This is by far the most informative and comprehensive guide to the Tesla solar app I've found. Thank you so much Zach! I would love to know how a vehicle will be integrated into the app once bidirectional charging is more available.
Appreciate that, my friend! I have a "Charge on Solar" walk-thru coming out soon. Once bidirectional charging is rolled out to more than just the Cybertruck, I will definitely make something on that ASAP.
I've got a 8.1kw system with 1PW3 getting ready to get installed soon, super excited. thanks for the thorough walk through! This summer has been tough for high energy bills, this should offset us pretty well, and i always have room to add more solar.
we just signed a contract to get two PW2s installed to my solar system with Enphase Micro-Inverters. Can't wait. I'll still use my Enphase app to monitor my PV down to the panel/inverter level.
@@collinscollins7205 on the Tesla app, go to your Home, click Settings, go to Vehicle Charging, scroll down and make sure the vehicle is paired with the Powerwall. Does that work?
I'd give it 24-48 hours and if still nothing, reach out to Tesla support or your installer to see why settings are missing on your app. You should have everything shown in this video.
I don't have solar and got the Wall as I live in an area w/ frequent power disruptions. The wall also conserves energy by cycling on during the expensive time of the day. How should I set Backup Reserve? Thanks.
I’d say it depends on how much energy you use during on-peak, how long your on-peak hours are, and how long the outages usually are. I’d set it at ~30%+ in your case, since you cannot recharge it with solar in the event of a grid outage. But you can also recharge it immediately from the grid once you hit off-peak so there shouldn’t be a lot of time where it’s low.
Great info about the app! I got a 15KW system installed and 2 PW3, when I look at the charge state of the batteries it only shows 60% and won’t charge beyond that even though I’m producing more than enough to keep charging the batteries. Do you know why it would stop at 60%? Also when I try to go off grid with the app, it tells me the state of charge is too high on the power walls and to use them to drop below 90%. Couldn’t find anything on websites about this.
Very interesting about the 60% cap you're running into. I've never heard of that. I'm guessing it's a measurement error of some kind with the data reporting to the app. You can email me some screenshots/screen recordings of what you see if you would like. Zach.Sweety@iconpower.com The state of charge being too high "error" is normal. The "go off grid" function will not work if you have 90+% and incoming solar generation. Guessing it's for safety/quality reasons.
Any insight on how all this will look for a Tesla powerwall installation with existing solar at the house? Tesla said that generation of the solar won’t be visible in the app because it’s 3rd party.
Hmm, that hasn’t been my experience in the past. To confirm, I just looked at a retrofit Powerwall 3 install with Enphase micros in our monitoring portal and the app’s energy flow looks identical to a standard installation. You can see the solar generation. I’d confirm with your Tesla rep that there isn’t a misunderstanding.
It's extremely accurate. If it's much different from the electric company, I would talk specifics with your installer to see what's up. It could be a measurement error with the CTs on the system.
Nope - you should see it even with just a Tesla inverter. You just need some hardware installed. Reach out to your installer and say "I need consumption CTs installed so I can see my home's energy consumption". They should include it for free.
@@davidspilker310 yes they will. You go to Manage Access, then Add Member and then send them an invitation to add your home to their Tesla app. You can also remove them at any time and do not need to share your login credentials.
@@Jonnyblazehere it’s paired to the email that your installer registered the Powerwall to. Make sure you create a Tesla account with that exact email. If still no luck, check with your installer since they are the one who registered your system with Tesla.
Hmm, I’m not sure I have the right answer without seeing the error you’re facing. I’d contact your installer or Tesla to see if they can directly assist. It might be a general software issue, or it could be an actual system error.
@@ZachSolar I downloaded the Tesla app onto a different "ipad" we had at the house and it communicated right away. I did see that Tesla updated the software on August 1, 2024. That might have been the glitch that crashed our original Tesla app.

On my plan I get free energy between 11am and 2pm. That is very helpful during the winter.

Since the PW3 uses LFP chem you can consistently charge to 100% and discharge to 0% with no problems.
