i drove 3 hours through the snow to see them at the anthrax club in ct for what i think was the first show there after this 7 inch came out, at most 30 people in room, it was amazing and will never forget it,
@Ryan Paul You don't know anything about GB then. This is the furthest thing from so called tough guy hardcore. This is old school positive straight edge. What you're talking about is the vast majority of the garbage parading itself around these days calling itself hardcore.
@@charlestruby5094 Wait, what!!!! Do you mean The Rink in Merrillville Indiana? I used to skate and go to local shows, don't remember a skate rink in Dyer. I'm from Da Region and saw many shows at The Rink in Merrillville. In fact I played there a few times in a thrash band I was in. Punk was NOT big in NW Indiana in the 80s. I got turned on to it in like 88 or 89 when this dude from Chicago gave me a punk mix tape. THAT MIX TAPE CHANGED MY LIFE FOREVER. It had Gorilla Biscuits, Swiz, Descendents, 7 Seconds, Naked Raygun, Mucky Pup, Black Flag, Fugazi, Minor Threat, DRI, Dead Kennedy's, Sick Of It All, Social Distortion, Husker Du, and Circle Jerks. All bands I still listen to over 30 years later. I wonder what other non local bands played The Rink. It was always a fun night seeing shows there. Still have the paper stickers of this 7" cover that were tossed into the pit on their first tour. They look a little faded but not bad for being almost 30 years old. Great fuckin show.
as a youth i associated GB with the crews of hardcore kids in the scene whom I perceived as enemies..didnt really get into em until my late 20s. But when i finally came around, found the messages of peace and positivity in this music to be undeniable. Down 100%.
@@misanthrope161 In punk, and especially hardcore, the bass always has more of a role in the song. For example, this album, Green Day's early stuff (notably Longview, Panic Song, Welcome to Paradise, etc.), The Freeze, Gang Green, and Dead Kennedys.
bought the vinyl during the 90's. Let's be honest, GB was a shitty band... And Straight Edge is fucking embarrassing for anyone true to Punk or hardcore...
well there's a lot of good bands, for example : Jhonny and the rapists, sto, puff on', Raool... These were great bands hard to find on the internet but they were original and great.
Im not straight edge but It kinda did save my life. And overseas GB are considered legit. Maybe it is a matter of being a part of that scene, so you have a better angle on the things. All in all I love hardocre straight edge or not. Salute to all who love this honest music.
Man, I totally forgot about this band. I used to listen to them a lot back around '91, '92. I'm surprised I still know all the songs like it was yesterday.
I always thought their name was interesting. a straight edge band called gorilla biscuits which is apparently hippie slang for pot brownies. another one like that is the Mentors like who's mentor would they be? but it works
Actually they were clandestine pressed quaalude pills(wafers) that were being sold around the lower east side of Manhattan. They were big. Hence the name "Gorilla Biscuits".
Gorilla Biscuits is what they called these yellow qualudes in their neighborhood of NY...at least that what i heard Civ say in an interview. But yeah...hilarious for a sXe band!
Man way too many... when I was young ect ect! Young people are overdosing at a record rate and all you can post about is the music! If the essence of straight edge still lives in your old ass go help some of these kids now!
+Robert Brewster Hmmm not really. It's more an evolution of original punk, lyrically. More about solutions to problems as opposed to the problems themselves. Also HEAVY AS HELL
I wouldn't say so. When people say hardcore punk I think of bands like Fear, Black Flag, Circle Jerks, etc., etc.. And those bands are certainly not straight edge.
I see what you're saying. Yeah a lot of straight edge bands like Minor Threat and Bad Brains very heavily influenced modern hardcore and they were straight edge. But you can't deny that those other bands are hardcore (not saying that you are implying that) and they certainly aren't straight edge. I suppose David Boyd put it best.
