- There have been drum circles in Congo Square for centuries, a deeply meaningful tradition that carries on to this day. On June 5, 2016, today's Congo Square drum circle regulars were joined by a group of Nigerians who were celebrating the ordination of the first Nigerian priest in New Orleans, as well as tourists from South Africa and other places, and a group from Breakout, a local support group for LGBTQ youth. We happened to catch a few minutes of the celebration and are sharing it here with you.
Big up to all the BaKongos in the USA but especially those in Louisiana. You come from a kingdom with rich history. Of all the bantu ethnic groups around the African continent, many trace their origins specifically to Kongo peoples. Bakongos we are strong, resilient, intelligent and arrogant 😂😂you can't be mukongo if you're not arrogant😂😂We are very proud people regardless of our struggles or success.
Most Bakongos went to South American countries such as Brazil, Colombia, Guyana etc and even Haiti and Dominican Republic in the Caribbeans. However, those who made it to America have special place in my heart because the USA is extremely far from where you are originally from. If you're from Louisiana major respect to you guys💯

Are they still having the drum circles? I'm sure they are stopped for the Wuhan virus, but are there plans to bring them back. Can anyone with a drum play?
Contact the Congo Square Preservation Society
You mean the Trump Virus surely?
It blows my mind that you could be interested in cultural engagement like Congo Square, and then call Covid the "Wuhan virus"...
