"with Liszt at the piano and Berlioz conducting" we can only dream
Wish they had recording technology back then...
The clarity and thoughtfulness are to a level, as if they have a cheat code for this whole 'music' thing💯
Slow, thoughtful performances are Ozawa's specialty. It turned out very well.
The whole album (with Sonata in B Minor, Totentanz, Nuages gris, Funerailles) is a really good Liszt recording.
RIP Maestro Ozawa ❤. Great performance!
The second concerto is the superior one i.m.o on all levels, harmonically interesting, much more dialogue with the orchestra and so on. The Zimmermann performance is piano-wrecking in some instances. Thanks for sharing.

Oh yeah I’m liking this side of Liszt. Great depth to his concertos, easily rivalling Beethoven.
Thanks for this. I needed it more than I could possibly liszt.
such a good album
