keeps going back and forth over problem diagnosis
I was always a big fan of naming a model of car after a something you get if you're driving a car recklessly or irresponsibly.
I remember VWestlife uploading a video of a GM truck Laserdisc that rotted, making it look like a Max Headroom video or a RUclips poop
I want to see that now.

It does indeed play straight through.
That 1980 Citation just screams "Buy a Japanese car instead".
9:40 The intro to this YTP needs no changes, it's done.
Interesting video
Sounds like your laser disk player is using a dial up modem.
12:35 _Doors Not Included._
It said some equipment was available at extra cost. Knowing GM, that probably included the doors.
Memorandom - at least that girl was a LOOKER....
the jeep eagle part must of been related to Max Headroom lol

Any idea when that Problem diagnosis disc comes from?
It’s not listed, but probably 1986 or 1987. I’d guess the latter.
Who dressed all these people on the Citation video?!!!
Chevy Citaaaaaaaaaaaaaaation! That jingle alone was worth the effort, I say.
They forgot. "It works."
Would this be considered Easter eggs of its time?
11:32 Oh man - this guy, lol! But she can hide behind very low expectations.
13:11-13:20 Hey what? Okay I guess answering those questions wasn't necassary
Well now I’m on Craigslist looking for an 80’ Citation
Mike McFly - most Citations were in the junker within 5 years of being built ('85 for an '80 model).
Repro or not, I love “special purpose gadgets”:
As a french, for me these cars are Real American cars, i mean you only have to look at them, you know immediately they are from USA.
Hey, I love you guys, but your country is the epitome of weird cars, though.
11:42 She was cute. She’s probably about 65 years old now...😳
75 maybe?

Chevrolet is missing a trick not releasing an updated version in the age of Wikipedia.
With all the negative association between Chevrolet and that nameplate, I think it might be for the best. Those were not good cars.
